....and I am blindly expected to believe that the Muslim community is beyond reproach and believable for denouncing His actions, or just covering their asses?

Sorry, happens too much, too often. How many have been disproven?

Limitedx1- He IS an American. Born here just like me and I assume you. Does that make it better or worse? I think worse.

In my opinion it looks like he was a picked on, stressed out minority that went off the deep end. I doubt it was an act of terrorism and just one of rage. Truly a sad day and I pray for the families that lost loved ones.

I said this before and will say it again...

do you think any middle east countries have any Joe Smiths or John Browns that are enlisted in their country's militaries? How many white christians are in the Iranian army?

I think part of basic training should be a nude crawl through raw pork parts and then you have to pull at least a pound of it out and cook it yourself and eat it...if you can't do that you can't serve...that should eliminate some of this from happening again.

Fool us once shame on you (9/11), fool us twice shame on us.

I guess that counts the Jews and vegetarians out as well. Just read an article that 70 percent of Americans are unfit for duty because they are too fat.

i have not read all of the stuff on this topic here. But I do want to let it be known that Ft Hood Is my permanent duty station. As many of you know I am deployed to Afghanistan at the moment. My unit did have one person that was there during this mess and he received 3 shoots to the back but is ok. I cannot give out his name and stuff but I just want every one to please keep him in yalls thoughts. I do not know if i know anyone else that was hit by this travesty.

I am very much still in shock about the whole thing. I cannot believe that I am safer here in a war zone than i am at my permanent duty station. I have never been as shook up over big things like this as I am over this one. It is one thing to see something happen to a place you have never been or to people I have ever met. But it is really hard when it is a building that i have been too many times and I was there the day before I deployed and for it to be were I have lived for most of my adult life.

Say You are a Muslim and in the US Army. If asked to fight, would You fight for Your Country, or would You fight for Your Religion?

When I was in the Army the saying was "God, Family, Country, in that order). It seems like the current state of affairs(from what little I know of Islam) would put a muslim soldier in a tough spot.

It also does not seem to make much sense to me to have someone of middle east decent and a muslim working to help the mental state of soldiers after they came back from the middle east.

And finally, but most importantly, may God bless and look over the victims and their families.

"...do yourself a favor and take a psychology course.."

Crisrogers3;

I've take several in fact. And practiced law for 15 years thereafter; much of it as a criminal defense lawyer as well as a prosecutor. And from that educational and career experience, here's a bit of a news flash for you:

There are people who are simply evil. There are belief systems that are simply evil. No amount of liberal relativism can change those immutable facts.

But then, no amount of empirical evidence has much relevance to a liberal either.

Here's a thought, instead of carping amongst ourselves about who is "right" why don't you all take a minute to actually DO something that will benefit those directly impacted by yesterday?

".when patriotism is turned into racism because of the situation im gonna be a little upset"

That is a tactic in politics that has been getting use for several years now, just substitute "racism" with the PC claim for the day. Don't let them push your buttons and thereby manipulate you.

Prosecute the shooter for premeditated murder and do not allow the Press access to him for interviews (which would give the shooter a public forum).

And I'm not going to get sucked into the Liberal v Conservative Press debates that the Whitehouse staff seems to be playing an active role in.

A tragedy has occured on a U.S. Military base on U.S. soil. That should be the focus. All the political and religious gamesmanship can wait.

You just asume its an Islam thing.......Yea, if it is, I'm for hanging the sob, but this 'mob mentality' may be based on some yahoo's vigilante mindset. The dude probably had been deployed before nad was sick of having to go again, and thats all....... did you think of that?? Yea I dispise Islam as much as anyone, but to say its for sure related is just too soon. I'm sure it will come to light, you can be sure CNN will milk this to death

Fundamentalist religion -- the religious freaks, if you will -- is the fringe upon which violence is created, whether it's explosive vests in the market place or bullets to the back of a doctor's head in church.

A Holy book may be written by God, but the interpretation is made by the followers.

If the guy was terrified of going...or whatever other reason for not going...he is/was an officer....he could resign his commission and refuse to go on whatever grounds he thinks are right....no bloodshed involved.

