V and I are in the early stages of looking into a trip to the U.S. next year for Homecoming. At this stage we're looking at flying into L.A., though there are other options, but we still need to figure out what route we'll use to get to Homecoming. (And what mode of transport...) One of the main things we want to do is meet up with as many BadWeb friends as possible, so please PM where you're from and I can start building up a google map and work out a plan Any suggestions on touring the U.S. on a budget are more than welcome cheers, chili |

Chili, we are going to Homecoming as well. at least that is the plan. I ma not sure on a few things like if we are riding or trailering. It depends on a couple of variables out of my control. I will pm you. Frank |

LAX is a good start. How much time will you want between your arrival and homecoming? There are LOADS of California twisty bits that merit a ride or two. Most likely our races at Willow Springs will be a week or two before Homecoming (depending on final Homecoming schedule) Al's American Sport Bike bunch - Southern California Association of Buellers (SCAB) are always up for a ride and a decent dinner. SCAB (click) What is your primary transport means? Rental car? We'd have to see if we could line you up with a loaner bike for the local ride (Message edited by slaughter on November 08, 2009) |

Have you considered flying into Chicago? Or is L.A. part of the planned tour? I have room in the house or my race toy hauler that you're welcome to. I live about 45 minutes from the soon to be former Buell Factory. |

we're in the tampa area at this point but regardless of where we are at the time, we can put you up and more than likely have a great selection of bikes to ride around during your stay. i can't thank you enough for what you did for me. |

You folks are AWESOME I must say first - The trip is not confirmed at this stage, but I'm going to do my best to make it happen. We've talked about going to Homecoming for a couple of years, now with recent events its more important than ever. Our basic plan is to be in the U.S. for around three weeks, probably with Homecoming near the end of the trip. (Flights get more expensive at the end of June/July). My original idea had been to fly to NY, hire a bike and ride west. I've been to the U.S. west coast when I was 7 (I don't remember much!) and when I was 20 with my folks (flew to San Francisco, drove to Seattle to see friends of Mum & Dad). V hasn't been to the U.S. before. Being a bit more budget conscious it might be better for us to hire a car for most of the trip, but I'd really like to ride to Homecoming. Seems like quite a few people are planning on camping at Homecoming and we'd like to do that too. I have to catch up on the Homecoming planning thread, it's moving very fast! Cheapest flights seem to be to L.A., though there used to be cheap flights to Vancouver but I haven't seen any in quite a while. Realistically how much would flights from LA to either Chicago or NY cost? The offers of accommodation (and motorcycle rides!) are more than appreciated . You folks are very kind, and I'm pretty sure we'll be taking up a few of your generous offers if we make the trip. Our main focus is Homecoming and putting faces to names of BadWed, and doing some serious bench racing . I suppose what we have to work out is what we want to do before Homecoming - either see a little of a lot of places, or spend more time in one area. cheers, chili |

I live a few miles from Bott and can offer the same as him. The northeast and New England are very unique areas of the country (they all are), and if you can get to the east coast I'd recommend it. BTW, we're only a few hours form New York City if that's something you want to do as well. |

in the USA car rentals are a lot cheaper the bike rentals. Driving form coast to coast means you have to drive thru a boring middle. |

Driving form coast to coast means you have to drive thru a boring middle. Yeah, but your only in Kansas for 400 or 500 miles, it only feels like an eternity.

We're used to big distances and long straight roads... http://adelie.cx/lca2005-pics/Hay-Plain.jpg Although we don't mind driving big distances, we don't want to spend the whole trip sitting on an interstate... I've done a little checking on some prices. Barker's right about bike rentals. Ok, bike rental for the whole trip is way out, about three times the price of a car. Car rental is not too bad for a medium sized car. Search engines keep working out I'm from Aus, so I'm not sure if I'm getting best prices. Does around $400 per person for LA to NY return flight sound like a good price? $340-ish for LA to Chicago and back? |

look for sales on southwest.com They occasionally have sales with really good deals. I almost bought a ticket last week, Nashville to Las Vegas for $75 one way. right now regular prices, per person, one way. LA to NY $134 USD LA to Chicago $154 USD (Message edited by barker on November 08, 2009) |

Me and my little jillaroo(Jodie) are in Colorado as well and would love to plan a group ride through some great mountain roads. Frank and Lynn, Dan and Julie, me and Jodie... and many others would enjoy making it a scenic leg of your trip. |

If you happen to swing by the Oklahoma City area you're more than welcome to the spare bedroom, garage space, tools, and cold beverages. But to get here, you'd have to go DEEP into that boring middle area. Hope to meet you both at HC 2010! |

You guys are awesome! If this is going to happen, we will have a lot of planning ahead of us...and saving! Apparently a new Baby(1125r) can take up a lot of time and money. I am hoping we will find a way. Visiting everyone is something, as Chili says, that we have wanted to do for a long time. Keep it coming, we are building up a nice little map with plenty of red dots |

The middle of the US is not boring! On route 50 it was awesome. Vamp look up the other trans-contintal highway called the Lincoln highway route 30. I've been researching this highway for my trip out to Milwaukee for next year. |

Lemonchili and Vampress, Ha! As I predicted if you posted here... Lots of good suggestions and more than you could do in your short time here. Since we live so close(half day's ride) to East Troy we'd be glad to show you around our back yard. If you're flying in and riding from the east coast we'd ride out to join you on your journey to WI. So much to see, so little time. JB2 |
