This is "Alert" for all of you people who don't have a hand gun.

You can buy two cans of wasp spray...one for your night stand and one for the glove compartment of your car.

I have a friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area of town who was concerned about someone coming into the church office on Monday to rob her while in the process of counting the collection from the previous day.

She asked the local police department about using pepper spray . . . and it was recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead. The wasp spray, they explained, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray the criminals would have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote.

She now keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn't attract attention like a can of pepper spray would.

She also keeps one nearby at home for home protection.

Thought this very simple anti-crime device was interesting . . . and might be of use to my many friends.

I am a sicko . . . the first thing that came to mind was a wasp in a Nomex suit armed with pepper spray.

Or you could be like the Hopkins student this weekend, who took off a robbers' hand causing him to bleed to death...after he lunged at the kid, who was holding a *samurai sword*.

Saw it on the news this AM. I'm sure it's on Baltimore paper webpages around somewhere...

Who lunges *at* someone who's holding a freakin' SWORD?

My brother, years ago, sprayed some of that at me. Holy crap! I was blind! I couldnt see to find my way to the sink! I dont think he realized how far that thing can spray. He felt bad but I felt worse. My eyes are watering just thinking about it!

Pepper spray can be had in long distance spray systems too. The bear defense spray variety comes to mind.

I keep a big old can of "whoop-ass" in my purse. Ha Ha Ha. Of course you have to get pretty close to use it. But once it's open...watch out!

Better off with a gun.
My uncle used to say: "It's better to be tried by 12 than carried by six. "And a dead man tells no tales..."

How about a taser? You can buy one at a pawn shop and they have a pretty good range. I tried to get one for my daughter when she started dating, but my husband wouldn't let me. He knows she's alot like her mother, half the boys in town would have had roasted nuts.

He won't let me have a gun either, I can't imagine why....

Learn how to do four things....practice, practice, practice...

A: Scream as loud as you can so anyone in hearing range can hear..."OH PLEASE DON'T KILL ME!!!"

B: Remember to take the safety off your weapon at the first hint of trouble...

C: Double tap...front side only...if you miss center of mass, keep firing and keep screaming...remember you are in fear for your life.

D: The body must be inside the building structure.

That is all.

Actually around here (CA) bear spray is less concentrated than the weapon spray intended for use on people. Don't want to hurt the little bears you know. Also their much more sensitive and we don't want to hurt their feelings either.

Now that I think of it the pepper spray intended for bears may best be used by spraying your "buddy" thus spicing him up a bit, making him a more attractive meal than you are.

Under VERY specific conditions that are Very hard to meet assuming you know them all.

I recently arrested a guy for just having a "stun gun" next to him on his patio.

Seriously, you're using a chemical product in violation of its labeling. That's against the law. You spray it on someone and injure them, and you will lose when you get sued, doesn't matter what the circumstances were. People get sued successfully by thieves who hurt themselves while committing burglary, why do you think this lawsuit wouldnt' stick?

I'd have to say I prefer a gun. You may laugh, but I think it's more humane.
Used on humans, Wasp/Hornet sprays can have a similar effect to chemical agents.
We are talking about self defense here, of course, so f*** it, I'll use whatever's at hand. Just prefer not using chemical agents.
Besides, it'll look funny taking the aerosol cans to the range...
