I was just in my boss's office and overheard the radio saying that HD had narrowed a new plant site down to three candidates and one of them is the county next to where my parents live. Didn't I just read in another thread about HD employees being laid off along with Buell employees? I freely admit I don't understand corporate thinking but looking to go elsewhere when you have to lay off employees? What's the deal? Discuss. I just put that in there because it got some flack a while back. You really don't have to discuss. |

They're looking at consolidating, not adding. |

I'd love it to be Murfreesboro, but I'm betting on NONE of the above. I think it's a leverage play. |

I wouldn't be surprised if it was TN Ft, it is the only state I know where they can still get people to work for not much more than they would pay the traveling mexicans.... Great state, terrible...terrible pay. |

I used to work in manufacturing... I've worked in very profitable places only to see our work go overseas or the plant shut down for no real reason.. It's all about profit.. The share holder doesn't see it but the Higher ups make out like bandits on bonuses and what not.. |

I don't know. The Saturn folks do ok. The Nissan folks do ok. The Volkswagen folks do ok. Actually if you look at the statistics: Department of Labor Bureau of Statistics TN is 31st and NC is 24th. We also have a lower cost of living and no income tax. If you adjust for income tax, our rankings climb. Oddly, our ranking is above that of Wisconsin. Our unemployment rate is consistently lower than the national average. Supply and demand. |

Amazing what low taxes can do for employment, eh? |

Or, conversely, what HIGH taxes can do for unemployment. |
