Hey Devdawg, you guys still using silly string over there to find trip wires? We could send some of that over too. |

"Tell me more about the flat rate boxes. We spent a fortune sending stuff to my son for Easter." If you go to the post office, they have two sizes of flat-rate boxes. They aren't huge, but you can cram a TON of stuff into them. APO addresses are treated like domestic addresses, so the rates are the same as just sending CONUS. Ever since my deployment, my mom has been sending a steady stream of packages overseas. Some local business donated postage for something like 50 boxes if my mom could get things to fill them. I wonder if any Badweb sponsors would be interested in doing the same. HD has a tradition of looking out for deployed military. If you're deployed, remember that if your bike is under warranty, time stands still while you are out of the country. I hope that helps about the postage. If you need more info, I will send it to you. Bill |

Wolf, This Teufel Hunden wears a large... As for items everyone can use... Small toiletries: -handy/baby wipes -hand sanitizer -sun screen -lip balm -foot powder personal items: -beef jerky is always welcome, as is just about anything small and edible. -reading material (magazines/paperbacks) That's just the consensus of the handful of Marines I asked in the past few min. I'm sure once we've been out here a while...anything from home...will be welcome. |

This thread brings back a lot of memories. You may think I'm nuts, but the one of the best meals I have ever had was a bag of cold MRE beans in Honduras. We did a few days in "bush" and didn't take enough food. Talk about staving after humping for a couple of days w/field radio on my back. I was ready to get back to my AAV. (DO NOT RAISE YOUR HAND) Them beans tasted SOOOO good. You just can't beat a Ham & Choke loaf on crackers sandwich! |

Panhead, Ya know....that would work extremely well in the immediate short term and has been used historically; however that would also piss off the entire Muslim world and instantly make this a war of religions. Considering Islam is the single largest religion on the planet and it's followers are obviously willing to take up arms on it’s behalf…we have enough bad guys to shoot at…but it is a good point and brought up often. Things are still moving forward…it seems the entire Alliance can’t wait to turn us loose. Lots of expectations. Devdawg, I have been watching this thread because I was worried that my post would be taken at face value, which was not my intention. It seems at first glance to be in obvious bad taste and insulting. I'm relieved to see that you caught my point. You are obviously well educated and intelligent. I thank you sir for your service and I wish you safety and victory in your endeavors. |

Just a note, never send chocolate and soap in the same package. When I was in Kuwait I remember munching on peanut M&M's that tasted distinctly of soap! Somehow the chocolate just soaks up the smell of the soap, don't ask me how. |

I need a list of names and addresses of soldiers. The local First National Bank has 300 boxes of Girl Scout cookies alotted for "oversea's assignment". They just wish to send them straight from their offices. They will start shipping on Monday so the sooner the better! |

We're finished reception and staging phases and moving to Operations...I'm sure you'll be hearing more on it before too long. I believe there three separate news agencies coming along. We took our first casualties a few days ago...our first convoy got hit by an IED. Although we lost two, the quick reaction of those on the ground and in the air saved the other two. Combat losses are expected and part of the job…but it never gets any easier. U4euh, I’m sure our Marines would love those cookies, but for obvious reasons I can’t send or post Alpha roster type info with out their knowledge. If the First National Bank is willing to address them to: Any Marine Attn: C.L. McLeod CE 24 MEU UNIT 73855 FPO AE 09510-3855 I will ensure they get handed out to our Marines.
