Okay, I've been searching for 45 minutes and I know I've seen somewhere on here where someone disassembled a key cylinder and posted pics and everything. I can't for the life of me find it now. Does anyone have it or know what is entailed in getting it apart? I have it out and think I can rebuild it if I can get it apart. |

Nope, thanks though. Someone had taken apart an ignition cylinder because ours are prone to getting hot and burning wires and they took it apart, cleaned it and rebuilt it. I have my OEM cylinder and a spare that I'm thinking about just hooking up a toggle. If I was feeling really good I'd hook up the relay and not feed it so much current and keep it from getting hot in the first place. |

I did the ignition cylinder on my S3. Drill out the rivets and take apart. Be mindful of the bb and spring. Clean the contacts, grease and reassemble. Epoxy the back on. And yes, I used a relay to take the current out of the switch. That was 2-3 years ago and I have not had any trouble with it! |

...and we have a winner! Thanks Andy. I wonder how he got that back off w/o drilling out the rivets? I'll have to do some more investigating. |

No problem, took some digging to find it! I don't know how he did it. I was considering doing the same thing, but then came to my senses and bought one of these from Al for $24: http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/16033.html It didn't seem worth my efforts to mess with the stocker. The one Al sells is clearly a higher quality unit. All that the install took was crimping 3 male spade connectors to the now switch harness and plug it in. |

That's too easy. I'll probably spend $30 tinkering with this one then buy one from Al. |
