Two recommendations for winter riding - Olympia gloves and an chin air-dam ( if you have a Scorpion helmet) I took a 30 mile ride to a non-HD/Buell Cycle shop today, more for the ride than the destination. It was also partially to "road test" my new Scorpion EXO 400 helmet and a new riding glove configuration - a relatively thin but "windproof" set of gloves underneath a very heavy pair of leather gauntlet-style motorcycle gloves. The weather was clear, sunny, and about 30 degrees. Even with my grip warmers my fingers froze and I got a wicked blast of ice cold air across my forehead. I had a Scorpion helmet before and didn't remember that issue so I was ready to send it back as defective. Just before my brain froze I remembered I had installed the chin air dam in the old Scorpion - but I didn't think it would make that much of a difference. As luck would have it, the shop sold Scorpions and I was able to pick up the air dam for $10. They also sell Olympia winter gloves. I hadn't wanted to spend the nearly $100 for the gloves before but I have heard good things about them here on the BadWeb so I figured WTF - why not? It was a totally different ride home. No more brain freeze and the gloves and the grip warmers did the trick! If these are two areas that hinder your cold weather riding, you may want to check these out. Gonna check out the Bike Show in Timonium, MD tomorrow. Anyone else going? |

Went to the show today (Fri) to avoid the crowd. Not much in the way of Buell except the TT...with yellow tank and 07 numbers on the plates. All Buell/HD bikes are from Balt HD. One 3-time HD drags champ with his S2? drag bike on display. Pretty cool. Otherwise, lot of the same stuff. Ron Finch has his wild bikes and art on display. Some nice non-HD-Vtwin chopper/customs scattered around. (not refering to all the Hyabusas with airbrushing) Check out the Speed Triple powered custom in the south hall. Also there was a 1098 under cover in the Duc booth. |

I'll probably go for a ride today but not to Timonium. I'll have to check out those gloves, maybe I'll cruise on over to Rockville HD and see what they've got. |

I got the Olympia gloves at Heysers near Laurel. We did the show - man they had a demo of the Gerberling (?spelling) heated gloves. Wow. Pricey but nice. I passed but I did take a chance with a battery pack fed pair made by Empire Gloves (they do a lot of military stuff). We got a good deal at $89. The owner himself was there. He said they don't advertize but just asked that if I liked them, to tell someone else. Empire gloves site is empireglovemfg.com He even threw in a free heated headband with built in speakers for an MP3 player for my daughter who was with us. I'm thinking the NY Air National Guard Tee Shirt I was wearing didn't hurt. I'll do a road test on those gloves tomorrow. Since the whole family went we took the cage, but I did notice two Ulys (1 orange, 1 fast (black) parked near the front door. The "fashion show" was nice too if you like beautiful young ladies in thongs and leather chaps. |

The 2 Ulys were parked there on Fri too. And a black Lightning. There was also a good looking Duc Cafe replica outside. Well, it was like 25deg out and windy....and the score is 3 Buells, 1 HD, 1 Duc, and 1 Rice-aha in a truck. Gee, who are the real bikers?! (Sorry, I don't know the model name of the Duc, but I think those are cool.) |
