http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2009/Oct/091021ia.h tm This might be a repost. I was hoping to sell my 05 XB12Scg but after looking at this, I'd be lucky to give it away. |

Like I said on another board, Vincent Black Shadows probably took a nose dive in 1956 too. Think long term. |

It doesn't matter what the price is, but how much is it worth to you? |

Prices will rebound. Those looking to buy a Buell won't have a dealer to go to soon. Supply and demand will dictate that prices will rise on existing models. |

Of course brand new Buells as low as $4995 will kill current resale of used Buells. This won't last forever though. If you really want to sell, I would venture to guess that by next spring (the best time to sell IMO) prices will be back where they were if not higher. Some potential buyers will be scared by the idea of buying a motorcycle that is no longer produced, due to service and parts availability concerns. Other buyers, however, will be looking for the Buell of their dreams, and will probably be even more motivated to buy since they know that there are a limited number available and they can no longer wait on next year's model. |

I don't see prices going up at all. People know that a 2010 City sold for 6000.00. How's a 2003 gonna fetch 4000.00? Tubes are an excellent example. They haven't been made in 8-9 years, has the price gone up for those? The market is flooded with XB's. All this current, "blow the doors off", pricing has done is lower their value. The only sportbike bike I know of that's held its value is the Ducati 916. I say all of this because I'm biased...I want an XB for as cheap as I can get one! |

I think the prices will rebound at some point. It's not like there is a fresh supply of new Buells to keep feeding the frenzy at these prices. There is a limited supply and people are snatching them up. When that supply goes away what do you expect to happen? There might be a few folks planning to turn around and dump their new purchases to make a profit, but I find that unlikely (seems like a unwise investment). The market for new Buells will be dry and the used market will be what ever it will be regardless of the current fire sale. |

"There might be a few folks planning to turn around and dump their new purchases to make a profit, but I find that unlikely (seems like a unwise investment)" What do you think HD employees have been doing around here for a week? Problem with your supply and demand theory is DEMAND. How many people, besides us, are going to want one? Most people want a bike to ride, I realy don't see alot of people wanting a discontinued bike, especially one that's company and support system is gone. Now you're into a whole different bike owner, one that's more of a collector. Time will tell. |

I don't know what it'll be worth. My buddy's 1985 Honday V-65 Magna is still worth about 3 K even with 100,000 because it's in such great shape and well maintained. You can still get parts, some are just fits-all. |

BCS - Supply and demand is up to the used market though and has nothing to do with current discounted prices of new bikes which was the point of this thread. The used market will be whatever it will be based on supply and demand in the that market. Just my opinion, but the current fire-sale prices will not likely have much of an effect on the used market once the new bikes are gone. I agree that the prices might not be very good for those looking to sell down the road but would be for the reason you stated about buying discontinued bike. |

I agree, once those new bikes are gonezo, we'll be seeing a whole new market. And I think more of a classic Buell owner of the 1980's who are truely looking for "different in every sense". I'm really curious to see how modified bikes are going to sell compared to stock. If those discontinued Buell Race kits will gain owners more money. Time will tell. |

My simplistic view is that prices are going to be LOW for a year or two, but will slowly begin to raise. |

If those discontinued Buell Race kits will gain owners more money As I recall, one went for $1500 on Ebay. I guess my bike is worth at least that, eh |

These bikes may not bring much anytime soon, but I see them eventually becoming collectors items. With the reputation Erik already has, the innovations involved, and the way the brand was killed off at its peak, makes for a great legend. As the number of available bikes dwindle, I believe we'll see it. 'Course, I'm talking in terms of decades, not just a few years. ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on October 22, 2009) |
