You can believe it or not. Buell is working a 250cc powerplant. Not sure when its coming out, but I would guess soon. Not sure if it is for the "dirt bikes" or a rider's edge replacement or both. Not sure if the prototype will even be mass produced. Lets just say you heard it hear first. Laugh all you want. When the 250cc engine comes out, you will remember where you heard it first. |

I ain't gonna say they won't, but I can't see them being competitive with a 250cc anything. A 4 stroke 250 won't have the power a Blast already has, and a 2 stroke isn't EPA friendly. Is that really all the information you have? Without naming names how do you know this? |

Yes they did, I guess a 250 isn't out of the question. In my mind I was thinking of competition, as in 450cc... |

If it is a 4 stroke to be competetive with Big 4 dirtbikes you can bet it will have gobs of power and be so much lighter than the Blast motor. Makes sense if they are really going to do "dirt" as the 4 stroke 250's runs in the 125 class and the 450's run in 250 class. And in case you don't watch any motocross those 450 4 strokes are kicking some butt. I am more interested in when we will see the replacement for the 9R-- seems there might be a 1000cc motor hiding in the wings somewhere---- |

Glitch, direct injection two strokes can be quite environmentally friendly. |

I dont know if this will be the only new powerplant we will see soon. From what I know now, I would say a 250cc will be in there some where. When I first "learned" bout this 250 idea, I said no way! But now after a new bit of info, the "Dirt bike" announcement, and realizing that buell's commitment to riders edge ends soon. I thought if it not a "streetfighter" maybe one of a "complete line of dirt bikes" or maybe it's just an Riders Edge bike? |

This just hit me. Maybe the 250cc will not be put in a dirt bike? Here is a fun little 125 that will give a XB a run for its money on a twisty road.

Those Aprilia 2 strokes are surprisingly stout. The 250 cc motors make 50+ horsepower at the wheel. |

Um hey cool idea. Mr. Buell could you please put a four stroke 250 in a 125GP two smoke chassis and a 450 four stroke in a 250GP two smoke chassis, ultra lite, ultra fun. Sell un cheep for the track day bum? |

don't forget 250 four strokes run in the 125 two stroke class, if they said full line of motocross bikes i would expect both a 250 and 450 four stroke |

AS in Past? I hope that the motor mafia at Buell can get a fire breathing street motor about 1 liter built, |

Yup I agree with you Olddog. Who knows if a Rotax is put in a dirt version that means a bigger version could be put in a street version, right? |

holding my breath for the new dirty offerings. I have a sneaky feeling the 450 will be tall. Damn short inseam, demoing the KTMs next week, I figure that is Buells direct competition, so they will be similar in wt and size to the 450sm |

You lot need to put your "seeing into the future" talents on the geegee's then you'll be able to buy all the bikes you want. Or not! |

I think their direct competition, or at least their biggest competition will be Honda. Of course there are the other Japanese Manufactures as well, but the Honda has what I believe Buell will have, the best suspension straight out of the box. I don't think the XB would have the success it has seen without the exceptional suspension it has. |

suspension is nice, suspension travel is even better. I have a nice fist sized punch in the bottom of my Race Can from a rock, stump, something or other that I hit while getting aggressive in the dirt with my CityX. Riding the bendy and dirty on it until the new Buell Dirtbike is in my garage |

Cityxslicker; get a Uly. Then you'll have the suspension travel you want along with a muffler/bash plate that'e almost as impenetrable as a Sherman tank. |

caaaant ride the ULY, inseam too short, I am not able to comfortable get on and off that thing in a questionable terrain setting, much less load it with bags, gas, or a passenger. The tips of my toes dont even touch. I am running the CityX with the Scg seat on it. I AM Short! Flippin Teutonic Grain fed giants over 6ft can ride the Uly, I cant. And trust me I have over 20 hrs on it, proving it to myself. That damn bike is too tall. That being said, it is still my favorite in the line up right behind my CityX |

The KTM 250SX (4 stroke) that I race makes 38 horsepower off the dealers floor. that is where the knobbies touch the dirt. I think it runs a bit harder than a stock Blast, although it is geared slightly lower, tops out around 78 MPH in 6th gear. (My point here is that it is quite possible to make a 4 valve OHC liquid cooled short stroke single that will have significantly higher power to weight ratio than a Blast) (Message edited by Fullpower on February 23, 2007) |

This is going to be a very difficult market for Buell to break into. The dirt bike line will have to be EXCEPTIONAL to even get noticed let alone be commercially successful. And I still can't even imagine HD dealerships selling dirt bikes successfully. I REALLY want Buell to be successful in this endeavor, but it seems unlikely to me. I hope I am wrong but I have owned ridden and raced more motorcycles than I can remember over the last 46 years and this just feels like a bad idea. |

You put two wheels on it, and put it on our showroom floor, I will sell it Its easy to sell the bikes and rides that you enjoy and are crazy about. The excitement is contagious. Already saving my coffee money so I can get one in my own garage. |
