looked like target fixation. He could have made that turn if he would have just leaned more, like you said! |

isn't it amazing to see what one idiot can do to the motorcycling community with a stupid stunt like that? The highway in no place for riding like that, take it to a track! |

Yeah, it looked like he should've made it no problem. It also looked like he wasn't that great of a rider. I can't say too much, though...a few months ago on a 25mph surface street I overshot an intersection and almost ended up a hood ornament. I forgot that it was a wee bit less than a 90 degree angle. Ooops! It happens . |

Yeah, it's obvious he's a drive-up. I bet he felt a little queasy after that little stunt. He should have anyway. |

I think he pulled over and cleaned out his pants. |

Years back my dumb@$$ did near the same thing. I was in a group of 8 bikes. Mostly big HD, one 1200 sporty and my little 883 sporty. The group passed two tractor trailers I down shifted and gave it all the little 883 had. On coming traffic! So I put the bike on the far left side of the road. STUPID. |

It's not just that he didn't lean - he was reducing his speed as well and just that was enough to make him run wide. |

I think its President Bush's fault that he can't ride. I think we should all be made to take riding safety classes 3 times a year. Wear full gear all the time and all bikes should be equipped with ABS and airbags..................... YEAH!!!RIGHT!!! |

A cop buddy of mine went on a bike wreck call. A girl had just gotten her permit. The driver behind her said that she came into a curve and just kept upright. Went straight off the road and a tree limb took her head off. Another person I knew had a sportbike and he crashed it. I think he too got nervous and froze up without leaning and took the bike into a field. |

without any video leading up to this, all that can be assumed is that he panicked, survival instincts overruled and he reduced his speed & ran wide. ease up. we've all made mistakes, and obviously lived to pick on others... |

That turn didn't even look that sharp. That is definitely one lucky s.o.b. |

Check out the speedo...he is hitting 100+mph prior to the corner. Looks like he went in somewhere in the upper 60's. Then the speedo gets dark until the 3rd vehicle passes. He was still over 30mph at that time. As far as beening a "novice"....I'm not so sure. He was smart enough to get off the brakes in the gravel. |

Maybe he was scared of braking/leaning hard over those paint stripes? Those have taken me out once. |

Paint stripes? If he knew how to ride, he would have been dragging his knee over the white stripe and been no where near the yellow ones. |

He was distracted. He had a camera on board. He was trying to keep up with faster riders. Any time you're not riding your own ride, staying on your pace, bad things can happen. This guy was good enough not to panic, it could have been much uglier. I hope he watched to as close as we have, and has learned from it. |

I'm weird. I go into a curve thinking, gee, I could get seriously hurt in a curve for a variety of reasons. What am I going to do to avoid that? And then I do it. It's the power of positive pessimism. |

There's a good article about safer riding in Cycle World this month. This situation was one that was mentioned. |
