Most bikes you see today are over styled to me.Like too much make up. Buells are what they are. The Uly looks way cool and straight forward to me. I have to peel myself away from looking at it. |

I'm a function over form person. If it works, it's beautiful. The beauty of Buell lies in the following: 1) Fuel in frame 2) ZTL brake 3) Oil in swingarm (on the XB) 4) Radiator pods that double as frame sliders (1125) 5) Short wheelbase 6) Steep steering angle 7) Low unsprung weight 8) Mass centralization What it looks like has NOTHING to do with beauty. How many of you can SEE your bike when you're riding it down the road? If you're doing it properly, no one else will see you either. The bike that is beautiful to me is the one that FEELS beautiful, not the one that looks beautiful. |

Firstbuell, I'm kind of on board with the Farmall Blast... As far as looks go, though, I haven't seen a Buell yet that I don't like. Vise Grips, Channel Locks, and M1911A1s may not be pretty, but they work beautifully. "You might think she's ugly, but Damn, can she cook..." |

The only thing that can be said with any certainty is Buell never bettered the S1's - and though it was ten years ago now, and the XB S's were close, Buells fate was sealed. Had Buell made the 1125 stunning looking, they might have wowed the 21st century motorcycle world enough to have saved their bacon. Looks sell. Only in America would ugly fly on patriotism. The 1125 needed to wow everywhere but America. That it didn't was down to it hitting every branch on the ugly tree on its way down. Sad but true. Other than the looks it was received well by the press over here. Rocket |

I actually thought the XB9r was ugly (the front) until I ended up not able to resist buying one. |

Only in America would someone buy a bike because of the way it looks. In America, we see people buying overpriced chrome butt jewelry that handles bad, is underpowered, and has brakes like a pair of 2x4's rubbing the brake rotor....all in the name of "looking cool". We have a hit show about a family of bike builders that make some of the most uncomfortable looking, hard to ride, ill handling beasts I've ever seen and people were buying them for six figures. It's not about how it looks. It's about how it stops, goes, and turns. Pretty never won anything on the track. "Well, the Gixxer won the race, but damn if that Ducati isn't beautiful, lets give the trophy to him instead." Humm....no, that logic doesn't work. If anything sealed Buells fate, it's trying to sell innovative, different looking bikes in a dealer network that caters to "old school" nostalgia. I'm not bashing anyone's choice of bikes, I'm just saying that Buells aren't ugly. They are a thing of beauty. Getting more butts in the seats for test rides would have been all it would take for Buell to be a runaway success. Even the air-cooled bikes FELT fast because of the torque. Every person who's ridden one of my Buells have all said the same thing, "That bike is SO easy to go fast on". Yep...that's the beauty of it. |

I don't believe I've ever said Buells were ugly. I could if you wanted me to, write a list of what I find attractive about each Buell model built. Please don't make me though, lol. Let's face it, Buell haven't made an ugly bike ever. However, it's simple and to the point saying the 1125 is ugly. It's not ugly really though. It's more like Cameron Diaz growing extraordinarily large ears they make her look like rather peculiar. That's all. I'm sure there's a cure for the 1125 though. I would have thought by now one of the American fabled custom houses might have done a number on one. The challenge could be rather fortuitous if some sows ear to silk purse occurred. Rocket |
