First let me say i'm fine except a swollen right knee and left elbow. Left elbow has a nice size hole in it but considering what happened, i'm a lucky SOB! I was wearing all my gear and will get to that later!

Anyways, to make a long story short. Me and two other buddy's had just left Hooter's bike night around 8pm and was heading to another bike night about 20min away. It was a two lane road and we were coming to a busy intersection that turns into a 4 lane road for about 500 feet then you have to merge back over into the two lane road. Well, we just came to the part of the road where it went to 4 lanes so we got on the right hand side because it was clear with no cars and it was a red light. Got about 7-8 cars untill intersection and light turned green so we sped up to about 50mph to pass. I was on the left and my buddy was on my right and one guy behind us. Just as i was about to clear the last car and merge back over onto the two lane, a car came out of nowhere on our right to turn in the same direction we where going... OH SHIT!!

Hit the brakes and thought i had missed his car but at the last second he swerved farther left and i hit his drivers side front quarter panel and sent me flying. I landed on my left elbow first then my head pretty hard and slid down the road a good 100 feet then barrel rolled about 4 times. My buddy thought more but i dont know.

First thing i did was see if i still had all my arms and legs then began to stand up because i thought i was on oncoming traffic. Ok, im fine, now where is my bike i dont see it anywhere? About 200 feet in a guys farm it was laying in some kinda produce i dont know. Somehow it stayed upright and continued down the road till it hit the curb and flipped and landed on the subframe and snapped it in half.

One buddy went back to the car and about ripped this 16yr old kids ass out of the car but thought better of it. I stayed as far away from him as i could. He did come to me and apoligize b/c he didnt see us but i didnt give a shit. I never even got his info, i let the cops figure that out! Cops never even questioned me because there were about 10 witnesses who all had same story..

BUT... anyways, im fine. Very lucky.. Here are some pics from my cell phone. My camera is broke but i got a buddy coming over tomorrow to take better pics and i will post them. I will also get pics of the gear i was wearing which did its job if you ask me!

The only real damage to me!

Better bike and gear pics tomorrow!

ATGATT

BTW, i just noticed im missing my dash cluster. Guess i need to go to the field tomorrow!

Also, just for shits and giggles, we thought we would try to see if it would start... Not even hesitated!! Started up like a champ.. So if it totaled, im going to try and buy it back then part out whats good!!

Perfect example of why no ride is too short for full gear. ATGATT works.

Close call, and I'm glad that you're OK!

It wasn't Okra was it!!??

Jokes aside, Chili and I are both glad to see you are ok. Shame about the bike-great about all the intact limbs. Sounds like it could've been a whole lot worse. 'Yaya' for ATTGATT.

ian, glad to hear your alright and sorry to hear about the bike. it's bad enough when you have to worry about cagers all the time but when you have and inexperienced one, that just makes it worse.

then barrel rolled about 4 times. My buddy thought more but i dont know.

When I got the piss beat out of my in junior high, i only remember getting hit 6 or 7 times (this was a surprise beating, there was no fighting back on my part). Other people in the room said it was closer to 12 or 13 times, so I wouldn't be suprised if you rolled more.

Good to hear you made it though everything relatively unscathed. Blows about the bike but those are the cards sometimes.

A friend of mine bought a 1-year old Goldwing a few weeks back, and one week to the day of him owning it he got hit by a car - walked away but the bike was totaled.

I hope his insurance company takes care of you. Another option is to do everything through your insurance and then let them go after the kid's insurance for the bill. Your company is more eager to please you that his is, generally.

+1 on going through your own insurance co. Mine was real generous with the other company's money. Look out if it is the same company though. Oh ya, happy ya aint hurt worse. 50 wink wink

You are doing OK by the sound of it - and by all means, hit up your insurance company to see if they'll let you buy it back salvage... be a great track bike or second "beater" streetbike - or part it out.

Glad you're OK... and glad your buddy didn't pull the kid outta the car and pound him into next Thursday (even though he deserved it!)

