I don't ride a Buell, but have been quite tempted. I keep a close eye on the Buell goings-on at the local dealership. Today was an eye-opener. The local dealer, Augusta Harley-Davidson, Augusta, Ga, has an MV Agusta Brutale and I went to see it. While there I drooled over the Buells....then noticed the prices. A new 1125cr $7995! The rest were similar. They are getting rid of them at bargain prices. They also informed me that they are getting out of the Buell business. They just can't find buyers for the bikes, nor dealers who want the inventory. If you are interested check them out at www.augustahd.com Though you might like to know. |

Nah, fatty will get a hold of that dealership and next thing ya know, all those bikes they can't get rid of will be at Bumpus, getting sold to US with smoking deals... |

That'd be great for everyone. I just hate to see the support for Buell dying in the area. Further, I am not sure of the technical support here either. I think they work on them just fine, but sales.....forget it. I wonder how many others have purchased Buells and had the dealership quit their support shortly after the sale? Has to be disheartening? Will Buell ever have their own dealerships? Just kinda sad really....kinda like so many of the Triumph dealerships closing. |

They also informed me that they are getting out of the Buell business. They just can't find buyers for the bikes I don't know this dealer but he will likely be saying the same thing about the MV Agusta's in a couple of years! |

Got that right, especially at 17k a pop for a Brutale and 25k for F4 |

Those MV prices are in the ducati range of pricing. Might be a tough sell with lower discretionary spending levels. Bartimus, with all due respect to fatty, his numbers would likely be higher than just buying from the above dealer direct. Though that post makes no mention of that being out the door/on the road price. I may just see what deals they'd do on 2 or 3 bikes. |

I think the Brutale was a trade-in. I doubt they'll entertain a new line anytime soon. They just recently began to take non-Harley trades. |

Well I was going to say something about Augusta HD and Buells, but decided nothing I said would be overly nice, so I wont. While I hate to see another dealer stop selling Buells, this one never really got it in the first place. |

I will say this for Augusta HD/Buell, I stopped in about 3 years ago, and they appeared to be making an effort to sell Buells at that time. They had at least 3 Ulys in stock (one displayed right in the entrance), they actually had a display board of Uly specific accessories including factory and non-factory (!) items. They even had some Buell patches in stock which I bought. I guess their effort was short-lived. |

Yeah, the salesman that really pushed/liked the Buells has moved on. I don't know if the lack of Buell sales had anything to do with it. The Uly's they had in stock stayed there quite awhile. The 1125s seem to never move either. They made a middling effort at the "dealership w/i a dealership" but, never focused it well. When Buell had their give-aways I had to travel to Atlanta or Athens to participate. But, on-the-other-hand if you wanna chromed out, slow-moving, over-priced, land yacht then hey they have those in spades. |

You know the golden rule could apply here tremendously. If these HD dealers would just treat Buell riders as well as they do their main business in HD, and not like some red headed stepchild, things just might get them more business in these times of economic downturn. They first have to care about all riders and not just their similar "life style" customers. It has proven to work at many HD/Buell dealers around the country and it shows. Thanks much to all those dealers. Bob |

The problem isn't necessarily how they are treated once they get in the door. It's also about getting them in the door in the first place. A dealer depending on walk in traffic for Buell sales will starve to death. Successful Buell sales (and a successful Buell dealer) can't be dependent upon "the salesman who liked Buells". It must be a top to bottom attitude including sales, parts, service, and accessories. The buyer for a Buell must be marketed to differently than the buyer of a HD. If you fish for trout with a bass lure, you will go hungry. |

>>>The buyer for a Buell must be marketed to differently than the buyer of a HD. Precisely why I wrote "9 Ways to Sell a Buell" in 1997. Likely more relevant today than then yet they still have the same "motivational speakers" (all ex HD employees) preaching to dealers every year at the dealer meeting. |
