From the "Buell and HD in the News" board:

More from Josh at Cycle-Connection:

They said they will have a full range of dirt motorcylces in within two years. They also are entering dirt track racing.

At the same meeting, they mentioned that they will be making hypersports. Normally a hypersport bike is referred to as the 200+ mph capable bikes like the Busa and ZX14.

Whoa. Hypersport motorcycles too?

Can anyone elaborate on this?

...and Exhale! Thanks Daves. Although I must admit, I stopped holding my breath over new Buell releases some time ago.

Liars, they are not.
There were no details given
No time frame

I was there and was listening very closely.

We will all know, when it is time to know.

IMHO, "Hypersport" doest seem like Eric style, but I would love to see a Buell "Hypersport"

Im sick of people talking Busa crap, and that ZX14 is the UGLIEST production sportbike ever!

I was at the meeting with Daves and while Erik was giving his presentation he hinted at a collaboration with Boss Hoss.

I think Buell's Hypersport bike is going to be powered by a 725hp ZZ-572 big block Chevy crate engine. Best part is it's going to be water-cooled!

Wouldn't a hypersport bike be about opposite of everything else Buell makes? They focus on compact, great handling, fun machines. Hypersports generally are just fast as hell in a straight line.

I would think they'll make a happy medium way before they make a hypersport.

The Buell lineup:

Firebolt, Lightning, Ulysses, TT, CityX, Blast and announcing the NEW Happy Medium.

Has a nice ring to it.

I would hope any "hypersport" is aimed at Ducati, Aprilia or KTM rather than the Busa or ZX14.

The Busa and ZX14 always seemed more in the size, weight ballpark of a V-Rod than a sport-bike to me.

I have a friend that's fascinated with the Busa. Personally I've never cared for 'em they're freaking huge and slammed to the ground. So is the ZX14
To me a bike should be slim and agile. Even my S2 which is big for a Buell, is svelte in comparison.
I agree with Elvis, if Buell was to make a superbike it should be more of a Aprilia/Ducati killer.

I have to agree with Elvis. I really doubt that Buell will be making something like the busa or the ZX14. I think that a hypermotard would be more Buellish. In any case, I really hope that this isn't the direction that they are heading. I want to see a Buell superbike.

Would it be that hard to fit a V-rod into a sport bike type frame? Seems like you've got the pieces right there to do it. Granted the busa and ZX are putting somewhere in the range of 160hp to the ground but with a little work I'm pretty sure a V-rod could get real close to that. Wasn't everyone asking for this last year, or is that "so last year"?

Buells tree is getting bigger but people don't like the fruit-which many were asking for, that they are given...

I am perfectly happy with my choice of Buell offerings. I hope they spend more time on innovative engineering than merely slamming a big water cooled engine in a bike.

CRAP! I forgot to click the 'Anonymous' button for that post!

Firebolt, Lightning, Ulysses, TT, CityX, Blast and announcing the NEW Happy Medium.

I thought the XB bikes already were a happy medium between a Yamaha R1 and a Massey Furgeson tractor.

Well I dunno. I wish Erik and his Elves all the luck in the world with the dirt bike lineup.

Alas, dirt bikes just aren't where it's at for me anymore. When I was a teenager, yes. But not now.

With the impending death of the XB9R, the Buell Sportbike lineup is starting to go the opposite direction from what I had hoped.

The XB9 and 12 "S" line are some nice bikes, but for me the Firebolt is where it's at. Thats the bike that really pushed me over the top with regard to Buell.

With only the XB12R left in that respect, I really have no where else to go with Buell. I had planned on boring out my 9R to a 1208 and make it into a track bike at some point, thus effectively making it a XB12R anyway. That point was when Buell came out with another sport bike that I could step up to. Unfortunatly, Buell seems to be moving in the OPPOSITE direction.

I love Buell, I love my Firebolt, and the friends and good times I have had as a result of owning my XB9R are worth alot to me.

I've been eyeing the Triumph Daytona 675 for some time now, and now it's starting to look really, REALLY good.

I feel almost ashamed of myself for saying that.

*hangs head in shame*

OK, My question is:

At the dealer meeting, was Andy there?

Will he be "There" next year?

(I don't care to "Kill" a Duck, I'll just leave it to the Big Kid, he's the duck killer in the family)

I'd like to see them take 2 Thunderstorm motors a smash them together to make one big v-4 2406cc with 206 hp at the crank, kinda like that Cheez-it commercial. It would have exhaust pipes on both sides of the bike so you would stay "warm" in the winter and every bike would come with a last will and testament. Then the next Buell promo would be free rear tires for a year (limit 10). And last but not least I would make a movie with Ewan McGregor called the Fast-way-round (Charley Boorman could run the camera)

Make a Buell a Busa beater?? Its already been done, that big long bike HATES the twisties at low speeds, and forget about the chugging in hairpins along the 112 up in Wa by the strait. Every time I lead a group ride up there, I get a BUSA in on trade. OH and the bid buy on them hurts.

The Firebolt brought me into the family, and onto [extensibly] a Harley product a good 10-15 years sooner than I had figured on.

I too wish to see more done with it.

>>>The Daytona 675 is (from all accounts) a wonderful bike.

That's an accurate statement. The Daytona is a top-shelf motorbike. I'd apologize to no one for digging it.

By the way. . . the "scuttlebutt" has been "inter-morphed". . I'd caution not reading too much hyperbole into veiled inferences lest we all be retrocused of "too much enthusiasm".

: )

I was wondering about this topic while sitting in the good ol' Atlanta traffic this morning.
I've always thought Erik was an engineer that was exceptional at doing the best he can with what he's got to work with, in the XB's case a Sportster engine. What would he come up with if he was given the V-Rod engine? Hyperbike? After owning a Sportster I never would have thought someone could have done what he did with regards to the XB. I'd be willing to bet, he could engineer a bike around the V-Rod just as wondrous as the XB, only bigger, much bigger.
