On my way home from work yesterday, I stopped to get gas.
As soon as I shut the bike down I heard a voice say "How do you like your Buell?" I looked around and saw the guy that was talking to me. I told him I loved it and wished they were still being made. He looked at me with a curious face and asked me what I meant. I told him the deal about H-D shutting them down.... He then proceeded to go off for a few minutes about how all the H-D bikes looked the same, Buell was the only thing different in the stable.... what could the have been thinking....
I just smiled and said "You are preaching to the choir".
I started to put gas in ole Whitey as he drove away..... on the back of his car was the a MSF sticker "Look out for motorcycles"

It just kinda made me feel good. Thought I would share....

ITS FRIDAY!!! Woooo HOOOO!

All Crotch Rockets look the same.
All Buells look the same.
All Rice Burner Cruisers look the same trying to copy Harley Davidson.

More Dumbsh*t?

Wolf cool I'm teaching a class at HD last night and for the rest of this week. during the dealer tour I noticed a couple buying 3 Buell helmets and I went around the counter and asked if they ride Buells and the guy said he just bought an 1125R. I told him about Bad Weather Bikers and wrote it down for him. He is totally excited about his new bike.

Sad that when the students ask about Buell shutting down.

I saw in the MC news a spot about Buell shutting down and they actually have a HD guy in the article quoted that Buell was too intregated into Harley and it is not a stand alone product to sell off.

That horse has been kicked a bunch.... I think the problem was more people sold their H-D's and got onto Buells...
that was not what H-D was hoping for.

Wolfridgerider, it is always nice when someone notices the Buell.

Harleys and Harley clones are very common place anymore. It sure is different from when I started riding Harleys (AMF Days).

It is a lot better in many respects.

Seems the Harley crowd gets jealous when the Buell gets all the attention. Happens on the S1W all the time.

If I sell my Buell and IF is a big word! I will not buy a Harley!
Yeah I know its been kicked around enough
It hurts every time I see another article about it.
and then if we see Buell technology being intergrated into the HD motorcycles its going to make me sicker!

"Harleys and Harley clones are very common place anymore. It sure is different from when I started riding Harleys (AMF Days)."

I remember having the only Harley in the part of South West Georgia where I lived ,back
in the 70's.It was a big deal if you heard a Harley going by.I would run to the window to look.
Now I don't even bother. HD's and V twin cruisers have reached a saturation point.
They are like Honda Civics and Toyota Camrys.

Wolf I Apologize for the "More Dumbsh*t" commit.

If the Economy for the Working Class was better and Bikes was selling like they were Ten Years ago I don't think Harley Davidson would stopped production of the Buell product line.

"do you take ALL HD comments personally" Yes, somebody has too stand up in Harley Davidson's defence.

"do you take ALL HD comments personally" Yes, somebody has too stand up in Harley Davidson's defence.

Basically every design element on a HD compromises function for form. For people that buy into the the 'Lifestyle' that doesn't seem to matter. For people that enjoy a capable motorcycle, HDs seem a bit pointless (700lbs @ 65hp = pointless). This is a Buell forum, and people tend to own them for the handling prowess.

I realize that there are some actual hardcore HD riders, but those seem to largely the minority. A lot of people want to 'look' like bikers, I thought South Park did a good job of pointing that out.

I have owned several cruisers. Each time I convinced myself it would be a different kind of fun. Then 2 or 3 months later, I am completely bored with it and sell.

Wolf I Apologize for the "More Dumbsh*t" commit

No need to apologize, I know what you are saying.

I bought a Harley cause I wanted to be different. That was back in 1993 and thats not that long ago. I was the only person on a H-D when I took my test to get my license and I thought that was pretty cool... and I was the only one that passed that day! Made me feel pretty good. I loved that XLX Ironhead Sporty. I screwed it up by putting a bunch of chrome on it and did a bunch of motor work.... I sold it and got a 2000 Road King. That bike was great! Easy to ride and lots of fun... I screwed it all up buy putting a bunch of chrome stuff on it and a BUNCH of engine work.... that thing would loft the front wheel, it was fun. I rode the crap outta that bike! A friend and I decided we wanted to get some Maine lobster on our way to Rolling Thunder. It was a great ride from Columbus, OH to Maine... stayed pretty dry.... Had our lobster and headed toward DC. Thats when the back cylinder started burning oil.... a lot! I was so pissed, I had dropped about 5 grand in that motor and and this is how it repays me?!
I got back to C-bus and just parked it. About a month went by and I was headed to the Dealership for our monthly HOG meeting and when I got there.... they had a Uly parked in the front window. I asked if I could take it for a test ride....they said sure.... I thought there was something wrong with it.... every time I changed gears from 1st to 2nd the steering got all goofy... then I realized the front wheel was coming off the ground! That was on a Tuesday and by Thursday the Road King was traded in, and the Uly was in the garage!

