I'm not sure if this is legit or not, but it is heartbreaking. New Buells to be crushed.

It's legit.

They are not new, most of them are 06 and 07's.

There is a dozen threads about it, they probably are prototype and other R&D bikes. All vehicle manufactures crush them for legal reasons. Sucks that it happens, but its just another day of business as usual.

Don't know whether that particular picture is real or not..

I will say, I did work as a contractor at Honda Motorcycles Marysville some years ago. I was amazed at how many motorcycles that were NOT Honda that were in that place. All new bikes of every model including Harley. They routinely took them apart, studied them, benchmarked them, and scraped every piece. I asked if they sold any of the pieces and parts and the answer was absolutely no.

I have to imagine that every motorcycle manf. and car manf. routinely does the same thing. Just shocking to see for me anyhow...

I worked for Chrysler for 25yrs. and it's the same, all brand new Rams and Hemi Chargers with no VINS just abused and then destroyed, still seemed like such a waste. you would think the could have found homes for the puppies though. If you look close, none of the pups have VIN numbers either....

>>>how many motorcycles that were NOT Honda that were in that place.

All manufacturers do that.

That's how Josef Boyd and I became friends. I met him when he was buying a couple Buells in 1995.

He wrote me and told me . . "let you think me wealthy or the benefactor of a lottery win . . I work for American Honda in Torrence, CA".

Joe and I used to meet in the hills and deserts of California to play and once a year he hosted the "Court and Howie (Howard Kelly - Then Editor of Hot BIke) Gads I hate this sport" ride. I still have photos of the prototype Honda Blackbird with that script on it in chrome.

Joe enjoyed and admired the Buells.

Joe died in an accident while filming an ad at Willow Springs and was one of the best people, best riders and nicest folks I have ever known.

Buell has always bought 15-20 "competitive products" each year.
