Sometimes advertising people are geniuses. Other times they are dumb asses. This is the "other" time. |

You guys don't get it, the ad is not in poor taste at all. Those planes are all Air Force 1s carrying members of the press on photo shoots. Besides, Americans should really stop causing so many tsunamis. |

It was very shocking, gets your attention, and perhaps a little confronting and insensitive.... Hhhmm...It says the advertising team were removed. Maybe they went to work for another US company? |

You have to wonder how many people's hands the proofs went through and that nobody said "Hey!, whoa...uh....."! I should be outraged, but I can't get my jaw off the table long enough to make an a angry face. |

I totally get what they were going for here. Maybe it's a little too soon? If the goal was to make me think, it did do that. Interesting perspective. I don't think it's going to give people the warm-fuzzies for the WWF though. I mean, if they were looking for donations, I'm just thinking this may not be the best approach. I'd expect this sort of ad from PETA. I expect pics of fuzzy baby jungle animals from WWF. ->ChelleM |

It was very shocking, gets your attention, and perhaps a little confronting and insensitive.... Perhaps, but trivializing mass murder for any agenda is unacceptable no matter how noble that agenda may be. 3000+ families should not have their guts torn out again because a 1/2 dozen ad folks moral compass' got stuck pointing south! Sorry if this sounds like a rant and I know that the ad is not seeing the light of day, but if there is one subject that really causes me to lose it, it would be the disregard and insensitivity for life lost! I'm with Greenlantern 100%. Hex, your flippant analogy is bewildering. I guess if you refuse to acknowledge evil or even just the mass murder perpetrated on 9/11, you can equate such horrendous events it to a motorcycle ad. Personally, I'll never forget the evil of 9/11. |

What does either the tsunami or 9/11 have to do with the world wildlife fund. Yet another organization that started life with laudable purpose but that has transformed into a political organization. No thank you. |

Way beyond bad taste. 911 where were you? I was several hunderd miles from home, and BTW I live about 5 to 7 miles As the crow flies from a nuclear power plant, they might have crashed an airliner in to that. My family was here.... |

911 where were you? Largo, MD. I could see the smoke from the Pentagon. I was on the phone with a co-worker who watched the planes crash into the towers. Trying to equate a natural disaster (tsunami) to an act of evil perpetrated by man upon their fellow man (9/11) serves no purpose other than to shock. This goes beyond "tasteless" right into "I hope these folks don't plan on walking down the streets in NYC for their own safety." If they do, they deserve whatever should happen to them. |

I was in Cincinnati picking up a load of material for customer.... I had got lost and walked into a Self Storage business to ask directions..... They had a TV on.... I couldn't believe what I was seeing.... Got back in the truck and the cell phone rang and the wife was checking on me and let me know what she heard.... I picked up my load and hauled butt back to Columbus.... I remember being on the back porch that night and it was so strange to see NO planes in the air WTF is a understatement when it comes to this advertisement..... boycott is coming for WWF |

By noon Pacific Coast time, I was on alert, packed and headed to base. By 9-15 I was gone for two years. In twentyfive years I get to write a book about it. This photo shop only gives the tin foil crew ammo for the idea that the whole event was a staged Wag the Dog event, and really didnt happen, so can we please all just get along now ? um no. stfu I like animals, some of them even better when they are on my plate. |

Malaria kills 4 times as many people EACH YEAR than the tsunami did. Who banned DDT again? Oh yeah, the same sort of jackasses who paid for this ad. Be careful who you give money to...this is the result. |

I was at work, playing euchre on Yahoo (believe it or not, my boss told me to). One of the people playing said in chat that someone had flown a plane into the WTC. I figured they meant like a little prop job, perhaps loaded with home-made explosives, and asked. They replied that no, it was a big jetliner. We had a huge projection television in the lobby that was constantly tuned to CNN or some other news channel. I went down to the lobby and watched the second plane come in. You could have heard a pin drop in there, it was completely silent. No one moved, no one breathed. As others have noted, comparing a natural disaster to an act of evil knowingly perpetrated by mankind is disingenuous - it implies that the earth is knowingly harming us (which, I suppose, is exactly what the crazy tree-huggers believe). The idea of karma appeals to me greatly on a personal level - unfortunately I don't have that kind of patience. Therefore I wish all the ills these kinds of people reap to be visited upon them immediately. |

I think Hex was referring to the fact that he thinks both are examples of poor marketing decisions where many people were involved in the decision to put out the ad, and no one cried foul. |

Yep- W.W.F should now be recognized as W, W.T.F. Whoa, What The That's gotta be one of the most tasteless, ignorant and insensitive ads I've evaar seen. "You have to wonder how many people's hands the proofs went through and that nobody said "Hey!, whoa...uh....."! " +1. |

Thanks Hoot, that was exactly what I meant. No disrespect to the living or dead intended. These examples of shock advertising hurt more than they do good, IMO. |

There is a big shift with this new gov to phase out the fear of terorizm and radical religious groups and focus on the fear of man made glabal catastrophe. There is no doubt they are using different groups to champion their ideas. |

It is interesting to see how the reactions to this have gone in this thread. The add was in extremely bad taste. And was completely and utterly disrespectful. And now.. for those who obviously didn't read the spot: WWF did NOT create this ad, nor did they run it... In fact, they spoke against it... Always seek the truth before you rage.. You will look more intelligent once the smoke clears. The World Wildlife Fund has issued this statement: “WWF strongly condemns this offensive and tasteless ad and did not authorize its production or publication. It is our understanding that it was a concept offered by an outside advertising agency in Brazil. The concept was summarily rejected by WWF and should never have seen the light of day. It is an unauthorized use of our logo and we are aggressively pursuing action to have it removed from websites where it is being currently featured. We strongly condemn the messages and the images portrayed in this ad. On behalf of WWF, here in the US and around the world, we can promise you this ad does not in any way reflect the thoughts and feelings of the people of our organization.”} (Message edited by RATyson on September 02, 2009) |

I'm glad someone posted that. I would have seen it eventually, because I'm a member of the WWF and after work was planning on sending an email to them regarding my continued membership. Now I feel badly for them - you just can't take back an image once it's out there and more people will see the image than will see the statement. Sucks. And could happen to any of us. ->ChelleM |

I was in GIS class at UW Madison and thought "why is this girl sticking her head in here and making up shit... it isn't funny" The instructor got the streaming real time video up on the projector and it sunk in... what a horrible day that was... I cried about it that night at the hotel. NEVER FORGET the brave civil servants who ran into that burning building. I love NYC... |
