I figured we needed something else to talk about other than the political threads. I try to ride to work as much as I can and I have to say "This has been a good year!" I have a 22mi. commute each way and when the temp gets below 35degF. it can be hard to keep the body parts warm since about 18 of them are highway. I usually start riding around the middle of March and make it into November. I don't keep track of how many times I ride (like I used to when I bicycled to work) but this year I started riding regularly March 15. I have driven my car to work 5 times since then. From the outlook for the next couple weeks I think I still won't be driving. |

Why would any sane person stop riding regularly? |

Heated riding gear is in your future. Spend a little $$$, reap year round rideability. |

Full face helmet, carhart bib overalls and matching jacket. gortech lined leather gloves. These items can be all had for less than 100.oo. Well maybe not the helmet, but the carhart work(similar to a big smith) and gloves will. I use a big smith insulated bib overall and work jacket with hood combo and have rode in 5 degree weather for a lot more than 25 miles. my legs feet and got cold before anything else |

I've got an old one-piece Weiss insulated riding suit. When the weather cools off I put that on to ride to work. I wear rigger boots so I don't have to carry extra footwear either. My work ride is between 10 & 20 mins depending on weather, traffic, how aggressive I feel & how late I'm running. Half twisty rough back roads & half smooth curves. The TT eats all of it superbly. |

23 mile commute one way down here and ride at least 3/4 of the time and the only problem i run into are the occasional asshats that don't know the rules of the road, such as slower traffic stays right. happened on thursday and i forgot that a bike wouldn't win against a car when the guy wanted to cut me off when i tried to get around him. i guess i need to learn a better way to relax. |

I gotta say that the Free Buell neck gaiter really comes in handy when it starts getting cold here in Indiana! Gotta love Free Stuff! |

I guess it's better than riding 'irregularly'. They do make an OTC drug for that though. The biggest reason that I don't ride much under 35 is the morons around here that don't realize how easy a bike can go down on ice. They sit right on your bumber all the time. |
