"I don't know. We'll have to see what materializes first. It could all be bad rumor and speculation." Absolutely +1. Bad mouthing Buell has been going on at HD for years. BTW, I drank an entire bottle of Red Stag this weekend. Straight. I love this stuff. |

Stag is going over well everywhere as I can tell. Its appealing to us younger guys. The older guys that love there Whiskey and Bourbon are mixed emotions. Hard to sway them off there brand.LOL |

How cool would be if Rotax made a engine that would bolt up to the current XB frame! |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dale_Franks http://dalefranks.com/techadvice.asp I would say your assessment is correct. Why would anyone buy a motorcycle from a company that is certainly to be sold to the highest bidder. (sarcasm) I think some people are under the impression the 1125R is the best motorcycle Buell ever made and everything Buell has done rest on that one bike. It may be for them but certainly not for me. What people do not understand is that people like you Charlotte, that have been around Buells a while, do not get scared easily when someone starts with the Buell doom and gloom. Mr. Franks has an opinion and that is all it is. Unless there are facts then it is hearsay. We will see a lot of these opinions about Buell as Buell grows and brings in a different type of rider. For me, I love the new bikes and will have a 1125ST but I will stick with the people in the Old School section that appreciate Buell for what it is and not what the masses want it to be. It's hard to predict what's going to happen, and the new management at HOG(NYSE) isn't likely to do the "logical thing". Look at what management is already proposing- abandoning the billion dollar investments made in York and KC in faint hope of finding warm bodies that'll work for a buck or two an hour less. So I wouldn't be surprised at anything HOG(NYSE) does with Buell. But... While I wouldn't go near HOG(NYSE) stock, if Erik Buell want's make Buell independent via an LBO, spin off, or whatever I'm ready to invest! |

it is quite common for people that are "normal" to dislike passionate people and see them as "wacko". I have been on that end of the stick many times. Viewed as a "wacko", too aggressive, crazy, by the "that will never work" crowd. Usually they were wrong |

I really like the MotoCzysz, but to quote Court who quote's someone else, "true genius ships". It's an odd notion to imagine that Harley throttled Buell into using air-cooled engines. Buell was using the air-cooled engines long before Harley had any say in Buell Motor Company let alone a majority stake in Buell Motorcycle Company in 1998. I can see some of what Mr Franks is saying, in a corperate setting when the company is poorly run. In that invironment, innovation, drive, honesty, INTEGRITY, threaten the folks who are less-able, and happy with the status quoe. How ever the MOCO is not Poorly run if the bottom line is any indicator, it these tough times they are making money, they and buell are being forced to take measures to adjust for the market. Most of Courts "anicdotal" comments in reference to the V rod and some other issues lead me to believe that there have been turf wars between the two, the divisions that come out of these type of situations are never good. This I have 1st hand knowledge of in another setting. In my heart I have to believe that the folks whos last names begin with "D" are smart enough to understand Now just what they have, I believe that they can learn from their mistakes. the 1125-r stands as testimate to that, can some one put up the link to the "barn video" segments, Erik came up with the concept years ago My 0.02$ a disgrunteled suit is either a. trying to sew seeds in the management above [ fail ] b. dis informmation for some unknown reason. c. the executive source is the janitor d. Buell is going to have to be sold to cover the losses on the european purchases, (we need cash) e. your guess is as good as mine f. Dales been in the Koolaid again g. who cares... |

If H-D sells Buell I would fear for the continued prosperity of Harley-Davidson the Company. I have no way of proving this but I feel that H-D's climb of market share was due to their racing efforts in the 1960's and 70's. I realized that Harley was cool in 8th grade reading a magazine article about Cal Rayborn winning the 1969 Daytona 200. I remember when Sportsters were the badest bikes on the planet and clear into the 70's they didn't loose by much. I'm sure that others feel the same way I do, but the guy's in their teens and twenties have no reason to feel the same way. Buell is that bridge to these future riders and owners. If Buell goes away a large percentage of potential buyers goes too. A Buell buyer may never buy a softtail but they may buy a Dyna or a Dresser. |

If this is the same Dale Franks that posts in the hdforums, I believe he had a disappointing experience with a Sportster that he tried to make into a sport tourer by adding hard bags. You don't see that very often. I know at one time he was considering the XT but eventually ended up with a Yamaha sport tourer I think. If he never test rode an X or XT, then he can't appreciate the huge difference between the Ullyses motor and the Sportster motor. Maybe he's got some leftover hard feelings from his HD experience. http://hdforums.com/forum/sportster-models/213780- well-its-time-the-sporty-must-go.html |

Maybe he's got some leftover hard feelings from his HD experience. No. I just knew what I was writing about, and have some sources that actually are plugged in. You know, sometimes, when people write unpleasant things about Buell, they do it because the things are true. Not because they hate Buell. Just something to think about. |

Yeah, well, I'm not happy to have nailed it. Apparently, the decision had already been made to kill Buell back in June. The board green-lighted it in the board meeting the week I wrote the original article. After that, it was all just a matter of setting up the timing for the public announcement. I couldn't say any more about it at the time, because I couldn't reveal my source, or get into any specifics, because they were all on background. Harley really just blew it with Buell. They had an opportunity to really do something great, and they just p*ssed it away. |
