Very nice. Looks like a fun project, especially if you can find a damaged sportster at a good price. |

Or already have one in the garage just waiting for winter..... mine will end up a bit different. Needs rear sets. That front number plate is hideous, and I would like to mount a set of XB wheels to the beast. Still not going to be as light as the Buell, but it should pare down about 65 lbs from its current configuration. |

I think the xr1200 might look and ride better if Eric and crew cubed it! (Message edited by kurbennett on October 22, 2009) |

Like I said in another thread, I'd like to see Erik's vision of a street tracker. Maybe with a Helicon engine? |

Hey Brian ... do any of them R's have the 19" laced front ? If so - wanna sell one ? Or is that just your lust list ? Been quietly looking for one ... got plans for one of them ... something not often done with a Sporty - at least not properly IMO (Message edited by tattoodnscrewd on October 22, 2009) |

This winter I am putting the black laced wheels from the XL1200N Nightster on my 05. I am getting closer to making it look like the original 57. Still need the wheels, shocks and to install the custom dash I have. |

This bike has the advantage of having a Buell engine. http://grandnationalreplica.com/ |

Thank you It has transformed a bit further since that photo was taken though And now looks like this....
I also have a new body kit (seat/tank cover/fairing) to put on to transform it into a modern XLCR lookalike, but just haven't got around to painting and fitting it yet.

Saw an XR parked on the street yesterday. Same one I saw in the showroom, but it looked hot out there in public. I could ride one. I've always loved Sportys, which is why I love my Blast and lusted for an XB |

This winter I am putting the black laced wheels from the XL1200N Nightster on my 05. Nice, Cityxslicker, but you've GOT to have an 18" rear wheel! 16" = cruiser, 18" = "real" Sportster!

Trojan, where's the info on the XLCR look alike? I would seriously consider building one of those. Beautiful. |

I'm confused. I thought this thread was about what an XR should look like? Matt, you've turned your big dirt bike come streetfighter look into a sort of semi cafe racer. I don't get it. I'd have thought the sit-up and beg look was the way to go if building for XR style? Rocket |

The XLCR look-a-like is so much nicer than the stock HD XR1200 looks-nothing-like-an-XR750 bike. Still way too heavy though I'd bet. |

If we are to include British built XR's, how about this Anglo American offering?
All sold out I'm afraid but for me it's the kind of bike that's always said to me, here's where Buell should have been in one sense or another. Maybe now I might be proven right when Buell start building exotics for a niche market. Erik? Rocket |

The XLCR parts for the X1200 can be found here http://www.adrenalinmoto.co.uk/prods/pc27.html All are straight bolt on pieces to fit to a stock XR1200. I'm confused. I thought this thread was about what an XR should look like? Matt, you've turned your big dirt bike come streetfighter look into a sort of semi cafe racer. I don't get it. I'd have thought the sit-up and beg look was the way to go if building for XR style? I deliberately went the other way as I knew that almost everyone would try and turn their XR1200 into a dirt track replica. The XR750 that I remember most fondly was Cal Rayborn's XR750TT that he raced here in 72/73 against the UK road racers, so that is my inspiration rather than the street tracker look. I wouldn't say that the new Norton is Anglo American any more, as the motor they bought from Kenny Dreer was no good. The entire engine has had to be re-engineered to enable mass production and it now bears little internal resemblance to the Dreer Norton. I am looking forward to seeing what the 'standard' production Commando model will look like and how much it will cost |

Matt I really like your cafe racer. It seams the big complaint is the bike is too heavy. I would have to agree with that XR's are within 35 lbs of my FXR. Has anyone figured out how much a chrome moly frame would cost? That is the only way I see to get rid of a substantial amount of weight. Next question how much to duplicate your bike? |

Those XLCR pieces while a bit pricey really transform the bike. What the hell is glassfibre? Kidding. |

Has anyone figured out how much a chrome moly frame would cost? That is the only way I see to get rid of a substantial amount of weight. Next question how much to duplicate your bike? I hate to add up the cost of duplicating our bike, but I suppose it must be in the region of GBP6000 (US$9500) by now just in parts alone + the bike on top Some parts are prototypes of parts that we helped develop but everything is pretty much available to buy now. Saving weight from the XR1200 is relatively easy, as just about every component is overweight and can be replaced with lighter items. The top triple tree alone weighs around 3kg (6lbs!) and the aftermarket items weigh less than half of that. So far we have removed around 40kg (80lbs) just by changing components over and ditching stuff that wasn't relevant such as passenger footrests etc. Fitting lighter wheels from either Braking or Dymag would save another 25-30lbs over stock. I did have an excel spreadsheet with all the individual component weights that I removed/changed but unfortunately lost it when my computer crashed recently Since this was taken I have had the exhaust coated black by a company called Zircotec. They are heavily involved with F1 and Indycar teams in heat resistant coatings and it is a completely different process to the usual Cermacoat process. This uses a plasma sprayed ceramic coating that will reduce exhaust temperature by as much as 35%. The finish is strange and feels like rough sand paper. I will get some photographs of it when I next get the bike out of the garage |
