Bill, According to Wikopedia, you are right about that a Christion Socialist wrote the Pledge. Look at the picture that accompanies the article! Oh my god, maybe he was a National Socialist! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pledge_of_Allegiance

Now THAT is a disturbing picture! They certainly do look like good little German kids right around 1940. |

Bill, What grades and subject do you teach? You have an open analytical mind and I bet you are a great teacher. My wife teaches fourth grade in Oceanside, CA to mostly poor Latinos and Whites. It is hard to get parental involvement which is the key to educational success. |

It is hard to get parental involvement which is the key to educational success. Wow! It cant be that simple can it? I never hear CO's talk about that very often. |

"I wonder how people would react if the Pledge of Allegiance had first been introduced on Tuesday by the Obama administration." Then the "flag" would be a euphemism for socialism and we would blow a gasket. That video is about 95% okay. Get rid of the creepy stuff and I'm fine with it. |

"Then the "flag" would be a euphemism for socialism and we would blow a gasket." It probably was for the original author of the Pledge. After all, to him Christianity and Socialism went hand-in-hand. |

Hi Rein, Since returning from Iraq I have been teaching 3rd Grade. Of all the age groups I have worked with over the years, this is my favorite. That's my "day job." At night I tutor undergraduates. I also help write and edit their research papers. It's a nice combination. Teaching the little kids is incredibly rewarding, and the university level stuff forces me to dig into topics I wouldn't otherwise have that much of an interest in. It also forces me to look at supporting information from other's perspectives. It's a constant reminder that there are usually several valid arguments that can be made from any set of "facts." When I was a Marine, I spent some time in Oceanside. I remember it as being kind of a tough place. I teach in a nice stable, rural district now. However, I spent some time in an inner-city school before I got this job, so I know what it's like. Your wife has my total respect. Bill |

Bill, Thank you for your response. Teaching is a much harder job than most people give teachers credit for so you have my respect. Thanks also for your reasoned arguments from your liberal Democratic perspective. We might not always agree but your posts are well thought out and I learn from them. - Tom Reiner (reindog) |

After all, to him Christianity and Socialism went hand-in-hand. I've noticed Catholics generally lean left, along with the traditional Methodists, Lutherans, Presbyterians, etc while the Pentecostals, Church of God types lean right. |

I force my kids to watch fox news with me - so any propoganda that they get from the left, is easily countered at home. |

The video wasn't bad... A little cheesy but not bad... I remember Reagan and Bush Sr. being broadcast into my class rooms many times so how is this any different? Can't even count how many shuttle launches I've watched in the classroom.. That whole government say no to drugs thing worked well? We would laugh our asses off during those.. Endured a bunch Government abstinence lectures yet we have condoms available for free here in the basket if you need them. My parents especially my dad emphasized thinking for myself and getting both sides of the story. I'm just a Florida Indy keeping a open mind... |

This is an alternative lesson plan for Obama's speech to the children of America. I like this one: 5. When elected officials publicly make a promise, what should be done if they go back on their word and do something completely different--including the exact opposite of what they said they'd do? http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2009/09/04/jon-krau shar-obama-school-speech/ My wife, a teacher, pointed out that the worst time to have Obama's speech is the first day of school. This day is typically pandemonium and an outside distraction doesn't help. Many parents will keep their children home because they resent indoctrination into the Obama Youth and the school districts will lose funding due to the absence. The Obama gang is clueless. |
