…motorcycles ARE dangerous! Can’t believe it happened to me. No I can’t say I was run down or forced off the road. And I didn’t drop it either. I didn’t even have the key in it! I was washing it. In flip flops Slipped and turned an ankle. I know better too. “All The Gear All The Time” But who’d thought I'd need boots and a helmet to wash the things? Man, hard lesson to learn. I always wear my full leathers WITH speed hump when I was the Buells... shame on you. Seriously, did you sprain it? I've got a horrible left ankle after doing the paratrooper thing for a few years. I managed to turn it around backwards once after landing in a hole on a jump and it will always give me problems. Flippy Floppies are my worst enemy anymore. |

Sorry to hear about the injury. Explain this "washing the bike" thing you say you were doing at the time of injury. I understand washing clothes (if they smell) and dishes (if it's a health/safety issue), but what part of the bike do you wash, and what do you use? ![](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/biggrin2.gif) |

Well it's a funny until someone loses and eye...OR breaks a foot. It got to hurting so bad I ended up at the ER where the X-rayed it and sure enough broke a bone. No cast but the Doctor wrapped it up tigher'n King Tut's Mummy and sent me on my way with the old "Ice 3-4 times a day and keep off your feet" Here I was all set to ride down to The New River next week. |

Just posted this in another thread . . . I have so many frickin fatality photos and article from the last 5 days I'm not even taking the time to post them . . . I am thrilled you were wearing the right gear . . . there have been 3 fatalities within blocks of my house the last 5 days. I have to weave my way through the photos of young kids and candles on the sidewalks. If they'd been wearing gear (and had their head out of their young asses) they too would be posing on the internet looking for turn signals. Well done having the right gear. By the way . . one of them was wearing one of those Harley-Davidson half helmets . . . if he'd had my 10 year old Arai he'd be fine . . .but the photo I have of him is under a bed sheet in the middle of Forest Avenue with his skull crushed like a ••••••• pineapple where the Toyota that was behind him when he did the stupid wheelie ran over him. |

Court, I hear your frustration but the man was just washing not riding his Buell...
Did you seriously break it though? Man that stinks! Please take my hard headed advice and let the thing heal before you try and do any type of serious activity on it. Ankles are so quick to injure again and again. Take care of it and remember "RICE" ... Rest Ice Compression Elevation |

wait court he was just washing it... ummm..... sorry for your slip and fall man, that sucks!! hope you heal up ok in the mean time think about this I always let Harley wash mine while I buy parts or something, it usually only costs a few bucks and they do better than I can with all the overly expensive waxes and whatnot. and my favorite part is it doesn't take any of my riding time!! |

Court - I lost a friend this week-end on a Hyabusa. He was 59 years old, wore all the gear all the time. He was in a single bike accident and died from his injuries just a few miles from his home. I'm betting either a car or an animal got in front of him. Just goes to show, when it's your time, it's your time. In the end - there is no blame. I miss my friend. Be safe everyone. |

Granted . . . there are times you have done all you can and your number is simply up . . .ANY ONE OF THESE KIDS who died within 3 blocks would have walked away laughing it they'd had a HELMET. don't play it safe, play it smart. safe is staying home, smart is saddling up with your gear on. when its your time to go its your time to go; but don't go tempting the fates to snip that thread because you are being a dumb @$$, they will only take to much prodding! we all die, the lucky ones go out doing something they love. we could all be so lucky. I too am sorry about your friend, it sounds like he went out with is boots on tho. (please do not be offended I speak with the utmost respect) (Message edited by delta_one on September 06, 2009) |

Just goes to show, when it's your time, it's your time. But there are so many things we can do to avoid stupid accidents. ATGATT, Look, be awake and alert, ride within your limits, watch for other idiots on the road. A good customer of mine (from the safety shop) and absolute gentleman/great father was killed on his Harley last year. He had been riding for near 40 years. A car pulled out and t-boned him on a highway t intersection. He died almost instantly. The car driver "thought he could beat him across. Thought he was further away" Seeing who turned up to the court hearing in support for his widow and children, I would say that driver will live in fear for some time for his stupidity. |

Man, oh man do i firmly believe in AGATT now. I was moving my bike while looking for something in the garage two weeks ago......... while barefoot. Like a dumbarse, when I leaned the bike back onto its sidestand my foot was under the stand. Good god it hurt, it hurt so much i couldn't even cuss. It felt like somone took a railroad spike and nailed my foot to the floor. When I did it I immediatly tried to snatch my foot back but it didnt move and it took me a second (that seemed like an hour)to realize what happened and lift the bike off my foot. So I'm very much in tune with not_purple's pic. |

In that stool ride the man is missing his HANS device. All that open neck area could be a problem. I know, it would be too restrictive when reaching for the TP. Comfort and the ability to move is important. |

Sometimes it's just pure, darn, bad luck. A colleague of mine had just bought a new Shadow. While waiting to take delivery of it, he fell off a ladder and broke is arm while trying to make room in his garage for it. A friend had to ride it home from the dealer for him. Then, once he got that healed up and was installing a garage door opener, he tore his knee out of socket while moving into the spot he had finally cleared (he lost his balance fumbling for the kickstand and the bike fell on him; required surgery to fix). Poor guy. He had the thing nearly a full year before he was ever able to ride it. He almost sold it in disgust. I suggested he trade it in on an XB Lightning which is lighter and handles better. ![](http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/clipart/biggrin2.gif) |
