Turns out anyone who is concerned is just "silly" anyway. "“I think we’ve reached a little bit of the silly season when the President of the United States can’t tell kids in school to study hard and stay in school,”" According to that wonderful press secretary they found. http://features.csmonitor.com/politics/2009/09/04/ gibbs-resistance-to-obama-school-speech-just-plain -silly/ Isn't it nice to know that anyone who feels Obama isn't doing a great job is either just plain silly, or a fringe radical who watches too much Fox News, or whatever? The pure arrogance of this administration, and the complete dismissal of Americans who have the right to an opinion, even if it differs from the administration, is what fuels my distrust. I hate that smug little smirk as he pats me on the head and lets me know that HE knows what's best for me. SO FED UP. |

I hate that smug little smirk as he pats me on the head and lets me know that HE knows what's best for me. Most of us are smart enough to know when "someone is patting our head and pissing on our shoes" "He" just does not understand that. |

Short term memory... We had Reagan and George Sr. piped in on the intercom more times than I can remember... What about NASA they are Big Tax wasters, Those evil bastards should stop broadcasting their take offs and missions in school.. In fact the pledge of Allegiance is kinda of creepy, I'd rather my kids pledge alliance to American and not some weird pagan flag ritual..

Well, thanks - finally. http://www.whitehouse.gov/MediaResources/PreparedS choolRemarks/ After reading the speech, my primary thought is, "Great. Why didn't you post this sooner?" instead of calling parents "silly", etc. |

Because they needed time to rewrite it. Still don't like it myself though. |

It had to be re-written for adult consumption. POTUS tells our spawn this country must be "more fair and more free." Well, since we are the most fair and free country already, he must be referring to it being "fair" for you to work so his base can have more "free" stuff. |

Enjoyed the speech and thought it was well spoken and given as purely a motivational talk to the kids. My daughter's teacher (first grade) was going to have they kids try and write five things they learned from the speech. The three first grade classes watched it together and 10 or so kids were able to give reference to specific points from the speech, such as "don't drop out", d"on't give up on yourself", "do your homework", it's okay to fail - just worker harder"... I was impresses with the kids since they got restless several times though the speech, but were obviously paying attention. For those who haven't read the speech, what stood out to me was the President's reference to people who failed many times but went on to great success including Michael Jordan being kicked off the school basket ball team (don't know much about MJ so it was an interesting statement). He also told the kids they didn't have an excuse to not do well in school, advising that even though things might be hard at home, the schools are there for them. On the whole I thought it was good stuff. The "I Pledge" video was not shown. |
