What is decided in the board room should not drive differences between us who are on two wheels on the road.
Amen to that!

And maybe (pure speculation) it's partly because they can now build the XR1200X themselves that 'the decision' was made.

Some of the the reason they bought the Buell company in the first place - job done?

I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist usually but I wondered that myself!

The XR1200X is about 580-590 lbs. Great bike, but hardly a corner carver Buell is.

I DO still like a few of the harley designs... the XR1200 for example, the Nightster (hard on the ass, though), and something about that CVO Fat Bob is kinda' cool. But would I buy one? Nah. I can't even relate to the local sales guys... every last one of them has the Orange County mustache/goatee thing goin, and they either have long hair or bald, no in between. "Bikers" all 'round. That's just not my crowd.

i'm sorry but the xr doesn't really do anything for me. i'll keep the flhtcui because it's paid for and the only extra piece of chrome that i put on it is the extra rear light bracket that i still had from the 01 that i had. other than that i put all the navy emblems that they offered on it. but if push comes to shove and i have to let one go then that will be the first to go.

Yeah, that XR would be a nice bike to have, but it'll get it's ass kicked by even a street triple, forget the speed triple or even a 10 year old Bandit.

The XB's had handling and low weight, chassis stiffness, etc. The 1125 is just a modern design, on par with the competition.

The XR is nice, but hardly competitive in any respect.

Thing is, the XR isn't really selling either. I'd like to know how its numbers compare to a XB12Scg or SS

From a philosophical POV, I agree with that. But in a practical sense, controversial decisions have the tendency to polarize people.

I am an active member of several non-Buell sportbike forums. I've seen people, with no previous Buell-love, express some pretty nasty things about HD this week.

If I was in the business of selling motorcycles, I would be very sensitive to alienating a segment of riders and their $$
.

I agree Tpop. 100%. Harley went from being old and slow, with the a glimmer of performance hope two weeks ago to painting themselves into a niche corner.

They were really showing me they wanted to diviersify into a multitude of markets. Something they needed to grow.

The moves to dump Buell and MV is showing us how much trouble they really are in.

By not selling Buell, I really think they're showing they're leaving a door open for a re-entry into future markets.

I cannot find HorsePower ratings for any of the bikes on the HD site.
Those things must really sell on image after all.

You won't find HP ratings on most japanese manufacturers' sites either.

From the magazine tests, I think it's in the range of about 15 hp down from an XB, hard to remember exactly. Definitely more weight and less power than a Buell, I remember that.

It will not attract sport riders.

But you look like a badazz on them!! And all the chrome and leather tassles ya want!

Weekdays you're a pencil pushing office jockey. By the weekend, you're a badazz, take no guff fringe-clad bad mofo, scaring soccer moms like its going outta style.

" ..while waiting for erik to play up at hals during homecoming i asked him about the fxrt .. "

I take photos of every FXRT that comes in the shop for events, parts or a t-shirt. There is a loyal ownership out there. A group, www.AXL.com I think, races them regularly on teh Salt at Bonneville.

" ...Weekdays you're a pencil pushing office jockey. By the weekend, you're a badazz, take no guff fringe-clad bad mofo, scaring soccer moms like its going outta style.... "

My soccer van driving 130-lb wife put 28,000 miles on a Sportster before she could afford her dream bike, and now gladly knocks down 1,500 mile weekend trips on a Road King. That she has to dress professionally so she can't ride into work, and the mere fact that she works, makes her less a biker than you on your Buell, who likely has all the Power Ranger outfits but never spent a day on the track?

Come on people, hate the ruling on the field not the players.

I sell Buells as good as any dealer, we race them too. I see paussers on Buells and dedicated high mileage old school bikers on Harleys and I treat each of them the way they desire to be treated - respectfully and without precondition.

I don't blame HD for shutting down Buell. They did what they had to do to please their stockholders.

What I have a problem with is them not offering to sell Buell and coming up with some lame a$$ excuse as to why they couldn't. Anyone who works in a big corporate environment (as I do) knows that they could easily sell Buell. Heck, they could sell the rights to a single model if they wanted to. It's done all the time.

If Buell is losing money, they might not be able to sell it. It would be a cash-suck for some period of time.

Who would buy? Huge layoffs at the big four over the summer, they are sucking wind. Investment firms do not like companies that have a history of losses unless they see an easy and relatively quick way to turn it around and pull cash back out. You will never get bank financing in this market. It would be a challenge to move the Buell brand in the current economy.

