Thinking about buying my wife a Dodge Nitro any body have one or know anything about them. | ||

Drove one today! It was a month old and had transmission issues already. Turned out to be a chafed wire shorting out & causing it to start in high gear rather than 1st gear. After it was fixed, I took it out for a beating... er.. I mean for a test drive. My impression was that it was seriously under powered. It accelerated like it was towing a 30 ft boat up a hill, but it wasn't. I'll pass. | ||

I almost bought one. Saintly has got it right,the standard V6 that is in it is a pooch. If your gonna buy one they are a great truck but buy the RT. Then ya got some power. | ||

Also I just bought a brand new 2006 Durango SLT. I needed the room that the Nitro doesn't have. Third row seating cargo being main concern. What a deal though being it was a left over. The truck went for almost 35. I got $8300.00 in accentives,plus $500.00 because the new car auto show is going on in the area and then I pulled out the.... Chrysler employee discount which I got from a friend and that was another $2500.00. So a total of $11,000.00 off the price no haggling. That dropped the truck down to $24,000.00 sum. I'll tell ya I was feeling really good but it gets better. The wife and I are sitting with the salesmen when the GM comes to see how we are getting treated.....really great thank you!!! all of sudden my wife says I know you to the GM. Comes out that he and his wife used to baby sit my wife as a child 27 years ago or more. He because of my wife through us the 7 year/70,000 mile warranty and check this out 3 years of free oil changes.....that just frosted the cake. Like the truck very very very very very much!!! | ||

I've always thought they look like an overgrown Tonka truck...similar to the over the top styling they used with the H2. The Dodge Hornet concept looks proper to me.  More sporty crossover and less kid toy. | ||

Uh, I'd hardly call the Nitro a truck. Believe me, I know what a real truck is. The Nitro is a stylized compact sport ute at best. I'd put it in the same class as the Jeep Patriot, all the style and none of the function. Even Dodge calls it a MIDSIZE SUV. Get a grip. | ||

I'd put it in the same class as the Jeep Patriot, all the style and none of the function. Even Dodge calls it a MIDSIZE SUV. Get a grip. The Nitro is on the same chassis as the Jeep Liberty, so it is in fact a truck chassis. The Dodge Caliber is on the Jeep Compass/Patriot chassis (a Patriot is just a stretched Compass). | ||

Get a grip... I'm not upset. But it is a truck and has the tow capacity of any of the jeeps with the same motor. You'd might be surprised. Not bad for its size. | ||

I'm with you Rick. I just finished driving home in 12 inches of snow in a Heep liberty (not mine) and there is nothing on it I would call truck like. On the other hand, I have no problem calling those huge SUVs trucks, like a Suburban or an Excursion. Those things are just too big to be called an SUV. Then again, I call my 1970 Ford Bronco a truck. I think my Bronco is one of the very few true SUVs ever made. I am a bit biased, though. | ||

The RT is the only way to get the decent motor. So in other words, you need to pay 28k for it. If that's the case, buy a full sized truck with a V-8. I was serious about buying one...until I looked at one in a showroom. The RT, in my opinion, is the only way I'd buy it, but again, at that price, I'd buy something else. | ||

There used to be an AD that said "Put a Dodge in Your Garage" and it showed a pretty topless lady laying in the grass. I think it was for a 76 Dodge Van. My old man used to have that poster/flyer hung up at work. Anyone got a line on that? I could just be losing my mind. But I'm pretty sure that's what it said. | ||

Rumrunner, I was real close to buying the Commander.I like the package but found that its not as roomy as it looks. Also took it out for a ride and 6 that comes in it is a dog. So if your going to buy the jeep get the 8. | ||

Seriously, I've always lived in the 'burbs and I've never heard people call their SUV's trucks. I too have lived in the Suburbs all my life, and a truck is a truck because of the chassis, not the body. Is a Peterbilt not really a "truck" since it has no bed? Any SUV on a truck (or truck-like) chassis has always been referred to as a "truck" by me, and most I know. The Grand Cherokee is a good vehicle. I'm really not an SUV type (oops, I said it). To me, you could buy almost any car with AWD and get something just about as capable as a new Jeep (save for the Wrangler). But if she likes it, she likes it. | ||

The Nitro is on the same chassis as the Jeep Liberty, so it is in fact a truck chassis. I don't think that is exactly correct. The new Nitro is not built on the same chassis as a current Jeep Liberty. Furthermore, the Liberty is unibody construction. Most trucks use body on frame. However, the 08 Liberty will be built on the Nitro platform. |
