Any recommendations on a downloadable, free program to help cleanup my computer. Among other popups and such, I am getting these audible ads that just start playing out of the blue on my computer. I have to turn off my sound. That is way too over the top for me. THanks. |

I run Nod32 on all my computers. You can get a 30 day free trial. http://www.eset.com/ I'm sure I'm not the first nor will I be the last to strongly recommend keeping a current subscription to a good internet security program - whatever flavor you choose. |

Spybot is good as well but what ever you choice install it and update your virus scanner program. Then reboot your computer into "Safe Mode" and run a full system scan with both the virus scan and what ever ad removal program you choice. In safe mode the crap can't reinstall itself like in can in normal mode. Once all the adware is gone get a fire wall and stay off "Those" sites! Also do a Microsoft update monthly. |

Once you get cleaned up, set your self up on an restricted rights (limited) account. You instantly eliminate 85% of your computers security vulnerabilities that way, and prevent malware from infesting it in the first place. |

THanks guys. I am sure with all of your suggestions this crap will be gone in no time. anyone use kapersky (sp?). Our company uses it for virus protection and I don't know if it is a spyware killer as well. Knowing my company, I am sure it is a free program. |

I used it for a while, went to Malwarebytes and Spybot, changed browser to Firefox and always have a prompt before accepting third party cookies. Have had no problems since dropping IE7 and changing email from Outlook Express to my ISP's hosted email. Kapersky worked but it was too costly to buy after the trial.. something in me had a problem buying a Russian program, guess I was not over the Cold War thing yet... |

+1 on this thread. Xbpete, with firefox get the plugin "web of trust" (rates sites and blocks/warns you before going to infested sites. Also ad block plus as well. I use a combo of Malwarebytes, Spybot Search and Destroy and Adaware. Where one might miss something, the other 2 will grab it. |
