Sticking with the car theme... What was the first car that you bought? I got a two-fer 1976 AMC Gremlin and 1977 Jeep J-10 pick up. The J-10 was what I was really after but the Blaze Orange Gremlin turned out to be a zippy car. |

1978 Mazda RX-3 It had a rotary engine and was a old SCCA race car. It came with a roll bar and 3" racing lap belt. Wasn't much to look at, but sure was fun to drive. |

1963 Chevy Corvair Monza Spyder Turbo. IIRC I paid $150 for it at a used car lot in ~1972. Unfortunately it had been de-turboed at some point and was ragged out pretty badly. It was still a fun little car for a while; I sold it about a year later for $150. It would have been a neat car to restore. |

1967 Dodge Power Wagon 4x4 with 1 ton running gear, a 318 V8, and 39" mud tires. All lift was provided by extra springs (9 per wheel!) so the tiniest pothole felt like you just drove off a cliff. Got a whoppin' 8 mpg. It was orange, and I installed an air horn that played "Dixie", just like the General Lee. Back then, I even had the mullet to match! (thank GOD I grew out of that phase!) ~SM |

A 1979 Mustang II 4 speed. Was a fun little car but not much power. Did not handle the winter well. |

my first car i bought was a 84 honda crx Holy crap, that was the first car I bought too. I ran the snot outta that thing back and forth between home and Ft. Bragg. I kinda miss that old thing and wish they made something like them now.... I think one of those would make a good first car for my daughter that turns 16 next year. First car I had was a hand me down '76 pos Honda accord hatchback. |

1991 Pontiac Grand Am LE Coupe - believe it or not, a pretty rare car. Once in a while you'll see maybe ONE on ebay, and that's about it. QUAD-4 H.O. engine and a 5 speed... 180hp stock from a 4 cyl in 1991 - that car was pretty quick. |

My first car was pretty rare, too; a 1981 Dodge Mirada with a pumpin' good stereo and a 318 V8 with 130 fire-breathing horsepower! (Remember when emissions controls included belt-driven air pumps?) It was a sharp looking car; the previous owner had lowered the front end, giving it a more aggressive look. It came with set of spoke wheels, but after my friends started calling it the "pimp mobile", I sprung for a set of sharp-looking aluminum and chrome mags. The name stuck, however. It was pretty hard on the wallet for a teenager, with 18 mpg and many repairs over the 5 years I drove it, including a water pump, fuel pump, carburetor, radiator, thermostat, a bent rear axle (my fault - opposite lock on a public road - stupid, but I learned a lot), crunched driver's side door (same reason, different time), lots of rear tires, u-joints and a stripped rear differential (peeling out), and ultimately a shattered overrunning clutch (slamming it into gear - I hate automatics). I literally beat the sh!# out of it, but I always fixed it. Many lessons in what teen aggression does to the pocket book. |

The first car I bought on my own was a 1997 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. It had only 32k miles on it, and was in darn near perfect condition. Now it sits pretty in my garage, only comes out when it is sunny and dry, so we can go V8 hunting. *Done a little tuning* |

In 1972 I bought a 1966 Pontiac Le Mans. It was navy blue and I painted it a bright blue with a heavy metal flake. The rocker panels and back panel were painted flat black. It looked great! It had a 326 V-8, front bucket seats and ran pretty good. I traded it for a 68 GTO, big mistake. I kept the GTO less than 6 months because it cost so to keep on the road. |

first car: 1973 Nova SS midnight blue. 350 4 barrel, 350 turbo with shift on the floor, 3.73 posi rear. my dad bought it brand new. by the time he gave it to me the body was all but shot from being his work car. i ended up letting it sit around for a few more years and stripping it for parts on other projects(still have the rearend sitting in the shed just waiting) i only got to drive it once and i was 13(drove by myself from where it was sitting at my aunts to our new house) it'd been sitting for 2 years. i eased it out on to the blacktop, stopped, and mashed it to the floor. she roasted the tires(big old snow tires) all the way into third. i think my already existing hopped up toy problem, was kicked into overdrive right then and there! first car i bought: when i was 14. 1984 mustang. peach colored outside and inside!(whats even funnier is that the car i spent leanring to drive in when i was growing up was a peach colored ford pinto) blacked the mustang out as much as i could to make it not so bad, put black wheels on it with some wide meats all the way around. but hey, for $300 what do ya expect. 6 cylinder auto on the floor, but dad and i messed with it a bit and it was a decent runner for what it was. man i beat that thing to death and back! it finally met its end at well over 100mph when i caught a deer in mid air as it jumped out of the ditch. shoved the radiator back to the block, buckled the hood into a nice ramp and LAUNCHED that deer. my bumper was still straight but everything above it was a freaking mess. it killed the car and damn near stopped it where we hit. i still remember that impact. i also broke the catches out of the steering column and bent the steering wheel when i hit it(no seatbelt) bruised my chest. i got out, realized i was screwed and it was dumping all its fluids. i was late for curfew and only a couple miles from home with a destroyed car. i got back in, hit the key, she fired up and i made it home without blowing it up. its the only vehicle ive ever sent to the junkyard, but it still managed to load its self on the trailer. that lead the way for my toyota supra... sorry for rambeling, some of the questions that get asked on here jog memories that havent surfaced for years. |

'73 VW Superbeetle, back when me and all my buddies were customing them out. My grandpa bought it for me immediately after I totalled my Suzuki TS125RS (the RS was all my speed mods ). IIRC, he bought it for +-$1600, I sold it for $2600. My favorite car of all time was my '78 280Z 2+2. Wish I could find/afford another cherry one of those... |