Or he is a freakin looney tunes...just help natural selection along a bit.

Well, I served for 8 years, I served on that Post until 1996. I am astonished that it was an officer, a leader, someone that is supposed to be beyond reproach in the execution of his/her duty. This man, regardless of religion, is a traitor to his nation, his fellow soldiers and should be kept alive and punished severely every single day of his miserable life.

Death for this individual is too quick to end the suffering, he needs to suffer for many years. My rage is getting the better of me right now so I will stop posting after this one, but oh what I would give for 5 minutes in a room alone with this traitor, I would want him completely healed before I could get my hands on this punk.

Moving on, we must mourn the fallen brothers and sisters today. Don't forget them.

Gohot,

Non-confirmed information that I've found elsewhere indicates that this would have been the shooter's first deployment. And to my thinking, if he was supposed to be a specialist helping returning personnel to deal with stress issues then it seems like it might be good to have someone "over there" to help the returning personnel a little sooner in the process.

But I'm not there, just my opinion.

He may or may not have been able to simply resign his commission and not go. There are limits on this ability. If the government paid for his school he had a commitment from that. He had some commitment for just joining. If he had recently been moved he would have likely had a commitment from that. If he had recently been promoted to Major he would have obtained a commitment from that. So it is very possible that he could not just resign his commission and refuse to go. At least that is the way it was when I was a commissioned officer.

I must say, this board is so full of wrong or at best only partially correct information it is scary. The so called news programs are so full of flat out wrong information that so many people accept as fact that we are becoming a nation of misinformed reactionaries.

The talk shows are even worse. I wish we had a system of holding people more accountable for the incorrect information they spread.

To the people at Fort Hood and their families I send out my condolences and prayers.

As to Major Hasan, whatever his motivation, I say punish him to the fullest extent of the law.

I never insinuated that he could just walk away scott free....he could have refused to go...nobody would have slapped him and dragged him to the plane and tossed him in....Patton is long since dead.

He would end up in psych or in the brig...but he wouldn't be deployed.

Liquor..... As a former enlisted I concur with your comments about officers seeming to be above reproach by junior enlisted, even moreso for O-5 and above. And like you this is one of the things that shocks me the most (Even though I know that officers are human just like everyone else. The attitude of NCOs seems to put officers as one step closer to godliness than us mere mortals, and it kinda rubs off on you as a E1 - E4.)

Dyna..... yes, let the UCMJ run its course. I have full faith that appropriate actions will be taken.

I talked to a couple of navy doctors (the mental health ones) out here (Afg) about this and it turns out two of them went to school with this guy. they had some interesting things to say; mostly that he was a normal guy with a family. the only thing that made him a little different was his dedication to islam.

now not having seen a full report on this situation no one is really to say what his motives are. The discussion on islam is a little bit misguided at this point except in one area; the natural, logical outworking of islam is this kind of violence (if you say otherwise, that is a nice, cute, hug-the-world kind of thing to say, unfortunately it isn't true....) which stands in somewhat stark contrast to most other religions of the world (Buddhism, Hinduism what have you). I suppose even the fact that this is the immediate discussion point when this sort of thing happens does show that we all know this to be true; it is a rather inconvenient truth, but it is none the less. (ask yourself, if someone who is Jewish shot up school, what would your immediate thought be? i doubt it would be "this guy was just following his religion")

There are people who are simply evil.

This sums it up entirely... The whole point of a terrorist/perpetrator act is to generate fear and hatred. When we hate another, for whatever reason, the terrorist/ perpetrator has already won the battle. There is a way to live with the ramifications of the aggresor and not let it consume your soul completley so you act other than human... It does however, require the courage to face your anger honestly...All the hatred in the world doesn't undo the violence, the trauma or the greif... Ask me how I know this in a PM... I will not post it here...

There... end of my morality speech...

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families... This perpetrator will live hopefully locked up in a maximum security prison psyche unit where they can study his mental illness and gain some good out of it.

I also hope this event will divert that particular unit out of harms way and at least postpone their deployment...
