Well my dears, Madame Grumpy has just got a new job, this means that after 11 years of living in my little corner of paradise, I'm going to have to clear out the garage & rationalise the transport, as the new job is on the other side of the country. Downsides, I'm going to have to find some work when we get there. Leaving some good friends here. My old Dodge D100 will have to go along with the 2 cars to be replaced with something else. Upsides, I get to buy more vehicles, probably a small 4x4 crossover thing for madame, & a 4x4 Dakota Quad-cab for me. Anyone got experience of 4.7 Magnum motors? I've not been able to find one with a 5.2 which is a pity cos I love the 318. We're heading East to near the Swiss border close by Geneva. That won't mean much to most of you, but if you can imagine living at the foot of the Smoky Mountains & able to see the Rockies 40 miles away, you'll be not far off. At least I'll get some even wear out of the tyres, lol. All this is going to happen end of this year/early next, so busy times ahead.  | ||

Sounds like you are not being 'dragged' off in too bad of a manor!  Not like being jerked off the couch and landing in a different county. I hope it all works out well with the new jobs. You have nailed my position from the Smoky Mountains. The shortest routes have me about twenty miles out and the famous rides are about fifty. I think you will love that part. Will be 20 mins from Geneva airport. I've driven some of the roads round there in the car & in a rig. Can't wait to get a bike up through the passes. Wifey was all concerned that I'd be unhappy there, but I couldn't hide the grin. Then she hit me. There's quite a big French/Swiss Buell contingent round those parts, so I'll not be lonely. | ||

I think Id take anything over a dodge except for maybe a GM model. The Ford edge looks like an interesting crossover. Plus Ford doesnt need government money for sucking so hard. | ||

Moving to a new area can be fun and certainly gets a person out of the rut...I only had a 4.7 in a ext. cab dakota for about 30,000 miles but loved the truck and the motor. Plenty of power in the hills, and being a 4X2 made it a gas to drive there, and pretty decent gas mileage as well. Car salesman made sure I didn't get to keep it though by shorting the turn entering the car wash...Nice truck regardless. | ||

I can pick up a 4x4 Ram with a 5.2/318 in it no prob or a 4x2 Dakota with a 5.2 but if I want 4x4 in a Dakota it seems that only 4.7 is available. I know jack about these motors but I've been playing with 318 & 360 smallblocks for a quarter of a century now. The Ram would be nice but it's a bit big for European towns & villages, the Dakota is about right size wise, & if I get one with a stick, the wife can drive it too. | ||

i can hear how depressed you are over this grumpy. congrats on the wifes new job, i hope she does good with it and i hope you like your new location. never got out of italy when we spent 3 months in drydock in naples back in 78 but did get to see some of the north when i went on a weekend ski trip. wish i would have taken more advantage of it. and after being in florida for well over 25 years i'm ready to move again to that smokey mountain area and right now i couldn't finish up my house soon enough in the hopes that that the market changes and i can get a decent penney for it. congrats and good luck. maybe someday i'll have a chance to get back over there. | ||

Well I now have to get the M2 sorted so it can be moved, therefore there'll be a bike for visitors to ride. | ||

From personal experience. I will never buy another Dodge with a Magnum series engine in it. A completely different animal from the older LA series 318. Now if that 4.7 is the newer Hemi go for it. | ||

Many reasons Froggy, going to need 4x4 for the winter there, plus the old D100 has power nothing & I'd like some comfort in my daily driver, plus it's time for a change anyway. |
