One thing to note about Clinton's and BO's bowing... location. For Clinton, the Emperor was on our turf, BO is on theirs. Another nuance of the protocol machine. BTW, I'm not defending either one. Just saying thats the way it is. And I think the NY Times has about the same informational value as an elementry school newsletter. |

Mike that was too funny, kept me laughing for awhile but then its really beyond words what American politics has become. This country needs some real people and they are nothing like Oboma and his greedy supporters. |

Someone sent me this a few days ago.
quote:Michelle Winter From Facebook If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes? If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVDs, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky? If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia , would you have approved? If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip? If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment? If George W. Bush had mis-spelled the word "advice" would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is? If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite? If George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11? If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans , would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence? If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved? If George W Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved? If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved? So, tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 5 months -- so you'll have three years and seven months to come up with an answer. How about campaigning in all 57 states?

I really hate to write this, but... Have you ever noticed that regardless of whom is elected, from whatever party, espousing any platform, there is still a large number of people who believe: 1) The election was a HUGE mistake 1a) The election was a fraud 2) The predecessor was better 3) We are doomed 4) The poster is infinitely more qualified than the office holder. Personally, I believe that once a politician has risen above, let's say, a county supervisor, they are a packaged deal that belongs to anyone but the voters. And just to further fan your fire... I believe politics today less fraudulent, more honest than almost any time in our country's history. But that's relatively speaking, because I also believe politics in general attracts individuals whose moral ground registers regularly on the Richter scale. But hey, don't let me interrupt here. |

"2) The predecessor was better " I haven't read that, not even here. I bet though, that there are those here combing the internet for tidbits that can link Obama to the closure of Buell. |

Its a shame cap and trade hasnt got off the ground yet. This could have turned the economy around and saved Buell. Its because of this that unemployment has reached 10%+ instead of the projected 8%. We need to start being punished for using energy. Its the only thing that makes sense. We need to start penalizing more companies for growth and prosperity. Yea, this president is waaaaaay smarter than Bush. He's a man-caused disaster. |

>>>I think it a law somewhere that the sitting prez is responsible for everything that is going wrong. No . . . no .. there is this great "inherited from a previous administration line" these guys have been using. It's priceless. I think, historically (they are not the first to employ it) it's had a shelf life of about 3-6 months . . . . this time it's looking like it will outlast the half-life of Tritium. If you or I tried it . . . . it, in the civilian world, would be called "blaming". In government service I think it's called "attribution". Amazing shit . . . . neither you or I would hire one of these idiots. Hey . . . . you don't need a good terrorist as a tourist attraction in Scott's Valley do you? . . . . we've got one we'd be happy to send. |

It boils down to a fact of lost perspective and a lack of due diligence. SEC supervision of risky trading practices Ponsi schemes, Insider trading, rampant inflation, the repeal of Glass-Steagall act, a couple of ill conceived wars and enviro 'green' monkeying agenda that is pervasive on every level of business And you end up here, no matter which idiot is in office. |

Funny you should mention terrorist and Scotts Valley... SV is a conservative (by CA standards) burg of 10K that hangs on to Santa Cruz's skirt. Speeding, graffiti now and then, and teen drinking mostly fill the police ledger. All in all, boring as hell (btw, I live in SC not SV). Anywho... the local constabulary found a used S.W.A.T.-mobile that they just had to have. They threw a spiffy black paint job on it, added very large S.W.A.T. logos, and put it on show at an art fair there last summer. ...and nearly died of embarrassment. Seems the locals weren't to happy with the idea, and peppered the police with, "Why?," "How much?" and numerous other questions all starting with "Why..." The vehicle hasn't been seen since. |

What do you expect Obama to do, slap his Japanese host on the ass? I'm no fan of Obama, but really man. The objection to his bowing in an eastern culture is stupid. Bigger things to get upset about with this guy. |

I was rethinking this today. I have to admit that I never thought I would see the day when a black man could be representing the US in a visit to a country that is still known for it's own racial bigotry, bow down in front of the leader who is a member of the majority race of that country, and liberals would somehow see this as a good thing. Suddenly I have new found hope that racial issues are finally behind us in the US.

The objection to his bowing in an eastern culture is stupid. Culture where bow takes place is not issue, ( Thanks Sifo, that's funny! ) it's about who is King. If you are a baron, or a commoner, you bow to your ruler. We are not supposed to have one. We have servants of the people who volunteer to try & win our approval to serve us. We fought a war over it too, before my time I admit. The President of the United States does not bow to dictators, kings or emperors. He shakes their hands. Looks them in the eyes, and is their equal, if not their better. For more than 200 years. Until Bill Clinton made a sorta-bow at the Emperor of japan. The NY Times gave Clinton heck over that. BHO gets a pass, and he's already bowed to the King of Arabia. It a not subtle thing. He has no right to bow for you. WE do not bow to Kings or Potentates. (added this part after some thought ) The real reason the bow-ing incidents are important have far more to do with how foreign leaders perceive our leaders than a bunch of cranky Americans disliking Obama's apparent dislike of this country. ( you may not agree Obama dislikes America. He certainly has issues with the Constitution, and the notion that we are an exceptional nation ) It looks to others that a leader who goes around apologizing for past administration's actions, is weak and foolish. No one but Obama bowed to the Emperor. His people look like idiots. The protocol people are supposed to know better than to give the U.K. prime minister DVD's with the wrong country code. Especially when the gift he brought from England is a artifact of a famous ship with ties to the very wood in the President's desk. Anyone who has ever given a gift knows it was rude to return a bust of Churchill. Little things like the "reset" button given to the Russian Prez. It was intended to show a new start in U.S. -Russian relations, as equals. But when it doesn't say "reset" and instead says "overcharge". I thought that was funny, and tragic. They thought they could screw us at will. So far, they've been right. How would you treat someone who wants something from you & gives you a Kawasaki 500 model, because he knows you ride bikes, but really either doesn't know the difference & sure could care less if you like any one brand. And the model is really of a Triumph, but is labeled wrong. How smart & serious would you think he is? How do you think Putin, or AQ think of us now? And yet, just to be very inconsistent, he chose to not bow to the Queen of England. She did get a real nice I-pod though. |
