Gents, I'd like your opinions on the HD extended warranty for my new 08 Uly. It took the Buell tragedy to get me off my wallet and now I was wondering how well HD honors warranties and if it would be wise to spend the (approximately $1,280) for the three years of additional coverage. That comes out to about 36 dollars per month over the three year period. I will likely only ride 2-3 thousand miles per year. Thanks |

If it were me, I'd get it. |

At that mileage, I wouldn't even consider it. It's like optional insurance - it only saves you coin in the event of something rather unforeseen. |

Agreed. H-D's warranty company is top notch on most occasions when have used them. Hopefully you will never need to use it... But won't you sleep better knowing your covered? Plus if you do sell your bike it will pay for itself in "peace of mind" to the next buyer. T |

For $1200 I can buy a LOT of parts and fix three years of problems myself. Having just bought an 09 XT, I can't forsee having $1200 worth of problems in the next three years anyway.. I think your money is better spent (or saved) elsewhere. |

I fix my own stuff so it's a no brainer for me. Think of the cash you would have in the bank if you passed on every extended warr on TVs, Cars, Bikes, Toasters, etc. Plenty for any repairs. Way back in the day...I worked at a large electronics store and got paid commission. I got paid over double for selling the warr. than I did for the item itself. |

The ONLY extended warranty I have ever bought was the one for my XB...I figure if something catastrophic happens to the motor, it will be worth it....plus it goes with the bike if you sell or trade it in...built in extra value. It does not cover normal wear items like tires or brakes or whatever small expendable stuff....so I can still fill my need to tinker, but not worry if the oily parts exit the motor......or in other words....if I didn't get it....sure as hell, on the way home the engine would have grenaded....thats my luck. |

So far younze have suggested 4 to 3 against the extended warranty. That's real close to 50 50 which is why I first asked the question. Thanks for the help. |

Do you fix your own stuff and don't mind to gamble? If so don't buy it. If you don't fix your own stuff and will constantly worry about if it's going to break and what it will cost you, you should probably buy it. Chances are that nothing major will go bad, but you never know. If it will make you enjoy the bike more because you never have to worry about it, that's worth something. Personally, I wouldn't buy it. But I have no problem tearing an engine/trans apart to fix it. Done it plenty of times. |

Don't count my opinion because I work for a Harley dealer. I just wanted to add that you can get Tire and Wheel coverage - and I have had a lot of people glad they did THAT. Doesn't cover wear and tear, but is nice when you have a blowout. If I remember correctly, some states you can purchase the H-D Tire and Wheel separately from the ESP. Some states not so much. Didn't check your state. Just throwin' that out there. |

I went ahead and bought the extended warranty for mine. After the fact I wish I hadn't, only because I like to modify my bikes, and I'd hate to void my warranty after paying for an extra 3 years. Hope I don't need it. |

Is Buell a quality product? does it have its own warranty already? Yes and yes so the extended warranty doesn't make sense to me. |

+1 for the tire and wheel, if nothing else. Nail? Blowout? Pothole that pops the tire and dings the rim? Covered. Big smoky burnouts are NOT covered, however...LOL. |
