Ok, so for the last three months I've been getting emails and snail mails from ATT about how I'm eligible for a "great discount on an iPhone Upgrade"
For three months I've been waiting intently....so the minute I'm ready, I jump on ATT and look for my special pricing.......only to find the "special" pricing is the same damned price as on Apple's web page...and everywhere else.
I have great service but, as with any provider, and any locale, it will vary. Some say that as long as I can see the sky, I've got service, yeah right.
Anyway, I am looking for a good weather app. I really liked My-Cast when I had my Razr and Tilt but they don't seem to have that ported to the iPhone yet.
BTW, I like the UI and hardware the best out of the last 5 phones I've had, just my $0.02 but the iPhone 3Gs ROCKS!!!!
Uh, Court... that's kinda like getting offered date with a supermodel 20 years your junior, and waiting to decide until you find out if she is a good cook.
It's probably a fair and important question, but the fact that you asked it means you pretty much are missing the main point
Love verizon...been with them for years. Just got the new Droid! Its bad ass. It's better the iphone IMHO
What makes it better? I watched the videos and I like the notifications menu and stuff better than my iphone, but otherwise it looks pretty similar. Does it have an actual GPS receiver, or does it just use network data for location?
Gas Cubby is a neat little app that tracks your fuel info. For example: from 19 Aug to 28 Oct 2009 the average fuel mileage for my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD (diesel) was 30.1 mpg, I spent $246.71 on diesel, the lowest average mpg was 21.6 (towing 2 bikes in a 6x12 enclosed trailer to Jennings and back- about 200 miles), high/low price per gallon was $2.859/$2.499, and it tracks where you filled up, how you paid, if services are due, and a bunch of other neat stuff. For comparison, from 15 Aug to 10 Oct my 2007 Porsche 987 Coupe averaged 26.2 mpg, and I spent $106.86 on gas.
It's nice having all the info stored in your phone, and it's easy to input the data after you fill up. I need to start tracking the bike's mileage, though- don't know why I haven't done that yet.
Xl1200r..... The notifications are very nice. Being able to have multiple things running at the same time is nice.
GPS is one of the best features. Its run by Google Maps. So if you have ever played with google earth you have an idea of what it is. Best part about the GPS...... It's FREE!
I also like the fact it has a slide Qwerty board so you have an option to use touch screen or buttons you can feel.
Processor speed is WAY faster the iphone. A buddy of mine has an iphone and we where comparing speeds just today on online browsing. I could almost get 2 pages to his 1.
Screen is bigger and better resolution then iphone..
Don't get me wrong, iphone is great phone, and if verizon had it now it would be a toss up on which one to get. Since i can't stand ATT, i have no choice but to stay with verizon... There is a map for that!!
Here is a good video of Google Maps.

Ccryder - I use MyWeather Mobile, about $5 in the app store, and worth twice that much. It has a moving radar map, sends alerts if there are weather watches or advisories, and is just an awesome weather app. The radar map is awesome when I'm somewhere and want to know if I should hit the road because the rain is close, or if I can stay a while longer...
Xl1200r do you have the 3Gs? I have been surprised how fast my 3Gs is compared to any of my Win Mobile 6 phones.
I'm not going to defend AT&T but their iPhone pricing is pretty well fixed. ie: 32gb is either $299 or $599. If you qualify for the upgrade or you are new to AT&T, it's the lower price. I guess you just had visions of Unicorns and cotton candy when it turned out to be dill pickles. Ahh such is life.
Now back on topic, thanks for the tips on the apps. Currently I have: Flashlight, Sol Free, Battery Magic, Facebook, iHandy Level, Dropbox, Alarm Clock, The Weather Channel, Accuweather, Distance, USA Today, TaskTask, Showtimes, Sharpshooter
Yeah the Droid looks interesting but not AT&T.
Indybuell, that rumor comes up every year. I think last year Apple and AT&T tied the knot for 2-5 more years.
The reason I stick with AT&T is the coverage in my area and the corporate discount I get (hint, my discount is more than AT&T employees get).
I'm with ya on the discount . . I get 22% off on Verizon but I think I can get like 40% off on AT&T. Just scared of all the rumors I hear in NYC about how crummy the service is.
Verizon sucks at everything EXCEPT telephone service.
AccuWeather (excellent, includes alerts, radar loops, free) Bibles from YouVersion Carpenter Constitution Dictonary.com Flashlight iBird Pro (outstanding!) Google Voice Mixologist (excellent) TideApp Star Walk (Outstanding!) Units
Win mobile is amazing. Somehow, they were able to make it even more clunky than windows on a pc.
From my personal experience, its due to the phone companies. I hacked mine and upgraded it to the a Windows 6.5, its a night and day difference. Faster, reliable, can use my thumb for touch and so on.
pocket god (great way to kill a few minutes) pandora (smart internet radio) the weather channel wikiamo (Wikipedia formatted for the iphone) shazam (music identification program) remote (for itunes over wifi) tap tap (music game) my wireless (att account management) facebok deliveries (package tracking) paypal snap tell (book and cd price search engine) ASL ultimate (sign language) drinks free (drink recipes) do not press (funny app) big oven (food recipes) local news units (conversions)
Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'm going to have to start a compiled list so I can see what best suits me.
AMXb:
Without my discount, my monthly bill is less than $90. With unlimited data plan, 900 min, rollover mins (I'm over 7,000 mins rollover, call anytime) and all the other goodies. Now take the discount..... and it's NICE.
