Got a question fer ya..... Who out there owns a Toshiba LCD tv? Purchased in the last two years? If you do.... I hope you got an extended warranty with it. My 42 just turned itself into a big steaming pile of doodo! Long story short, the lcd panel itself has failed. Just out of warranty no less. They (Toshiba) offered to cover half of the part to fix it. My share of the bill. Well lets leave it at $800 for the lcd and $200 for another board. They figure it is worth throwing $1000 (plus labor) of my money to fix it. Kinda had to laugh at their suggestion. As I only paid $1100 for it in the first place. Brand spanking new in the box and just off the truck. Let me repeat this little gem. They say it is worth the money to throw $1200 at a $1100 tv to repair it. Then on top of it. It would still be out of warranty. I politely declined their offer to say the least. Told them I would rather buy a new tv and have IT under a warranty. Also told them it would not be another Toshiba product. Did some web research related to this. Seems Toshiba may have a small problem. There is a record, or trail, of lcd failures starting around the age of 14 months. Not limited any one particular size panel. | ||

They say it is worth the money to throw $1200 at a $1100 tv to repair it. eh, NEW sets in the 40" range are going for $600-$800 | ||

Loki, Last year I had my 46 inch LCD have a problem 1 month before warranty was up. It had a line that went vertical 6 inches in from right side of the screen. I called American TV where I bought it. They made a appointment. Then a dat later a service tech called me and wanted to review the problem. It was just days before Thanksgiving last year. He told me he should hear from Toshiba by the end of the week. Well he called and said he hadn't heard from them so he was to issue a full refund or replacement. He said bring it in and I would get taken care of. The wife and I took the refund but did infact buy another LCD from them. I bought a Samsung 55 inch. Got a free Blue ray player and for a extra 135 bucks added to what I paid for the Toshiba I got a 5 year warranty. The Samsung is just top notch. The picture is far beyond and I have had zero problems as of yet. BTW the Toshiba went out on my just 2 weeks before its 1 year warranty expired. I was lucky. | ||

Loki, Did you pay for it with a credit card? Some credit card companies claim they will add a year or double the warranty. Just a thought to check out. Al (Message edited by raceautobody on November 03, 2009) | ||

Eh.....don't get me started!  How about a new GE fridge full of chinese parts. One month before the warranty expired they started fixing it. Three months later it was working. $2100 fridge. Down for three months, we had to park the camper beside the house and run out there for milk and such. They spent $1800 fixing it. .....STUPID. When it failed again I fixed it the way I told that ••••••• repair guy to and it has worked the last year with no problems. Try a new Whirlpool electric range. FAIL. Four attempts to fix it(different repair guy), one repair visit a month, as it took that long to get new parts from china each time. Still not fixed. They tore the flooring in front of the stove, haven't heard from them in nearly a year. I works but not correctly. $400 dollar unit, they spent over $500 and I am stuck with this piece of shit and the damaged floor. The best resolution I have found is to pass on all of the information you can, like we have done here and forget about it. Get the new one you want. These turds I have are functioning well enough to stay because I went back in and made them work. On separate occasions I tried to get them to just replace them, but oh no, they can't give up after putting so much in them. When ever I move next I would love to air drop these thing into the parking lot in front of the stores with news media on hand. Good luck, I know the joy you are feeling.  | ||

I had a panel go bad on my RCA. They had me bent over for 3 MONTHS! They finally asked if I would take a simular model as exchange. The thing was my computer moniter as well as my tv. I really hade no choice but to. If the panel goes bad you are better off just getting a new tv. Have a friend who had a Sony LCD that took a dump out of warranty and they gave him a new LCD that was a better model than his old one !!! | ||

Customer service. Some companies get it and others don't. I love my Samsung plasma and have had nothing but great luck with all the Samsung products I have owned. 3 TV's, VCR(was 8yrs old when I chose to put it in the closet), microwave(4yrs old). Hope I haven't jinxed myself now though. Never had problems with Sony either. | ||

Already in search mode. Something before the weekend will sit in the spot formerly occupied by the doodo pile. Right now do not know which way to go. Plasma or LCD. Found a nice 50 inch 1080 plasma for $1k. | ||

Loki, I have LCD in my bar. I was told by the audio company installer's that LCD is the way to go. I most cases it can be repaired on site. They say Plasma though if something goes out it takes more time to locate it. So they actually take it out for repair. | ||

Both have their own pros and cons. Doing a lot of reading and asking questions of those around me. A buddy of mine has a DLP. What a picture that one has. It also has it drawbacks. Which ever way the money flows.... It is going to be at the minimum a 46 incher. With some of the candy BB is offering to me. I can step it up a notch in quality. |
