could it be that Obama, who's defining goal as Pres is to "fix" health care, thinks that if everyone loses their job (and therefore their insurance benefits as well)they will become more willing to support any health care plan at all. Just a thought, that makes lots more sense when you think of how little, if ever, that BO ever speaks of the unemployment rate. |

If that were the case I think they'd be overstating the unemployment rate instead of understating it like they do now. Obama promised that the stimulus package would keep unemployment below 9% (I think?) and to admit it is now higher would also be an admission that the stimulus failed. So, the guy's between a rock and a hard place on this one. In reality, unemployment is up around 12% and underemployment (we're working 32 hr/wk here) is another 15% or so. Not good news. |

I'm pretty sure the stimulus was supposes to keep unemployment under 8%. That's why there was so much joking about it when it hit 9%. How does one count saved jobs anyway? |

The "right wing extremist" talk show hosts have speculated/accused Obama of wanting economic hardship to help ram through his socialist agenda. They cite E. Rahm & his "a crisis..to good to waste" line, which, to ME, sounds like typical White House Chief of Staff bullishness with a hint of hard truth. I doubt it. If I really thought them that evil, I'd sure hesitate to say so in public. I don't like the tactics used by these guys, and I disagree with the redistributionist mindset involved, but let's be real. Don't attribute to malice what is more easily explained by incompetence. Besides, the "stimulus" bill did not pass in the time Obama wanted & his promise to hold down unemployment doesn't count now. ( of course, it was a lie in the first place. The President only hires his own staff, and even though Obama is setting new records for spreading the wealth in the size & pay of his "advisers" ( see Czars/commissars ) it's never going to be enough to actually change the unemployment #'s. This in not a specific knock on Obama. many politicians spout idiotic lies about what they can & will do. For example ...He hasn't ended the "don't ask, don't tell" policy in the military, even though that IS in his power. Now no matter what you think about gays in the military, a policy like "don't ask, don't tell" could only come from a sick sick man who thinks it fine to lie about your life & relationships. Twisted enough to make it national policy to constantly live in fear that you will be found out, encourages a constant low level paranoid attitude on superiors, who, on some cases will investigate rumors without the possibility of actually asking for the truth. Sick guy came up with that. Obama promised to fix it, and lacks ??? |

Everybody wants to be a millionaire....we are going to pay for that. Go hide a watch. The working man will do nothing extracurricular because he can't afford it . Work and pay exorbitant bills..... with nothing left over for enjoyment of life.We need more US producers/competition and way less pointless jobs. |

Possible reason for out of control unemployment rate too many companies think like Harley-Davidson and just close down a a good little company (like Buell Motorcycle) just to try and impress their stock holders. The spin is "we're going to focus on our core business". Yeah right, like I'm going to believe that! I believe now more than ever, BUY AMERICAN!

Oh, sure, didn't he say if it wasn't passed before anyone had a chance to read it that unemployment would rise up over 8%? Or was it by the weekend so he could go on a date with his wife? I forget, but it didn't get passed until after his deadline, then he didn't sign it until the next week, ( gotta make a big deal out of his ( too late, unfortunately ) victory. ) so any promises he made as to jobs saved don't count. "concentrate on our core business" is code for "sell these idiot's stock right now until they've fired the Board. It's going off the cliff as we watch." ( see- Kodak ) |

Business has been tempted. They stand on the mountain and are promised all the cheap labor they can imagine if only they will betray their own and worship profit above all else. A lot follows from this choice... |

Stimulus is just gov't speak for "you scratch my back and support me and I'll scratch your's at the expense of American taxpayers" It's a mute point regarding our economic recovery except that it's a spendy bit of payback. If they want to create jobs, you give some relief, breaks and incentives to small businesses. Easy. That helps to save and create jobs. Not all this pet BS. |

Some number I heard said that the stimulus was about $150,000 per person. Imagine if they just gave everyone in the US $150,000. Talk about a stimulus -- everyone paying off credit debts and having disposable income.... |

Stimulus bill - $787,000,000,000 U.S. Population - 304,059,724 $2,588 per person. It would make sense to just give it to the people if you could guarantee they weren't going to spend it on Chinese laptops, Japanese cars, etc. |

You want a reason for the high unemployment rate? How about almost all the Manufacturing that used to happen in this country has gone to China? That's kind of like the chicken and the egg argument. At first people bought cheap chinese crap at walmart to save a few bucks and now they buy cheap chinese crap from walmart because everything is made in china and they lost their jobs and this is all they can afford. Some blame corporate greed but isn't consumer greed responsible here too? I can bid a job and offer all domestic material or give the client the option to use foreign for a slightly cheaper price. Guess which one they choose? Me? I don't buy anything from Walmart except that they seem to be the only source for Shell Rotella synthetic oil (don't tell me it too is made in china).} |
