Jon, I've ridden those canyon roads in Colorado, and as great as they are you need to come ride over here.

It's not so much about the location or view, it's about the road. Scarborough's Olivers Mount is a closed road race track in Yorkshire. Barry Sheene rated it as his favourite track.

The Irish road races are played out on roads not dissimilar from many roads in every county of the UK.

The electronic concentration camp is not in any major way amongst our more rural roads. There's little chance of tax revenue gained by placing such gadgets in those types of locations given the lesser amount of traffic using these roads.

I see it as a crowded, unpleasant and extremely restrictive driving environment, far more so than anywhere in the U.S.

1 It is.

2 It is.

For about 90% of the time anyhow.

I hear ya Rocket, but you're not making sense
With these examples I haven't even gotten out of North Georgia.
You really need to come over and play with us. You need to experience our crooked roads for yourself. My offer for your lodging while here still stands.

We've got some crowded roads for sure, especially down here in the South East, but no worse than a jammed 6 lane LA freeway.
The cameras are a pain, but there are plenty of signs and they are painted bright yellow just in case you missed them. Most authorities even post on the internet where the mobile speed checks are going to be!
Rocket is right, there are a lot less traffic police these days, they are leaving it to the robots.

I'd be tempted to ride with one of those tags with the hinge, so you could lift it out of the way while I ride past the camera. Right now there's legislation here in Georgia to outlaw the cameras.

Actually, Rocket is very fortunate where he lives for access to some lovely country side.

Same where I live in Cheshire, except that the good biker roads are in Derbyshire and North Wales. Both are areas that have excellent roads. But also the roads are known death traps for inexperienced riders on "too powerful" bikes. Helicopter surveillance is used in Derbyshire and North Wales along with very many unmarked police patrol cars at the weekends as well as speed traps. Exceeding the speed limits on well known "biker roads" is a very fast way to lose your licence in these areas.

Seriously,

I'm sure the roads in England are really great.

Rocket, if what you said is true up there, then that's a good a case as any NOT to personalize your bike. Leave it EXACTLY as you got it from the dealer, and wear generic riding clothes...

It's not about actually going 150 or better, it's being able to brag to your croanies that you can go 150+.

This is a complete thread hijack.. but in this Country (UK) our civil liberties are slowly being eroded.
Basic stuff, for example, the right to remain silent and the right not to incriminate yourself no longer apply to traffic offences caught on a speed camera.

Fun read.
Usually these things morph into idiocy; this one has actually gotten better.

If nothing else, it's rightfully discredited the "Star" system.

(The edit window just informed me that "" is a no-no; and here I thought that the "stars" were infantile.)

http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/07/passport-9500i- packs-gps-into-a-radar-detector-for-double-the-fu/

...Along with the traditional radar detector functionality of giving you a bleep or three when you need to slow down, the 9500i carries a GPS payload that allows for all sorts of exciting possibilities. First off, you can let the detector know about false alarm spots...The detector also lets you mark common speed trap locations so that the 9500i can remind you when they're coming up...

Some of us Yanks (me for one) have a strong affinity for Britain and the British people, and believe me when I say that I cringe daily as I watch those freedoms erode.

But that is another topic in itself. Where were we... oh yeah, hyperbikes.

Oh, right, just what I need---a Buell motorbike that has so much power that it'll break the rear tire loose at any time if I get a bit too frisky with the right hand, like while still banked over in mid corner. Ha! Hospital food is much better these days, but no thank you...

Read a bit in cycle World this month about the European Cannonball Run. Nuts. Fun read. That fellow used a laser parking aid. I device that transmits a laser beam so you don't hit stuff when backing up. One supposed side effect is that it messes up laser speed guns and cameras but since it is sold as a parking aid...

It was an interesting read, but I wish it was fictional. The whole time I felt kind of slimey, like I love the story and I love the adventure... but thinking that these people are going to kill themselves, and I don't want to be in any way complicit.

150 mph isn't fast.

There's damn few things more fun than an all out arm wrenching scare the shit out of you acceleration rush.

You just don't know.

Going down the salt at 200+ the red half mile markers start comming at you like tracers.

It's fast in town and on the highway, but certainly not on the salt.

See any Harley or Buell drag bikes at the salt?

Jon,

Did you forget you were having a beer with Tim Horton and Blake, Slaughter, Erik, Terry, Fireman Jim and I at Laguna Seca?

Paul was there too, but camped out with LA Busa crowd on Fox Hill.

Jim

This is a picture of Timbo that I took in 2005 in front of the corkscrew, from the Love Shack campground.

Did you notice in the FIM records that I was able to set the fastest sit on bike record?

A little 'ol 1K blown Gixer whooped a 1650 blown Busa. Its not always about dispacement.

I've been pitting with Aaron for several years. He, and the rest of the NRHS team have been a critical part of my efforts.

This year, JB is building a custom fairing for me. JB is the one who did the body work on Aarons bike in the pic above.

This year we're really going to go fast.

Snail,

You deserve recognistion and praise for your accomplishments. I figured everybody knew about your Captain Marmalade Sweet Ride.

You're like a MIssion Impossible Fisherman. One minute you're crushing a Dungeness crab's ectoskeleton and scooping his guts out, and the next...modifying a bike and riding it into the record books at Bonneville.

You really are a salty dog!

Tom Cruise, my eye!!
