Yep, I fell for that one last year. Didn't realize it was false until now, thanks David. |

The story may be false, but the pictures are pretty wild. |

Cherynobal is just a sleeping giant right now. The time from then (when it happened)untill now, the concrete has become so unstable that forms the sarcofagus of the main rod area, that very soon it will need another coat of it just about all over. The Giant could wake any second. It's not just something thats going to settle down and fade away, it won't even be aproachable safely for a couple of hundered years. Wait for the deformaties and long term problems to manifest. You will probably see much more problems before they find a solution. Sad, very sad. |

Hmmm... the motorcycle looked pretty real in those pics. Granted you can take those anywhere. After visiting a few of the Stans... that part of the country is considerably different than Russia...but most of the reminents of Communism can be seen daily. I learned a lot about the country through one of my own Soldiers who was spoke very little english. He joined the Army, came to my unit and told me he wanted to be a US citizen. The stories he could tell about certain parts of the country were truly amazing. His grandfather also fought in the Russian-Afghan war and lost his left leg. On 21AUG2006 my Soldier took an RPG to his right leg and it was amputated. I tried very hard to keep him motivated and upon returning to the US later after the deployment. He came over to my place with a six pack of Russian beer and a bottle of vodka. We got tanked and I learned some Russian drinking songs... his offer to come visit someday still stands. Perhaps one day, I will venture to explore some parts of Russia and see the places where his stories where born. "Iggy" (First name was Igor) is doing well, and completed the Army ten miler in 2007 with a fully prostetic limb. He is out of the Army now but is in college and happily married to a beautiful young girl and is seeking his citizenship. I won't ever forget that night when he told me... "Itz ok SGT... I loose leg, grandpa loose leg... we only have to buy one pair shoe now!" Shortly before the fire fight, I had given him a bunch of music to listen to. He was amazed with rap music. He came to my room and said... "SGT, so...you can not be rapper...unless you have B!tches, Hoes, and Moneys?!" He's a good kid, and I'd like to visit some parts of that world someday. Thanks for posting this. Even if it is a fluke. |

Geforce, Great story, he sounds like one you need to keep in touch with for life. Zippy, I saw the article in PS this month. Holy shit! How does a turbine blow up like that? It's amazing that more were not killed. Sorry for the thread jack... Brad |
