After a 3rd round of layoffs over the past 2 years I found out today that I still have a job. I know I should be happy but I find little joy in the fact that I have a job while many of the people I consider my friends are shown the door. I love my job and have always looked forward to going to work but it really sucks going in these days and seeing all the empty cubicles. I find myself wanting to hide in my mechanical prototyping lab and avoid almost everyone. I guess the up side is I have a great amount of respect for my new boss. Like myself, he's prior military and doesn't buy into the PC crap that permeates throughout so many companies today. I sure hope our economy gets better soon so people that truly want to work can find decent paying jobs. Sorry for the useless post, I just needed to vent. | ||

it's getting to a point that a lot of people are needing to vent because of the economic situation. we're down to a handful of people at work also and no sign of any jobs coming in so the only thing i can think is that it will be just a matter of time before the ax falls again but i'm hopeful that things might change around. actually i'm praying that they will. | ||

Sorry for the useless post, I just needed to vent. That was far from a useless post, and i completely understand what you mean. I work in construction and i am a field foreman for an Mechanical/HVAC contractor. This last year has been increasingly tough to get through. I have had to lay off not only many fantastic workers, but many great friends. Some of them I laid off last September, over 12 months ago and have yet to be able to call them with any type of work on the horizon. When you spend a lot of time with a core group of workers you can't avoid forming bonds, and times like these truly show the bonds you have formed. Lets just all hope for the best, and hope we all come out of this alright. |
