Who cares, the big news is the Lions losing streak has come to an end at 19 games. To me this means one thing, The Browns are now the worst team in football. Even when the Lions couldn't win a game in 19 tries, at least they could get in the endzone. These Browns tho....wow. |

I'd suggest you go to a football forum and start talking about motorcycles then. |

Well, under normal circumstances, I would offer up my annual prediction of a Steeler's superbowl, but it appears my steel city brethren are content at six trophies given their performance thus far. |

Personally, if the Steelers have a bad year, I will still be a fan. I've been rooting for them since 1965, the year my older brother made me 'pick' a team. I wish I could find the 'Terrible Towel' I had back in the late '70's. Seems like it was lost in a move somewhere along the line. If someone took all of my Steeler T shirts, sweat shirts, jackets, and all of my Buell shirts and jackets, I would not have much left but jeans and formal stuff. Oh, my brother.....is and always has been a Browns fan..... (Message edited by etennuly on September 28, 2009) |

And that makes a Pittsburgh pick all the more perfect. My father, being born and raised in Pittsburgh and all but one member of his immediate family living there means that I was born into this. I, too, will remain a fan. |

So what you're saying is even if the Steelers don't go to the super bowl this year to defend their title, you'll still be fans? Wow, a couple of real die hard fans you guys are. |

I just don't think I've ever heard someone say "even if my team doesn't go back to the superbowl this year, I'll still be a fan." Why wouldn't you be, you're a real fan right? That is the problem with a winning team, bandwagon fans. I'm still trying to figure out what happened to all those cowboy fans and especially the millions of Chicago Bulls fans that have disappeared since the 90's. Should the Lions ever put a run together of a few superbowls or whatever and I start seeing people wearing Lions gear, they will be called out. (Message edited by Badlionsfan on September 28, 2009) |

Bad - I think the point more was that we'd remain fans through the bad and not just hop off when the going gets tough. I can't claim i've been rooting for them since 1965 as I still had 18 years to go before I was born, but I assure you I've been rooting for them long before this most recent winning streak. I see where you're coming from, I just think it was misinterpreted. |

Yeah it just struck me as funny, matter of perception I guess. If the lions ever win the superbowl, I sure won't be complaining about what they're doing after 3 games the following season, as I'd still be riding high from the superbowl win. Just to give ya some perspective, a slow start to a season after winning 2 superbowls in a few seasons isn't "hard times as a fan". Not winning a title since 1957, never playing in a superbowl and winning 1 playoff game in the 30 years I've been alive is hard times. |

Exactly! Sometimes I get pissy with people who see me wearing a Steeler shirt, make a comment like "How about those Steelers!", when they win a Superbowl, and I'm like Yeah, where were you last year? To further my point, in 1965, the Steelers didn't look like they would ever be much better than the Lions or the Browns have ever been. In the '70's I knew the names of all of the players on my team. I watched all of the televised games. I tried to attend a couple over the years, could never get tickets, even when I lived in Tampa and they came to visit for preseason, the whole stadium was sold out to Steeler fans. Even the scalpers couldn't get tickets. I heard both Buccaneer fans were there(pre new uniforms and owners). Spending my first twenty some years in NW Pa, the home team influence is part of me. Outside influences after I moved away, kept me too busy to follow football for years. Hell, when they won their fifth SuperBowl, I learned about it in a supermarket, because I was wearing one of my Steeler shirts and someone made a comment. I don't get to follow football much any more, in part because of my Buell, but my big concern is changing or loosing my wardrobe! About mid season or so, let me know how they are doing, OK? I gotta go ride! |

There is something kinda liberating about being the fan of a god-aweful team. Having been born in DC I will always be a Skins fan to the core. But many years years ago when the Saints were almost painful to even look at (Archie Manning days), I started to root for them. Now that they have gotten to be a decent team I need to find another sad sack bunch to root for. I'm thinking either the Raiders or the Browns may just be the next team for me. They both look like they may be doormats for a long long time. |

Cleveland was awarded a franchise by the NFL when the Browns moved to Baltimore. However, that put them in the position of having to create an entirely new team out of thin air. |

Well... the funny thing was I watched Beverly Hills Cop Friday Night. I saw Eddie sportin the Lions Jacket and thought... Hmmm... You don't see those anymore! Then BOOM they win. I think they should play that movie every weekend then they might just put together a winning season!!!!! And for the record, The KC Chiefs are now the worse team in Football. (From a long time fan) Funny thing, last game the Lions won? Chiefs!!! Put that in your pipe and smoke it! |

Hey Bad, I saw many fair weather fans when the Packers started winning again in the 90's. I hope the Lions have turned the corner. The only time I don't pull for them is when Green Bay plays them. |

Packers don't look as good as they did preseason. Rodgers is holding on to the ball way to long. 11 seconds was the longest yesterday and then sacked. The team no doubt has the talent but they need to pull it together. Next Monday they face Favre with Vikings. If they don't pull it together Favre is going to get his next record. The only player to beat all NFL teams. Then he also gets to Stick it to Thompson.... we'll see. I hope the pack get it together. The offense just needs work. |

It's a very long, sweeping corner and the Lions have just entered it. The new guys running the front office that replaced Millen really seem to have a clue, and from what I've read the culture in the organization is better than it has been in years. Now we just sit back and see what goes wrong this time around. |

Sayitaintso you was a fan of my saints just because they sucked what kinda BS is that? Well if you like sucky teams why not go for your redskins again since they get to be the first team in over a year to loose to the lions. I am a Big Saints fan win or loose and right now they are doing a hole lot of winning. Now I just hope they can beat the whole state of NY ( 1 down 2 too go) |

Bads1 Posted on Monday, September 28, 2009 - 05:00 pm: Packers don't look as good as they did preseason. Now that's funny. IIRC the Lions went 4-0 last year, then went 0-16. Back when the Rams won the superbowl they went 0-4 in the preseason. Preseason means nothing in the NFL. No one shows more than a few pages of their play book. Basically the games are just a watered down practice session. |

Badslionfan, Where do you get that?? It means nothing to the fans maybe. It means plenty to the teams. Should really rethink that. Packers have some BIG talent in there. They are favored along with the Vikings to win the division. What they need is to pull it together. We'll see what happens is all. |

All I mean is no matter how the preseason goes, it doesn't always transfer to the regular season. I think I gave two examples of that. Offenses don't dig deep into their play book, and typically defenses don't show much in the way of coverage schemes and especially blitz packages. Preseason is really used for talent evaluation for the bottom half of the depth chart, except in the case where you have an open competition for a starting position. Coaches are looking at how players do things, without showing too much of their play books. I guess I'm saying when it comes to preseason results, take it with a grain of salt. |

Firebolt020283 ..... You misunderstood what I was saying. I'll always be a Skins fan, never stopped. The part about being a Saints fan was that I went the anti-bandwagon route. I picked a team that was on hard times (30+ years ago) and stuck with them as a fan when hardly anyone else was. Now that the Saints are doing well and have all the looks of doing so for a long time, it seems like another team needs someone other local die hards to root for them. If that rubs you the wrong way....oh well. |
