Tortoise - You have to look at the big picture. In our industry the market is down 45% of what it was last year. That is a matter of fact that is out of the control of management. If I was a Buell employee the last thing I would want them to do is reduce our exposure in the market. That would just reduce the chance of sales preventing this two months from being extended to four. In times like these it is important to control what you can control, and manage the best you can things you can not control. Considering options Buell could have taken, they have done the best they can for their employees. |

Harry, I didn't find the deer hunting post funny or poorly thought out. I remember when I was in high school in WI during the recession in the 80's. My dad filled his tag that year, and a freezer full of venison was a great counterpoint to day-old bread and five pound blocks of welfare cheese. We were still able to eat well that winter. What I thought was a "Wouldn't it be nice" thread, now looks like it's getting off of the ground? Sweet! Court comes through again! Never let it be said that I don't remember where I came from. Pencil me in for $300 too. |

There are a lot of good Badwebbers out there, who, like myself know how hard it is to be laid off during the Holidays, now we have a chance to say thank you for building our bikes, and know that such a thank you - no matter how small will be appreciated in this holiday season. I ride some of the best bikes ever built, and its all because of the work and dedication of these folks - the Buell employee. I know that my bikes have brought me happiness in the ride, in the new friends I have found, and in the new vistas that I have experienced. My skills have grown and my enjoyment of life as well has blossomed. Buells had a great part in improving my life, a small thank you, at least, is definitely deserved. How about it folks? I'm sure you feel the same way! Lets show them! EZ |

In the long run, Buell and HOG management needs to get their act together or the elve's "holiday" may become permanent. If Buell is down to selling 10 bikes a day like Court says, that's an over 75% drop in sales. Most of the industry is down 10 or 20%, so it's obvious that Buell's products and service aren't competitive. The only long term solution that will keep the elves working is for Buell to improve the product's reliability and pricing while replacing the bad dealers with good ones. |

>>>If Buell is down to selling 10 bikes a day Strictly hypothetical to illusrtate the folly of overproduction. I should have used "down to 68 from 70". Of 74 manufacturers (again working from memory . . you can look it up and confirm or make a fool of me) Buell is one of the top 4 . . their sales have held up better than most but the entire economy is in the tank. |

"If the fortunate few want to donate money, that is great, but you ain't getting sympathy from me." Mr.Robb ...I am truly sorry that you have gone through a rough time financially.....however I was extremely discouraged that you made such a statement as that. My concern is that you may have hurt peoples feelings, that you do not know at all and they do not know you.... It is fine if you do not want to contribute to the Buell people,...I can't right now either......however then just leave it be....... I know now I may have opened myself up to some email abuse from you and typically I do not say anything controversial on this web site... I typically just talk about a rides and Buell get togethers... and say hi to a few people. However lately I have noticed on this web site that there are a few people that have lost any sort of civility with each other. Take care, Lynn |

Hi. Been watching this board for some time now and haven't had anything to contribute until now. I've owned 2 bikes, both of them Buells, and I can only say that they have added a new dimension to life. I would be glad to help. |

I too have been laid off of a great job. It sucks. I will gladly help out with what I can. I know that without my M2 my stress level would be HUGE, the M2 helps me get rid of the work stress that comes with working in a hospital, it makes it possible for me look forward to going to work in the morning, just that simple fact is worth the effort to help the "elves" out in these trying times. I am in! M2Statz |

I admire the generosity of you guys/gals. Amazing sense of giving. Is there any chance of expanding this to help fellow BWer's who also lost their jobs?? |

Im in, I have a feeling this HealthCare thing is gonna go through and then I am back in the benefits biz. If you cant beat them, bilk them for all they are worth. I would be happy to send some windfall to E Troy. (I would even purchase a new shiny dirt bike in the 400-500cc range to help with their bottom line) |

> Maybe you have numbers regarding how much Buell spent on its recent advertising campaign vs. how much they are saving by the planned layoff. Slashing advertising and new development is the worst thing a struggling company can do. It's like spending your money on some fish instead of a fishing rod. I've always said the best thing about Buell is the community, and I'd be happy to donate. |

>>>Is there any chance of expanding this to help fellow BWer's who also lost their jobs?? That's a lot more challenging and it would dilute the effectiveness of our aim to show support for the Buell factory folks. Not saying it couldn't be done, but our ability to ensure the integrity of the effort becomes exponentially more difficult with every different venue. How do you ensure that those claiming need really are in fact in need? If only everyone on the planet was honest. Can you imagine the problems that would be solved instantly? <sigh> So, sadly, the answer to your question is "no." That said, I hope from here on out we can all avoid any negative commentary. This just isn't the place for it. Thanks to Court we're already in process of setting up a proper system for the effort. Kristie? You available? More later. |

We took up a collection after today's ride, and got $200 from the gang. Just let us know where to send it. Not much in the scope of things, but we're going to keep taking collections for the factory folks at every ride we do until they're back on the job. Thanks to all you badwebbers for getting this going!