Looks like soybeans.

Glad you are OK! Good job wearing all the gear, even for a short ride.

Just because I "can" go faster then the traffic around me, even if it's still under the speed limit, I hate doing it. Got clobbered by a person making a left turn while I was driving a Chevette in 1984 doing exactly that... I was fully legal, mut moving into an intersection faster then lots of other traffic, and WHAM! The person "never saw me" until it was too late.

I'm in "pucker mode" when overtaking any stopped or slowed traffic at any intersection now...

Ian, glad you are ok.

Your story reminds me of when my brother t-boned some idiot that pulled right out in front of him. It sucks being in an accident but it also sucks seeing someone you care about get in an accident too. I was riding with my brother when that idiot pulled out in front of him. It was really horrible watching him T-bone the car. Thank goodness he was able to slow down considerably before he hit the guy. But I still see images of him rolling over the hood of the car. I about killed the idiot that pulled out in front of them but I thought better of it ... just as your friend did.

Totally agree Reepicheep. I always have visions of someone pulling out in front of me or changing lanes right into me so I never fly by stopped or slow moving traffic. I actually saw a guy get hit right in front of my doing that. He was flying up the right side while people in the left turn lane let someone coming the other way take a left in front of them. The person taking the left never saw the bike coming up the other lane and just pulled out right in front of him. Luckily it was low speed coming up to a stop light but still, I always approach with caution in those scenarios.

Thanks for kind words. Im still waiting on my buddy to email me the pics we took today.

Went back out to the scene today to get my dash cluster. I found it interesting the needles where stuck on 40mph and 2300 rpm's. Dont know what that means but it was interesting.

Also after looking at the scene. I didnt go as far as i thought, neither did my bike. I'm guessing i was about 60-70 feet from the car once i stopped sliding and the bike about 60-70 feet from me..

I will post pics up soon as i get them!

Again thanks!

little curb rash about 6 inches on front and 2 on rear, but are WAY better then i thought! Still air in the tires!

If you look at the pic where its on it side, you can see the shiny curb rash on the front

I'm glad to hear you came out ok. I'm afraid the biker in the accident I saw on the way home from work didn't fare so well.

It was at a terrible intersection on a 4-lane at the end of a curve. There have already been several fatalities and a couple of bad bike accidents in the past 10 years since it was opened.

All I could see was a white sportbike and the paramedics were running over to help the victim(s). I'm guessing there were 2 since a 2nd ambulance was heading to the scene.

The last biker taken out there was a neighbor on his way to work. A young girl talking on her cell phone made a left turn in front of him.

Be careful out there - they are all out to get us!

is it bad i just went back out and started it up, sat down on the garage floor and stared at it for 5 min with a tear in my eye, just to hear it run one last time?

Maybe its just the vicodin and vodka talkin to kill the pain?

Back in the old days, when rough men had to put down a good horse it wasn't a very easy thing to do. Flash forward to the future and now it's time to put down your "horse"... you'll get up again and ride. Just a matter of time. Never forget the steed though, or the adventures you had along the way. Glad you are safe to ride another day. Keep doing the right thing.

Yeah...I've been doing the same thing for 3 months. Difference is the bike is fine, I'm not. My left arm still isn't strong enough to squeeze the clutch or hold it up. I turn it on and let her run in the shed. I've found myself getting light headed at times for sitting too long....

yeah Jesse i remember you when i first started "The Riding Game" about how you wanted to play..

I could get on and ride right now.. matter of fact i may borrow a buddys 9R tomorrow(yes i will stop taking the vic beforehand)

Bad part about all of this is, that i may not buy a Buell at first.. I have had a nice 4 yrs of riding pretty much by myself. Now i want to get the wife more involved and got a nice Street Glide lined up from a friend to do so..

I wont be Buell-less long though and i will never leave here thats for sure..

Here is a pic of one im looking at... NICE HUH???

First thing i will do is powder coat everything that is chrome black!
