Interesting read compiled on WebBikeWorld about BMW's recent financials and the Jap market overall.

Make no doubt about it the moto industry is in a steep decline in sales and production. Interesting projection about the recovery up thru 2013. Would like to read that report

So . . . . close your eyes and imagine you are an executive in the motorcycle industry . . . . you're wanting to cut any dead weight from your orgnaization that you can . . . . .

So you go directly to the companies audited statements . . consolidate sales of the various units . . .

. . . . now . . . which one looks like it makes god business sense to sell?

Or . . . to quote Kermit the Frog . . . which of these things is not like the others?

I assume the top chart is gross revenue. One thing that is probably unknown is margin %. If, as some rumors say, Buells were sold at a loss, the revenue could be up along with # of units, but margin down. I wonder if the Buell chart data includes intercompany charges for spares distribution, marketing, etc. Certainly I assume from your knowledge of the company that the chart means what it shows and none of my remarks dilutes what we see. Just curious because numbers can mean many things unless you are in on the assumptions, etc.

I find that interesting about BMW. A buddy is a salesman at our local BMW dealer and he is selling theirs at a pretty good rate (a lot because he is a really good salesman!). I can't back it up with figures but I had stopped by to talk to him a couple weeks ago and their floor was quite full, last week it was noticeably open.
I hate to stop in and see him because he just about has me walking out the door with a new bike every time. I still feel that Buell wouldn't have been in the predicament they are if their sales people would have put some effort into selling them (not all of you, I have met many good ones too).

The numbers are REVENUES and taken directly from public filings.

Be mindful that margins do not enter in. If Buell sold the bike for $10,000 and it cost them $20,000 to build it . . . their REVENUE is still $10,000.

This, assuming AICPA and GAAP principles were followed (and I am certain they were) are SALES REVENUES.

Again . . .straight off the public filings. It's the trend, not the nominal number I find interesting.

It certainly, at least to me, doesn't build a strong case to crush Buell.

Buell, according to Harley lost money in 2006 and is losing even more this year. I understand that they made a little in 2007.

Even saying that increasing revenue while everyone else is dropping is very good.

I think Buell is viable as a stand alone and with proper dealer support could sell a lot of bikes once the economy recovers.

I got my XBS in 2007, so I must have put them over the top!

I meant 2008 not 2006
