A massive dust storm swept over Brisbane today. It had come up the coast from Sydney and also outward from inner Australia. It cast an eerie feeling over the city (and near choked it to death). I thought I'd share some pics... This is the jetty nearest our place
and the jetty across the bridge where we used to live
the inner city story bridge
Central Brisbane
umm..a tree
and some flowers-bouganvillea
and a local private aviation field.
The city was on stand-by to shut down airports and such, but it has started to blow over. Now to dust everything off! |

Wow! That'll put grit in your teeth and pack your eye sockets with mud! The interesting thing is the perspective of those pictures you took. Nature has a phenomenal way of giving you a spectacular back drop. Good job. |

Y'all got dust, we got water. I guess that makes us extremists? Hope y'all get normal soon, looks like it could be a real mess. |

It was quite eerie riding home from work last night, like a scene from some post-apocalypse movie. Woke up (late!) this morning to blue skies and sunshine as if it had never happened except for a really fine coating of red dust on everything. Weather here at the moment is all over the place - drought and water restrictions for the last few years, then heaps of rain in June/July which is normally dry season, cold in July, then we had hottest August day on record at 35°C, and now hitting mid 30's (°C) some days which we normally don't see until November, then a dust storm... WTF? I heard on the radio this morning that water restrictions have been lifted to allow for clean up |

It was pretty cool to see, but horrible job to try and breathe. Cyclists around the city were wearing masks to ride. You couldn't see past the block you were driving on. Chili is right...beautiful clear day today, but just a fine coating of red on everything. We had concreters trying to lay a garage slab in our front yard all day-poor guys. Everyone else around the city were out in full force with cameras in hand. |
