the way DOT counted sales makes sence. F150 2x4 and F150 4x4 have different EPA gas mileage categories. The auto industry does similar things as well. The Ford Taurus is counted differently then the Lincoln MKS and Volvo XC90. Bottom line is the different power trains and chassis are counted separately. We all know how long the government takes to update anything, everyone has to know it takes 6 months to be paid by the feds and 3 months to update any figures. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

No, it doesn't make sense, except in furthering their agenda - attempting to convince the American public that everyone wants a small, fuel-efficient vehicle when anyone with a pair of damned eyes can see that no, Americans want to choose for themselves...and a large number of them CHOOSE to get SUVs and pickups even without a compelling reason to do so. That bullshit about the EPA mileage categories is just that, government bullshit. They don't want to advertise the fact that their supposedly green, rushed legislation was so poorly written that it allowed people to buy large numbers of new full-sized pickup trucks, so they come up with a creative way of skewing the numbers to keep the morons out in California from having a collective apoplexy. If you asked anyone - ANYONE - to go through the CFC results and count how many of each car were sold, I guarantee you the results would more closely match Edmunds results (by the way, Edmunds is an independent rating company, kind of like Consumer Reports - unlike our government, which, whether you agree with it or not, clearly has an agenda to serve). Why? Because it is natural (and the way it's always done) to count by nameplate. If you go and look at reported sales figures for any car company - foreign or domestic - you will see what I'm talking about. They do not report out that they sold 150,000 I4 manual transmission Camrys and 75,000 V6 automatic Camrys, they simply report that they sold 225,000 Camrys. They don't report 200,000 V8 F150s and 75,000 V6 F150s, they report 275,000 F150s. The automotive industry counts Ford Taurus sales separately from MKS and XC90 because they are DIFFERENT CARS. Different nameplates. They count all F150 sales together. Why? Because it's the same truck. Same nameplate. Shit like this just infuriates me, working in the industry. There has been so much blatant lying and misinformation by our government, particularly over the last year, that I just can't keep my mouth shut on the subject anymore. I've spent untold hours with my liberal (and criminally uninformed - amazing and sad how often those two traits go together) friends on the subject. How does that quote go?
