Heh - bet it's the same reason the S1 came with that goofy looking rear fender with the plate mount on it (mine doesn't...) since I'm nuts and I ride whenever (melted snow on streets gets messy) you'd never guess I clean my bikes regularly (read - almost daily) .. and my brand new Buell Adventure jacket ... filthy .. What are ya gonna do ... form or function first ? |

you'd never guess I clean my bikes regularly (read - almost daily) ALMOST daily? ALMOST? Hey Brian, is my bike clean? Yes, Tatoodnscewd is absolutely *ANAL* about his bikes being clean He even called me up last week, all excited about how shiny he got the PM rims on his new(to him) S1. One reason why I'm not going to cut the tail off the CityX. You catch enough road grime with it on... |

That's why I had that carbon fiber insert. |

I would actually like to have a real rear fender over the wheel rather than that stub that is currently there. |

I'm with you Old_man, a nice full rear hugger ain't got to be ugly, and it would do a much better job. |

I'll raise the pot. How about a full rear hugger that snaps or clips onto the mini fender & swing arm. That way you can have your tire exposed in all it's glory on the nice days and clip the full fender on for the rainy days. (Message edited by metalstorm on March 01, 2007) |

Metalstorm, That is a great idea. I'd buy one in a minute. |

Even the hugger on the tubers doesn't do a good job, the dirt still flies ... the only reason the tubers get next to no dirt flung up on top (other than the S1) is because the tails are longer than the wheel ... take a look under the tail though ... diiirty Unfortunately the only thing that really works is a long tail,(or cheese grater), or a rear hugger that covers the entire wheel like the S1's ugly rear hugger .. I don't think there is a 'pretty' solution. I am curious to see if Pinball's nicely modified tail will actually keep the crap from flying up ... we'll have to ask him after he takes it out on wet streets ... |

I never seem to notice if the hugger on my M2 works or not, If the weather's good enough to ride & I've got the time, I'm not gonna waste it cleaning! function/form? I don't give a rats, just ride it! |

We purchased the rear fender for the Uly (only $17.00) and are modifying it to fit both the 12R and Scg. It's been alot of work but it's looking nice and will try to get pictures in when done. |

Even with the Damm grater on the back of my helmet gets wet on rainy days... I'm another vote for the clip on, and make the part that covers the shock up stay there when the hugger is removed... |

We need Rob (right side scoop) with the stellar plastic skills to try his hand at a quick on/off hugger |

take it off and see how bad it gets.. Mine came chopped after few months and a lot of riding in the rain that was enough for me get a uncut tail.. Painters blue tape works if you know your going to be riding in the rain or soon after.. Works good and comes off super easy.. |

My grater did absolutely NOTHING to keep the water & grime off of me and my bike in the rain. Wet is wet. Dirty is dirty. Even if the grater cut the spray by 75% (and it doesn't), who cares? So I get hit with 10 gallons of water instead of 40. Wet is wet. Chopped tails look better IMHO and provide just as much utility as unchopped. (unless you want to grate some cheese that is.) |

When it's crappy out, I ride the Blast to work. No rear wheel gak up my back! I still get caught in the rain on my Xb, decent raingear is a good thing to have. |

i'm workin' currently on a mold that uses the existing holes in the xb lightning frame. this mold will eventually be a fiberglass/carbonfiber rear hugger that will form fit the tire much like a jesse james chopper fender (follows the curve of the tire, etc...) and will go back far enough to prevent roostertail. daddy always said, if you're gonna be dumb, ya gotta be tough. i'm not going to pretend i'm real tough. so once this mold is done and i get a prototype, you guys will see pics. bullet |
