So sorry to hear. Shelby looks like a beautiful pup with soft caring eyes.
We love our two "kids" and know that there would be an unfillable void if they were not there, mess, trouble, dirty paw prints and all.
I lost my own first dog after six years of him being constantly glued to my side. It tore my heart out, and it took me a while before I could get another. After some healing time, I realised that I needed another dog.
In time, I hope you find another companion for yourself and your family, just as beautiful and loyal as this one. |

Delta- sorry for your loss, having grown up with many a pooch, it always sucks to see them pass. These days I've some older cats and have been dreading the day. Hang in there, in time there'll be good excuse again to go wild in the pet store .... |

Sorry for the loss of your best friend. Its hard I know. I lost 2 furfriends in the last 3 years. One was my Lab of almost 15 years and my buddy Goliath a Old English Mastiff of medical issues that couldn't give quality of life if saved.I can honesty say they can't be replaced but in time you warm up to having another. Dogs to me anyways cannot be surpassed by anyone for unconditional love and friendship. |

Terribly sorry about your companion.....
We have 2 dogs and a couple cats. One of the cats has been with us for 14 years and she follows me like a dog, meets me at the door after work, etc.
She is getting old and I am starting to see the signs of that, I can imagine what you are going through. Sounds crazy, but the loss of an animal is no less hurtful than the loss of a human. |

I am also sorry to hear of your great loss. A great loss is what it is whenever you lose a friend. Especially one as true as a dog.
I miss all my dogs that are gone. I miss them every day.
Take some time, then get another dog. Rescue one from a shelter if you can. There are lots of dogs that need a good home.

lol, I've got a bald Parakeet, 8 years old now! How embarrassing! My lady wants him to go to heaven, but I keep nurturing him/her (don't know what it is but I love it all the same). |

Sad to hear of your loss.
Of all the animals a person can share their live with, dogs are the most special. They bind themselves to our hearts like no other animal can. Anyone who says it was "just a dog" has never had his heart touched by one and is poorer in spirit for it. |

My boy Raleigh I just about lost a little over a month ago. His Colon twisted. Nobody know how or why it happened it did. I Ok'd a surgery for 4500. He had 30% chance to survive. He lost a foot and a half of his colon. Hes fine now and I'm glad I did this. Hes by my side always. |

It's horrible to lose a friend like that. My dog Reggie was a 110 pound shepherd, lab, rot mix that came from the pound. I had him from a puppy, and he was a member of the the family for 14 years. A better dog never walked the face of the Earth. I have held off forgetting another dog for years because I didn't think he could be replaced. I know how you must feel. |

It's extremely hard losing a dog. Thankfully Shelby went with no pain. I've had dogs since I can remember and have shed tears every time I've lost one.

Thank you, I am trying to heal and all of you badwebbers are helping me so much, I am thinking in a year or so I may adopt a greyhound. They are soft and gentile too I hear.

Thank you. I hope that your cats can comfort you past the fear of loosing them. I was scared of loosing Shelby as she got older but when I got home she always helped me forget my fear.

Thank you and I am sorry for your loss, I feel like I know what it was for you to go through it. Friendship is so fragile with us humans but your dog will always love you and be there for you, and they seem to know when you are hurting when others don’t. they are intuitive and compassionate.

I’m sorry to hear about your dogs, I fear I will miss Shelby forever as well, I have had one other pass that I never forget, he was a Black lab named Leo, and he was a fierce guardian and companion, I have never felt as safe as I did when I was a child sleeping on the lawn with him.

Thank you Bill, I think you know exactly how I feel. Because Shelby was so much like my old Lab I could swear they were the same dog only years apart, Shelby came into my life as a gift from my mom because I would not look at another dog after Leo, but she was so much like him it was as if it were meant to be, almost like Leo was watching out for me even after he left. I miss them both so much :’(

Delta one,
His name is Raliegh. Hes a Boerboel or known as a South African Mastiff. I have two actually. Raliegh is the one closest in the picture. Libby is my Female. The pic was just taken a week ago. You can still see where he was shaved for the surgery. 40 plus staples to hold him together.

After writing a long response that did me more good than anyone else would want to read, I'll just post this.
I have had six sheep dogs, four males, two females. Largest and smallest I have now ranging from 20" at the shoulders to 27" and from 55# to 100#. I have had jumpers, Houdini, Alpha male with no fear of man or dog, happy go lucky omega that always made you smile. I have had two deaf dogs, two blue eyed, some with fine coats, some with course coats. I have had some that point, some that run as fast as Grey Hounds and some with sniffers like a Blood Hound.
Bill, each dog is an individual just like people. They each have their strengths and weaknesses. I had two named Alex, one I got as a kid and the second as an adult that looked like the first as a pup. Out of all six, the replacement Alex was the one I was closest to. I still miss him. Though this blue eyed little male under my feet sure warms the heart. |

thank you for sharing, I know it is hard for me to even write about leo and I lost him in '95. those are big dogs. A friend of mine had one that was a big baby, an alpha that size would be intimidating to anybody not in its "pack" but I am sure that the two of you were the best of friends. they sound like a diverse group. I have only had two so far and I will take my time getting another. but I have loved my dogs as I can tell that you love yours. |

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

I found this poem after our first died, 8 dogs later it still chokes me up to read, but makes me happy to think that they will be there in the future. Sorry for your loss, but know that your not alone. |

Delta One-Our best baby sitter was 140lb Great Dane. She had that "motherly" sixth sense that told us if one or both of the twins had an issue anything from a smelly diaper to a fever. She would let them crawl all over her pull her ears and tail even let them curl up next to her to let them nap. We ignored everybodies warnings about Danes being aggressive with kids because Shelia was not. I am sorry for you loss of Shelby. Cherish the memories.
