Ok, I need some new ear buds for my iPod. What's the best ones you guys use for inside a helmet? The OEM's keep falling out. |

I have a pair of the philips noise canceling ones that work pretty good PNSHN2500. They fit in my ears great and they only cost like 30 bucks. |

Shure Sound Isolating Stereo Headset .. made for smart phones, includes the answer/hang up/track advance/etc ... button and (which works great on an ipod as well)... best things I've ever heard ... use them on both my iphone and ipod ...you can listen to them without the phone adapter however. Shure is a quality product. Nice price tag too though... 100 bucks .. but I think they are absolutely worth it for the fit and sound quality ... Best Buy carries 'em ..... |

I hate ear buds. For a cheap easy great sounding speaker set, I took a pair of small head phones, cut off the head band and velcro'd them in. I had to move them around a couple of times to line up for maximum sound quality, but I love them. $16 should do. I have a Phillips MP3. The sound quality is way better than I was expecting. |

I tried speakers in the helmet ... still hear too much wind noise and speakers/phones that size cannot support high enough volumes to hear over the wind noise ... plus I like the ear pocket in the helmet to not be mashing my ear to my head ... haha I never cared for buds either but got used to them .. and the Shure's are comfortable enough to not be a bother, and the sound isolating - means I can listen to them at lower volumes because I am not listening to wind noise .. my 2 cents ... I have these: Etymotic Research ER6i Isolator In-Ear Earphones Bought them from amazon and LOVE LOVE LOVE them. The sound deadening alone is equivalent (or damn close) to that of the cheap foam ear plugs. I can use my ipod at half the volume I need it at using standard ear buds in the helmet. And I have loud exhaust. (Message edited by Mikef5000 on October 21, 2009) |

I have the Phillips and the Shures. The Shures are great but cost more, the Phillips aren't bad and are a relative bargain. The sound quality of the Shures is noticeably better, they are pretty equal in blocking outside noise. I don't use the noise canceling on the Phillips, it just adds "white" noise as a mask anyway. I've tried others (cheap) but most don't block outside noise worth a darn. |

My new helmet comes with instructions and I believe knock-outs for speakers and I thought about it, but think I'll go with good buds. Off to Best Buy to look at Shures |

I don't remember what kind I have, but the model is "marshmallow" or something lame. Walmart has them for less than $20 and they wrk great, seal out the sound, are comfortable. |

Hmmmm. Tried a few different bud-types and after an hour, had to take them out because they were so irritating. NOW - looks like some of these MIGHT be worth it for under-the-helmet |

I've been using some of these that I picked up at Best Buy. There's two versions. Standard $19 versions but they only seem to come in bright colors; blue, purple, red. And the ones with volume control on the cord for $29 They have great sound and block out the right amount of ambient sound... most but not all. The best part is that they have a bend in them that allows them to fit perfectly in your ear so they don't fall out or press against the helmet. i think they work best if you wear the L in the right ear and the R in the left ear. |

John, I've been using these... And for $10 they sound okay. And I'm not afraid of losing 'em. My Bell Star came in on Monday and it's not as tight as my Shoei in the upper part of my head, so I have problems with the OEM iPod buds falling out. I rode to Hal's from Menomonee Falls on Tues night and by the time I got there, the buds were on my cheeks. What I like about all these that you guys have posted is how good they'll stick in my ears. |

Those Sony buds fit excellent, by far the best I've tried. I've tried several different types; foam plug style, wrap-around-the-ear style, expensive Sony "noise cancelling" ear buds, skull candys, some cheap ones from walmart. The biggest problem I've found with earbuds are that they usually stick out from the ear just a little too far. So when your helmet on they often get pulled out or tweaked so that the bud isn't snug and will eventually fall out. What's worse is if they stick out far enough the helmet pads will press the earbuds in tighter which will eventually cause irritation and usually gives me a headache. |

i use Zune premium for my ipod.. It's the best sounding buds i have ever heard for $10-20 bucks. Last pair i paid $40 for at best buy, then when i wore them out, i bought 3 more pair on ebay for $40 for all 3. Only problem i had was these do stick out of your ears a little more and takes some messing with to get them just right with your helmet on, but it does work and they cancel out noise! http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-MICROSOFT-ZUNE-PREMIUM-EAR PHONES-HEADPHONES-V1-V2_W0QQitemZ130338996453QQcmd ZViewItemQQptZOther_MP3_Players?hash=item1e58cf40e 5 |

I tried the Sony active noise canceling earbuds, they don't work for me, but had very good sound. Stuck out too far for most people. Sony's ARE well made & sound good. I'm running these now, pretty good. http://www.complyfoam.com/noise-reduction-earphone s/ Or get their foam tips for a bud you like with good sound & fit under the helmet. Sure gets a lot of nods, but for all out top of the line try http://www.custommadeearphones.com/ The HD2000's have the wires routed best for helmet use, and are excellent for those crazed half helmet users, per some review I read, probably on bikernet. I'm getting them or the Sures, next. |

Go for the 'Ear fuze' that you mold at home, sound quality is OK and they don't move. I have a good bit of hearing loss and the ipod was cranked to be able to hear anything with speakers in helmets (Nolan flip, Scorpion exo700, Bell star). With the molded buds was able to use it at about half volume. Switched to bluetoothing my GPS (plays mp3 files) to a chatterbox xbi and it's at 7/10ths volume. They cut down outside sound by about 15 db too. Mold the upper section into the ear so it doesn't snag on the liner. And after hardening slowly put on the helmet. They don't irritate my ears after a whole day of riding in my exo700 (a very snug and close fitting helmet). Speakers in the helmet, even with a booster, were never loud enough above 50mph... |

I bought these on Amazon for $15. Adjustable fit, noise blocking, great base response, priced right. I can listen to music at normal volume levels and they stay in comfortably. V-MODA Bass Freq earbuds |
