You know the story...In my effort to get to know my fellow Buelligians...I ask this question...What if your favorite muscle car? I have two...1968 Shelby GT350 and the 1970 Chevelle SS(of which I used to own one, a convertible no less) Thanks for sharing! |

Muscle cars are tough - so many good ones, and ones that were insanely popular, and then those that to this day don't really have much of a following. For me, top of my list would be a 67-68 Camaro Z/28. After that, the mid-late 60's Buicks and Oldsmobiles are piquing my interest these days, |

1971 Plymouth Roadrunner: We had a 1971 Plymouth Satellite which was actually a pretty cool car; first Chrysler product my Dad ever owned. The 71 Hemi Roadrunner would have been the ultimate for me. |

I am a real fan of what has been done to my favorite three. The new mustang, the new Challenger, the new Camaro. I either owned, worked on,rode in, or borrowed each of the original ones back in the day. No doubt they were fast and powerful. But they all lacked refinement, durability, sophistication, and quality. They had bad tires, bad brakes, handled like a brick on flip-flops. They were lucky to still be running after 60,000 miles with proper care, and if less than eight miles per gallon was good for you, go ahead, get the horsepower options. My wife has an '05 Mustang with a V6 auto. It has more usable power than all but the most powerful 302 versions in factory form from '69. And it will out handle and out stop, even the best packages available back then. All of this, while getting 21 to 28 MPG that the most economical six cylinder package couldn't attain. And you are riding in air conditioned comfort, with little wind noise, and a stereo system with power that could not be obtained in your home system back then. And it rides smoother, has fewer warranty problems, doesn't squeek and rattle. All the more impressive story, knowing that I am now, and always have been a 'Government Motors' owner and fan. If I don't get another Vette, I will have one of those new Camaros. |

My first choice would be a 1970-1971 Plymouth Barracuda, convertible of course! Maybe Plum Crazy or Look-At-Me-Lime... Second would be a 1965-1966 Ford Mustang Convertible. |

Loved, What year is that Z28? '70 1/2? '71 maybe? I had a '71 RS with that front bumper grille arrangement for 8 1/2 years. It went through 4 engines, 2 transmissions, 3 rear ends, five tickets, two court appearances, and all of my money back then!(glad that's over). Lots of time at the drag strips. Oh so many rear tires! I had one of those'67 El Caminos too. POS, 6cyl, powerglide, no options at all. A lot of work to drive on a hot day! Get it near rain it would quit running! My two most favorite...owned em both 1971 Chevelle with an LS7/T400...what a tire roaster!!! 1966 Chevy II "shoebox" 327/M20...the original "drift" car...lol. Close to my faves...bud had a 440 wedge Cuda...and another had a Boss 429 'stang. Poor 'stang couldn't win a street race...it would sit there and fry tires while the competition went down the road.. Shame that in spite of it all, there are stock 3.0 liter cars today that would chew the old school cars up and spit em out.. That smoke and thunder sure was fun though. |

The 1987 Buick Grand National sitting in my garage is my favorite...I might be a little biased though. I would be down to say the Grand National Experimental is my favorite, but I've only seen a handful of the 547 made. So the GN is more "real" to me. |

I don't have a GNX Doughnut, I only WISH I did. My '87 is a plain ole GN. Looks like GNX423 has one of 'em as well. Looks like an '86 in the profile picture. Am I right? I am also a fan of the old Buick 455 GS. ***EDIT - Forgot to answer you, no T-Tops, I wanted to drag race the car so I didn't get one with T-Tops because of the already present C-Pillar Cracks on hard tops. I've seen some GNs that with bad owners who never took the time to brace the back seat or get the suspension right and have massive cracks at the top of the C-Pillars. My first, legal, registered car. '67 Camaro. By the time I got it, it was pretty much used up, but somewhere along the line, somebody put a 396 in it with a 4-speed. I immediately spray-painted a skull and crossbones on the hood and proceded to piss off most of the neighborhood. Oh, and I worked at a tire shop back then and had all the junk take-offs I could ever need. Talk about smoke shows in the high school parking lot. |

What about Novas with hopped-up motors and jacked-up ass-ends? They weren't my favorite, didn't own one, but had lots of stupid-fun in 'em. These were the small-block-chevys of muscle cars in-fact during my '68-'75 era. |

I had an '85 El Camino SS, Choo Choo Customs deal. 'HO 305' meant not much, plush ride, looked oh so cool, but no where near a hot rod. I worked at a Buick dealership bodyshop when those GN's were new. I drove a bunch of them, to me they felt like my SS El Camino, but they were quicker. At that time I had an '82 Z28 that I bought wrecked and rebuilt. I put my last race car engine in it, 327 that put out about 420 hp at 8,000 rpm, with a 4 speed muncy, so cool to be doing 25 mph jump on the gas and light them up! Otherwise it was nearly worthless on the street! Although living in Florida at the time it did drift the 'on ramps' really well. Not as fast in the corners as the Vette's I had at the time, but actually more fun. I gotta get some time to scan some pictures from my old photo albums into my 'puter. I have an '87 Firebird Formula 350 that is soon going to be up to be back in my shop to be finished. I have a nice 406 going in there. Hmmmmm.....that came out of my CJ7, Mebby that will get a 350 next time. Owning these damn Buell's, and being on BadWeB too much has taken up almost all of my project time, what to do? Oh yeah, if that is a '70 1/2 Z, it has the wrong decklid spoiler. Love those Hemi Road Runners(any year). (Message edited by etennuly on September 23, 2009) |
