Pete, that means I've still got a good few years to go, yippee. Other side of the coin though, when I stop thinking about it I'll be dead! A man needs some fantasy to keep him going, no? |

Britney Spears is a dope...and she is laughing all the way to the bank. If that's all she needs out of life, I guess she's doing well. Anyone who puts money above happiness and balance is a moron. That's written in the Book Of Dan, look it up if you don't believe me. |

Will the hair salon lose or gain as a result? Gain !! Esther's Haircutting Studio, where Spears shaved her head, set up a Web site to auction off her hair and other items for a minimum price of $1 million, said J.T. Tognozzi, who owns the salon with his wife. "This is it, the opportunity of a lifetime," according to Buy Britneys Hair.com. The winning bidder gets Spears' dark, knotty hair extensions, the clipper she used to cut them off, the Red Bull she drank at the salon and her cigarette lighter. I read somewhere the salon refused to shave her head not because they were being responsible or cared, but for fear of being sued by those who make money off her image if they ruined her image, sad really !! |

A truly sad indictment of the modern society we (oops sorry, you) live in. A so called celebrity who will do just about anything to be noticed, & people in back of them who are prepared to stoop even lower to make a buck, but are too chickenshit to do the deed themselves. Yup it's sad alright. |

A man needs some fantasy to keep him going, no? Oh, man, at this age, fantasy is almost as good as the real thing; less work, cheaper, and not nearly as messy, either. |

I did have my hair curled once as a teenager--I gotta find that photo taken offshore Brazil-- but these days I routinely apply clippers to scalp. If I were in a situation similar to Ms. Spears, I'd be real tempted to walk around wearing a T-Shirt that said something like Gossip SUCKS! Don't be sucky. Get your own life & leave me the alone! |

Sorry CJ, doesn't happen here, people take no notice, nobody here would bother to bid on an auction like that, though they might set one up for suckers dumb enough to pay. The current president Jacques Chirac, (arguably one of France's best for a long time) gave an interview about his upcoming autobiography, in which he all but admits to having had affairs, albeit very discreetly. The British press went absolutely ape over it, it raised hardly a ripple here. So what, it's his private life & no-one else's business, is the attitude. |

I saw an interview with Bono from U2, he said he spends most of his time in France because the people are so into themselves they don't have time to mess with him, he can go unnoticed....lol. There ya go, having been to Paris once, I can say it was an excellent experience, and I found the people I came in contact with to be friendly and helpful, but very much uninterested in anything but themselves..a good thing actually. |

Kdan, One give's up one's right to free speech when one becomes an entertainer or public figure? I don't care who the subject/target might be, malicious gossip is vile and the preoccupation of small minds. Not saying I've never suffered from acute small mindedness. Grumpy, "So what, it's his private life " Because it speaks to one's integrity or lack thereof. Rainman, You nailed it bro. |

No Blake, one give's up one's right to privacy. You can say whatever the hell you want. Granted more people will be listening. And I think it's refreshing to go on here for three pages about Britney. While Blake's trying, it hasn't turned into a political thread and no one has threatened to ban anyone. That's what celebrities are good for. Diverting ones attention from the scary & mundane. |

I'm kind of of the same mind as Grumpy. If it makes them happy & it doesn't hurt anyone, so what? I'm not saying no one got hurt in the fore mentioned affairs (I don't know) but to my knowledge (and yes it's limited) it hasn't effected his ability to to the job he was chosen for. I'd rather have some one with a few skeletons in the closet who knows what he's doing rather than some one who's squeaky clean & clueless. Brittney can shave every hair off her body or go the other route & become a furry pop monkey for all I care. It had entertainment value for a short while but the moment has passed. She'll have to think of something else to do now. I'm sure the next Disney kid in line is right now at this moment being groomed for the spotlight. |

>>>>I'd rather have some one with a few skeletons in the closet who knows what he's doing rather than some one who's squeaky clean & clueless. Then you'd revel in the history of the titans of American Capitalism. I still think the best one, although Henry Ford comes close, is old man Hunt in Dallas when he had his wife and kids living 2 blocks from his mistress and kids in Highland Park. Back in the day's when America had it's first gay (they were called something else then) President folks pretty much tended to their own business. Times changed as the speed with which we move information did. |

Grumpy, "So what, it's his private life " Because it speaks to one's integrity or lack thereof. Blake, it is France where like in Italy affairs are much more accepted than they are here and have been for centuries. Different culture, different rules. That why th eBrits went nuts they don't tolerate affairs, the French and Italians do. |

Suppose there'd be a market for "WWJCD" (What would Jacque Chirac do?) bracelets? I mean while we are imposing our values on the rest of the world, let them wear our silly bracelets.

That must explain it. I'm only second generation American. My roots are in Italy & I think I've inherited their way of thinking. If the wife and mistress are both cool about it, who am I to judge? Though I'm guessing the whole "Brittney is an idiot" concept must be pretty common among all cultures. And not just because she shaved her head. That's just a symptom, not the cause. |

KDan, Are you saying that we have a right to privacy in public places? Dave et al, I assumed the typical wedding vows were in force. If so, breaking such a solemn vow certainly speaks to one's integrity or lack thereof. Sure, lots of people do it, have done it, will do it again. If that behavior is more common in some nations, then that is a reflection upon the state of moral decline of those nations, yes including America. I'm not meaning to judge. I'm merely pointing out that breaking a solemn vow is not something that should be so easily excused. If one doesn't intend to honor one's vows, then don't make them in the first place. Yes? This kind of behavior is becoming more and more prevalent because personal integrity and honor have significantly declined in our society. The "if it feels good do it" crowd have had a significant impact, mostly for the worse in my view, on our society. Now you got me all bloviating. |

Blake , my experience is that the French and the Italians have a different understanding of what those vows mean. You may think they are lacking integrity but I don't think the average person there thinks so. Behavior we would not tolerate is acceptable there and vice versa. The let children drink alcohol. They show nudity on TV when children are watching. Both of these activities would be considered very wrong here. |
