I just returned from seeing the new movie Ghost Rider. It was pretty good. Especially the 5 identical Buells Johnny Blade used in his stunts.

Peter Fonda as Mephistaphalis (not sure about that spelling) was a neat idea.

Check it out.

Just got back from it. It was better than I thought it'd be as a movie. Yea, it's a cheesy comic book movie, but I liked it better than your basic spiderman movie.

It was cool seeing all the Buell parts. I was able to pick out the Banke pedals, billet grips and a few other goodies that we provided on the Buells, and the speedo on the captain america chopper (the one that morphs into the ghostrider bike). Not very practical, but the underseat exhausts on the Buells look very cool. The CGI is very well done. The casting was pretty good too. Fonda as Mestophoclese, Sam Elliot (PERFECT) as the caretaker, Cage as Blaze (though I really think he used a body double in the mirror shot) were all great choices. Even the kid next door from American Beauty made a good (well, evil) Blackheart.

I can't wait for it to come out on Video so that I can freeze some of the shots. The person listed in the credits under Motorcycle technician (or some such thing), Darren Lovejoy, was my contact for the bike build.

Pretty cool to see it on the silver screen.

Al

Ditto Al's comment on cheesy comic movie. I liked seeing all the bikes and misc. bike parts in the garage. Once it looked like they were done with the Buells I left.

It was cool seein Buell up on the big screen again, I wish they'd keep the bike name up there somewhere. The bikes looked great, all that polished metal and flame paint! The undertail exhaust was odd on a Buell but didn't look out of place.

Were those real XR's or mock ups?

I had my choice between Breach and Ghost Rider. I'll admit I was never a fan of the comic like Spiderman, Batman, or Superman. Oh well, I kinda wish I'd checked out the other movie, at least it was the matinee...

The film's either on release now or about to come out here. I'm going to have to find a screening in English somewhere around these parts. Or wait for the DVD.

Johnny Blaze........ Peter Fonda was awesome in the movie. I like the two old flat track style Sporty's (04 models) that they rode in the carni. The Panhead was sweet too, similar to Fonda's Easyrider Pan. But, by far the Buells were the best. 2 thumbs up!!

I stayed and watched all the credits and there was not one mention of Buell or Al. Pretty disappointing.

We stayed too; I was kinda hoping there would be a mention, but I guess that's not the way Hollywood works. One of the billet pieces on the chopper has American Sport Bike machined into it, but alas, you can't see it...

Anyway, we enjoyed the movie, and it was fun being involved with it, in our own small way. Hopefully Al will be able to share some of the shots of the bikes during production later. Did you look around the shop and see all the Buells and parts lying around? Very cool - you don't often get to see that on the silver screen. Wish the Buell name was on it, but at least Nicolas Cage recognized that they were Buells. He was quoted as saying in response to the question "How is it riding the hell cycle?"

CAGE: I only rode the chopper, Grace. And also the stunt cycle. It's a Buell. They're both really terrific. The hell cycle, only the Ghost Rider rides that. That's the other thing. His bike transforms too, and turns into a demon hell cycle. But yeah, that's not much of a bike to really ride. You have to really know what you're doing on that."

Apparently, they nicknamed the daytime chopper Grace, and it transforms into the hell cycle at night. The special effects were really good; now I see why it took so long to release it.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the movie. It's a comic book adaptation, and if you go with that mindset, I think you'll enjoy it too. The bikes played a significant role in the movie (of course, that might be because that's what I was looking for ).

Just got back from the theatre myself.
The wife and I are killing time waiting for our (2nd) baby to arrive--he was due tuesday.

Anyway, I heartily concur--for what it is, it's a lot of fun. Engaging premise, excellent casting/performances, exciting action, eye-popping effects, good humor, lots of bikes, wicked-creepy thrills and chills, step right up boys and girls...Eva Mendes looked delicious but they could've shown more of her fine booty. Johnny's warehouse pad was AWESOME.
Yeah, I was proud to see all the Buell stuff and know Al and Joanne had a hand in that--WAY TO GO.

All in all, I found the cheese factor less than I expected until right at the very end but i guess they've got to follow the comic character as written.

I love his "drinking" the candies and his love of TV and the Carpenters! LOL

good clean fun.

oh, yeah, one more thing.

Sorry Al, but i seriously doubt that's a body double in the mirror.
Nicholas Cage cut his teeth on action roles and he's a fitness fanatic esp. when the role calls for it.

ok, now i feel like entertainment tonight.

must...wash...hands.

Danny, our son Zach really liked the candy drinks too.. I gave him some m&m's in a little glass after dinner tonight and his eyes lit up when I asked him if that reminded him of anything (knew immediately what I meant). I found the Carpenter songs particularly amusing (Reindog will too when he sees it). Wow, Nicolas Cage is looking pretty good if that's really him!

Pete - sure hope so too! Al really enjoyed working with Darren, but I'll let him talk about that part when he gets a chance...

Saw it yesterday. Convinced the wife it was a comic book movie cause she liked the Spiderman flicks. We both thought it was batter than expected. She's a western fan and thought the 2 Ghostriders going across the desert was awesome. Its her background now.
They got all the bikes right, and all the background bike parts! I'll own it! Great job Al!

Ooh Kdan, that's BITCHY,

I do speak & understand French pretty well, & if I'm going to see a French film I'd rather see it in French, but a film made in English should be watched in English.
There's nothing worse than watching actors you know with someone else's voice dubbed over, it spoils the whole experience.
That's one of the reasons for loving DVDs we can watch at home & keep everyone happy, with an English soundtrack & French subtitles.

The company that did the motorcycles is Texan Transport, their web site is here:
http://www.texantransport.com

Darren was the guy I worked with. They bought a bunch of stuff to build the first bike (start to finish in one week), then followed it up by building 5 more. Here are some pictures from their web site:

I suspect the 6th one in this row was the prototype, and the other 5 were the ones built afterwards:

From the looks of that rear exhaust header, I think the bikes may be running a tad lean.

After getting them a bunch of Buell parts, their supplier for the Captain America Chopper let them down on some stuff and they asked me to scare a couple items up (Speedo and kickstart conversion kit). So we had a little to do with those as well.

We provided these parts for the Buells:
Bank Brake and shift levers
Joker Pulley cover
Banke Pulley skin
Works shocks
NRHS Billet motor mount
Billet grips
CRG levers
Crossroads air Cleaner
Storz foot pegs
American Sport Bike clutch cable clamp
Chrome rear pulley cover
Swing arm isolator stiffeners (to help with not ripping the underseat exhaust to pieces in the first 30 seconds)

We had nothing to do with the exhaust fabrication, supposedly Supertrapp had something to do with that. It looks badass, but isn't very practical. We didn't supply the non-functional nitrous bottles or handlebar risers. We had nothing to do with the actual bike build other than some consulting time on it.

Al,

What kind of tires are those on the X-1's? Looks like just the thing for the Uly riders looking for more aggressive off-road tires.

Hughlysses - they're anakees: you can just make it out on the rear tire in the 3rd photo down.

the lisings I can find only go to a 150 rear though, and no 17" fronts that I can see

Mr. Grumpy - Just playing. I also hate overdubbed movies. Speaking pretty good french and moderate Italian, I prefer the foreign movies in their original guise.
