a little off topic but I'm going crazy... I'm assembling a stand and according it's sheet I need four M8x24 bolts. I must have 1000 bolts, none which are this size, I go to the hardware store and poke around no M8x24, plenty of x1 and x30 and x1.25 but no x24. I've looked at a couple of bolt web pages, no one mentions a M8x24 in their charts. Anyone know what this mystery size is and even better where would I find it? TIA |

I gotta agree with Woody on this. Metric bolts are designated by diameter and thread pitch ie. (10mm x 1.5) I'm aware of 8mm x 1.25 (fine), 8mm x 1.5 (med), and 8mm x 1.75 (coarse) But, 8 x 24 can only mean 8mm diameter x 24mm long, which is just about exactly an inch long. And just about 5/16" thick, so if it's not a threaded hole use a 5/16 x 1" Alternatively buy your M8x30 bolts thread a nut on first then cut 6mm off the end & tidy the ends up with a grinding wheel. or even use the 30mm bolts with an extra nut threaded on first. I have the opposite problem here, it's tough finding imperial/US spec fastenings sometimes. |

standard thread pitch on 8mm is 1.25mm. there are fine and coarse pitch variations (not used that much tho) 8 x 24 means 8mm diameter, and 24mm long (i hope) |