I am speaking from the perspective of a layed off sell-side investment banker that was focused on the construction industry....I've seen the buyers and lenders disappear over the last few years in my niche, to the point that my company shut our entire department down.

Little off topic can you imagine the PR mess if they would have shut down MV at the same time. From a money stand point they could probably take an even bigger write off than they get from Buell. But the Europeans would have been screaming bloody murder.

"Who would buy?"

Maybe the same people who'd buy MV? Its for sale, for arguably more than Buell would go for.

" ..working at a dealership at times must be entertaining.. "

Depends on the day, or more so the customers. Since Thursday I am less tolerant of ignorance on any side of the Buell or H-D positions. Thank Dog I am home sick with the flu.

Bad thing is, I can't follow my favorite mantra to get over a bad altitude:
Shut up & Ride!

I only see a few people directing this toward the cruiser crowd. I think the majority of us are well aware that those who prefer that image didn't have anything at all to do with H-D's corporate decision.

I doubt very few H-D board members have assless chaps (well, maybe a few, but they probably have ball gags to go with them).

Power Ranger outfits help in a crash, bandanas and leather vests with lots of patches and fringes don't.

HD Bashing is not cool.
The guys that ride HD may have a different mind set then a typically Bueller, but that does not diminish them in any way.

If you have never hung around a bunch of HD riders (and you are in the USA), I suggest that you go to the Patriot Guard Riders web site:
http://www.patriotguard.org

find a mission near you, and go to it on your bike. There will be bikes from many manufacturers there, but the majority will be HD riders.

Burying a US Veteran - especially a young one, puts a lot of things into perspective.

"HD Bashing is not cool."

Really? So you believe that Buellers aren't going to get a shite storm of bashing rained down on them now when they attend HOG meetings, HOG group rides and when they go to their dealerships on Saturday mornings to buy parts or accessories??

Mostly when I get shait from someone else on a bike....it is from a pencil necked know nothing pimple faced squid...(not to detract from youngsters with skin conditions)...but it usually starts something like this..."Hey POPS...what you doin' with a sportbike?" followed by the ever popular "speed kills, ride a Harley, live forever" remark.

But by and large most bikers just want to ride and hang out and enjoy themselves. I know and have met all types of riders...from big scary looking ones with scary named rockers on ther jackets to the lawyer down the street with every chrome doodad possible on his road couch...kids, moms, older folks...all sorts appreciate riding...there is no line between ethnicity or race when it comes to bikers. Rich or poor...they ride either what they want or what they can afford at the moment.

There are a few snobs and idiots that I care not to meet...but I take time to appreciate others rides...from the 50 grand bling-mobiles to the nasty k model rat bike, more dirt and rust than bike.

Hog has some work to do...not only in development and business practices, but the way they interact with the public.

But I for one hope they succeed if for no other reason than to keep americans employed and to keep parts and service available for Jezebel. AND there are some really good folk that work at the local dealership that have gone out of their way to take care of me...would hate to see them in a soup line.

It's a bummer what happened to Buell...Erik's dream...the Elves dreams, and don't forget the suppliers, and distributors, and the guy that keeps your baby running...WE lost Buell...and that created a legend...and a responsibility to show the world that Buellers are ...well different...ride hard...and if you meet someone coming the other way on two wheels......WAVE.....it's ok now...they are doing the same thing you are...two wheels....in the wind.

Oh....and I just ordered myself one of those "power ranger" suits...in black and grey of course....brittle old bones need all the help they can get : )

Easy there slim!

After hearing all of the names the "crusier crowd" gets hung with
describing track gear as a "Power ranger" suit is not only funny but rather accurate,

Just like My comments about "The Village People" Face it the VP ride more sedately by and large so they tend to crash less, so they do not need to be ready to "power up" still giggeling about the PR's
Me I cant find gear that fits well, to clear my waist my arms need to be 6" longer
and my shoulders about the same, I basicaly look like a leather covered Umpa loopa, in my "safety gear"

I own chapps, great for wind protection and easy on / off operations. I also have an HD (think VP) jacket with the large Buell patch sewn on the back no fringes though
we all ride if the comments from the VP bother you buy your parts online and stay home.

Me I can laugh at myself and or others,

In the end My only concerns are that
1. I can obtain parts for the 1125 later
2. I can obtain warranty service for the next 22 months
3. I can get parts for my X1

The 1125 has many specialized parts and tools that are likely unique.

Hey Jammer Get well soon Till then enjoy the circus