I may get another Harley someday.... by then I hope I have cured myself of Chrome and motor work.... but that day is a LONG way off... The Uly is to much fun

I was wearing my Buell jacket to the movie theater and the ticket taker asked if I was sad that Buell was shutting down.

Unexpected and funny that she would know all about it.

I said "sad but Erik is my FaceBook friend so it is all good".

In 1978 I had completed my first Basket Case Triumph Chopper at the age of fifteen.
I was forty years old before I ever had a job that I could afford to buy a new Bike off the Showroom Floor. I bought Two Buells. 2002 Buell P3 Blast 492cc bought it new. It is the easiest to work on, least amount of maintenance Fun to ride bike I have ever owned. It is slightly modified and I would like to do more Modifications to it. I still have it.
2002 Buell M2Low Cyclone 1203cc bought it new. Fastest Bike I believe I have ever owned loved the Power, as it was a Stump Puller on takeoff. In addition, the way it pulled from 80mph to 110mph would slide you back on the seat The Cyclone was a little to tall and top heavy for me I have a bad back and very bad knees. so after about 2 years I sold it for $4500.00. I really wish I still had it. I really wish they still made Buells. We need an American Sportbike with an American Engine not a Rice Burner copycat. Harley Davidson has ben #1 to me since I was five years old.

You want an American Sportbike and say an 1125R is a Rice Burner copycat? Then I guess every sport bike is a rice burner copycat, and the only real sportbikes are Sportsters. Then go buy a Harley, and hang out on the Fairweatherbikers page or wherever fags go.

They'll happily sell you a Sportster as a sportbike, and if you can accept that as a sportbike, then go no further. The chassis on an 1125 is light years ahead of a tube frame Buell as sportbikes go, and the tube frame was better than any Sportster, so I guess you are satisfied with less.

And of course there's that terrible Rice Burner engine in the 1125, I guess. If Buell had been able to get H-D to build them the engine they designeed in the late 80's, they would have used it. Because H-D wouldn't, Buell had to go to a Canadian company, who has one of its engine manufacturing divisions in Austria. They built Buell's engine, which finally gave us an American sport bike. IMHO

H-D ain't #1 with me, I can tell you that. Oh, BTW, take all the import parts of your H-D and see how far down the road it'll roll. Oh wait, not only won't the motor run, but there won't be any suspension on it so I guess it won't roll.

Yes Sir, my Buell Blast is fast enough to kill you. More than Ten Miles per hour over the speed limit cost you Points on your License and higher Insurance rates.

My old unrestored Shovelhead draws as much attention as either of my Buells did. And I'm not talking about Loud Pipes it has the twelve inch baffles in the pipes.

Imon what Buell do you ride? If you have a Tuber you have sportster parts in it. I have an 2000 X1 and I know in the future I'll be seeking sportster parts for replacement parts when things break down

Seriously, after dipping my toe into the sportbike waters and leaping headlong into Buells, i just don't ever see buying a cruiser, HD or otherwise.
When sportbikes get too uncomfortable I'll switch to "sport-touring."
To me a motorcycle has to handle well first and foremost.
I don't think that will ever change, because I believe that nimble handling, good power, and better brakes are what make a bike safe.
Most cruisers seem to be designed with looks first, comfort second, with performance, handling, and safety taking a back seat.
The handful of cruisers I've ridden have not changed my view.
I wouldn't say they're all death-traps but I felt a lot more vulnerable riding on a cruiser.

The X1 will share some engine parts with the Sportster. There's a lot that's Buell specific though, frame, suspension, heads, electronics etc. The engine is one part of a bike, but the frame and suspension are so much more.

I'm with ya Prior. I'm hoping for a solid aftermarket for the X1, I plan on keeping that for as long as I live. I'm a little more apprehensive on the part availability for the old Tubers than the XBs

Won't stop either . . . HD hasn't used American made brakes in years to the best of my knowledge
