Buell is going to have a quarter of its workforce laid off during the holiday, due to the economy - I understand. Is there a fund or something started to help them through the holidays - thats a really lousy time to collect 60% - if lucky - on unemployment. The maker's of our favorite bike could use some elves themselves it seems. EZ |

After being out of work for almost a year, I am still making my Buell payment. Does that count? |

Really - that was exactly what I was thinking - I just don't know where I could send the money to. I know I couldn't enjoy a race victory knowing a 1/4 of my back up was laid off during the holidays. I'm sure some kind of plan must be in place, surely mr. 20yr/100yr plan guy has a plan in place for such simple adversity. Just where do we send the money? EZ |

I guess Ruthless is the new Buell moto. EZ You act as though Buell is enjoying doing this to their workers, I am sure they aren't happy about it. I am sure they have their reasons for it.} |

I think that may not be a productive use of their abilities. Instead perhaps that 600cc Blast would nice - lol - but still this doesn't help those good people. EZ |

Sorry, but My '09 is paid for, and I was laid off from HD in May. My dad works at Capitol Dr, and he gets 4 months off this year, and his future with HD won't last through 2010. Times are tough, yeah, but they are tough all over. If the fortunate few want to donate money, that is great, but you ain't getting sympathy from me. |

Great time to cut military spending, while we're still in the middle of a war. But hey, ram the stimulus through without even reading it. Who the @$#% do these idiots in DC think builds Hummers??? Better to subsidize the purchase of Hondas and Toyotas? I'm angry! EZ, I think that "rutthless" comment is way out of line. If a company cannot stay in business, then ALL the employees lose. I also understand that Buell is continuing to offer some kind of Holiday compensation to the laid off employees. I'd be all for a top shelf BadWeB food bank for the folks. |

Buell is going to GREAT lengths to minimize the impact the economy (not Buell business practices) are extracting on Buell employees. I think it would be really cool to see how much we could raise, toss in a pot and send it to be turned into Thanksgiving meals for laid off Elves. It'd be so cool to see each one get a Badweb turkey and a $100 grocery gift certificate and a "Thank you" note. I feel sorry for all the folks who are currently suffering and am trying to do everything I can locally. I'd like to be involved with a neat Buell effort. Court |

Court - that is what I'm talking about. A little of the burden lifted on the good holidays where we celebrate giving thanks with our brothers. I think remembering the folks who have been a great part of the our riding joy, the builders - literally - and giving a small helping hand in that token of thanks would be a honest gesture of thank you to the people working at Buell. The Ruthless comment was directed elsewhere, and not meant to the company - it saddens me to say. Oh - and I'm in for a donation as well, send what to where and who? EZ (Message edited by ezblast on September 19, 2009) |

I'm in as well. As soon as something solidifies, let me know. On a good note - I got an email from a staffer in ET about a different subject, but we touched on this as well. Suffice it to say, things up there are somber...but they're nowhere near the giving-up stage. The season in DSB, and Danny's triumph, has kept everyone up there feeling as good as possible. Are times tough? Absolutely. Are they calling it quits? Not a chance. The elves are still the elves! |

Helping where one can is what the BADWEB is all about and how this website grew to be what it is today. That's a terrific attitude! EZ |

I'm in. Just let me know where to send. Despite my comments that "I'm going Japanese" due to the marketing campaign I still think Buell makes nice bikes and its not the blue collar worker's fault that management is retarded. |

I like Court's idea of a turkey and grocery coupon but we're talking some serious cash aren't we? I mean aren't there something like 200 people employed there? A quarter of that is 50 so we're looking at $5000 plus 50 turkeys (considering the coupon is for $100 groceries) Someone would have to know someone on the inside, probably human resources, that knows who's laid off and how to contact them. My boat isn't floating all that great right now but is nowhere near capsizing so I'd be down for some Buell love. |

The BadWeB account has it covered, but more would be welcome. $100 is short of what I'd like to see. More like $300 in grocery vouchers. We'll need a list of the folks. Court, help! |

I can handle the logistics and names. I'm curious to find out just how management is "retarded". "Management" didn't do this economy and when you are selling 10 bikes a day it makes little sense to build 70. Management could have done what Harley-Davidson did. I got two letters from old friends at Harley-Davidson who, after 21 years, were "released" last week. Buell laid off the minimum number of folks, continues aggressive development work, is paying their holidays during the time off, their vacations and all their benefits. I saw some of the choices that management had and I could not be prouder. Give me a day or two and I'll get the logistics started. I know many of these folks and they are absolutely wonderful folks. I'll be in for the first $300. Court |

Court, Sounds like you are very knowledgeable about Buell. Maybe you have numbers regarding how much Buell spent on its recent advertising campaign vs. how much they are saving by the planned layoff. Perhaps you also have numbers regarding how many new bike sales the new ads were supposed to bring in vs. how much they are actually bringing in. My point is that the ads are very risky. Risks are good in business but they don't always turn out as planned. I worked as an apps. engineer for a company that took big risks in 2005/2006 and ended up going bankrupt. Over 140 employees lost their jobs. Sorry if I turned this topic into another discussion about the ads but I wanted to respond. Court, I am taking the whole thing a little personal right now due to some personal matters. If you want to discuss this further maybe you can PM me and I will explain. |
