This year, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union address occur on the same day. As Air America Radio pointed out: "It is an ironic juxtaposition of events: One involves a meaningless ritual in which we look to a creature of little intelligence for prognostication while the other involves a groundhog." Gee, you and Castro must be the only two still listening to Air America. For all it's early hype, I bet there are more people in America listening to shortwave broadcasts then Air America. |

Nothing sinister in my post, just a good chuckle. Air America Radio presents a different spin on things by dispensing views that are both progressive and liberal. It is interesting that you can get more than one side of the story from thee same media source, ain't it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_America_Radio Here is another recently encountered chuckle that I enjoyed, a lot of military and former military folks will recognize the tone and style: The following directive was issued by the commander of all Naval forces in the Middle East, it looks like it might have been directed more at the Marines. U.S. Navy Directive 16134 To: All Commands Subject: Inappropriate T-Shirts Ref: ComMidEastFor Inst 16134//24 K All commanders promulgate upon receipt. The following T-shirts are no longer to be worn on or off base by any military or civilian personnel serving in the Middle East: "Eat Pork Or Die" [both English and Arabic versions] "Shrine Busters" [Various. Show burning minarets or bomb/artillery shells impacting Islamic shrines. Some with unit logos.] "Napalm, Sticks Like Crazy" [Both English and Arabic versions] "Goat - it isn't just for breakfast any more." [Both English and Arabic versions] "The road to Paradise begins with me." [Mostly Arabic versions but some in English. Some show sniper scope cross-hairs] "Guns don't kill people. I kill people." [Both Arabic and English versions] "Pork. The other white meat." [Arabic version] "Infidel" [English, Arabic and other coalition force languages.] The above T-shirts are to be removed from Post Exchanges upon receipt of this directive. In addition, the following signs are to be removed upon receipt of this message: "Islamic Religious Services Will Be Held at the Firing Range At 0800 Daily." "Do we really need 'smart bombs' to drop on these dumb bastards?" All commands are instructed to implement sensitivity training upon receipt. Jack |

Kind of funny to watch adults take their private hand shakes and turns with formal introductions so seriously. But that formality is what allows the correct pecking order for who gets hot air blown up their a$$, and who blows it up there! |

He did good and was almost flub free. Didn't Canada bomb the Baldwin Brothers and start a war? http://www.moviesounds.com/sp/joinarmy.wav http://www.moviesounds.com/sp/adams.wav |

None of us can imagine what the President has in his head in these days. I trust President Bush based on his career and cabinet. I did not vote for him based on his intellectual speaking style like gore or kery. I basically voted on him because I knew he had the most testosterone and had good connections and solid plan for America. Another reason was I knew it would anger hippies and such the like if he was elected. Mike Tyson made an ass out of himself when he talked but he was a warrior. We need warriors right now not seal saving lesbians who drive hybrids. |

I trust President Bush based on his career and cabinet. What career? What cabinet? What are you talking about? Here on BadWeb I've seen George W Bush compared to Reagan, Lincoln and now Mike Tyson. The accolades seem limitless. George W Bush, a warrior! That's absolutely hilarious! |

George W Bush, a warrior! That's absolutely hilarious! To some it seems far fetched. If you realize the times we are in and consider the alternatives we had its not funny at all. The man with the lisp like a woman who invented the internet and the man who hasnt done anything worthwhile in his whole political career could be calling the shots right now. Opinion polls be damned give me someone with balls. |

Please, please, please give me someone I can vote for. Now that Daves isn't working with Buell anymore, do you suppose he'd give up his business and run for office? I don't know his politics but he's honest and delivers. |

Bush does OK these days (after all of the tutoring) as long as he is reading...don't turn him loose with his own tongue though. It ain't purdy. I've never met the President but I've been told by two people who have he is very affable and not tongue tied in person. Say what you will about his policies, I've always thought the "idiot" label was unfair. Locally, we have a newspaper columnist who writes beautifully but when he is on talk radio he stutters and struggles to convey his thoughts and he is by no means stupid. |

I feel let down by "trickle down economics",but am still a staunch supporter of GW.Haven't seen anyone else i'd trust with the job...Just my ignorant machinist laborer's two cents. I'll vote for McCain in '08.He seems the only one committed to finishing the fight. All the Dems wanna run home with their tails between their legs. It's about keeping a stable source of oil.The radicals will disrupt that. And a disruption will end our way of life. |

Frank, If discussing politics is why you are here, I strongly suggest you find another discussion board more appropriate to that subject. This is a Buell motorcycle enthusiasts' discussion board. The "Dealing with jihad" thread, as requested repeatedly and then ignored repeatedly, is for posting news related to the war and to support our military and others overseas who are putting themselves on the line for us. Unless you and others can honor that simple request, the thread will remain closed. |

When I said, "That's why I'm here", I meant this particular thread. I've participated in other motorcycle only discussions on this website and probably much to your chagrin I even own a Buell. So, you see, not everyone who rides an American motorcycle needs to submit themselves to your way of thinking. My, my, who's the angry one? |

If you want to find out how smart and how strong you really are, put together a team of people and win a United States presidential election. Its funny to make stupid jabs at the president for his speaking skills but if you think he's stupid you need to find out what it takes to become the president. As much as hillary clinton makes me sick to my stomach there is no question she is one tough cookie. Politics is a tough business. |

Johnny - The reason for George W. Bushs' presidency was the twinkle in his fathers' eye. Which, said to say, is the reason for this war. |

Thats an interesting thought frank. Its a very simple fairy tale idea much like the one that makes movie stars foreign policy experts. If only the world were that simple? we could send streisand to lebanon for peace talks with hezbolah. Maybe it should be done regardless?

"So, you see, not everyone who rides an American motorcycle needs to submit themselves to your way of thinking." You are confused. No one, no matter who they are or what they ride or whether they ride or not or participate on BadWeB or not, need submit to my way of thinking. We simply ask participants here to honor the terms of use to which they agreed when registering on BadWeB. If you want to criticize me personally, that's fine too, but please start another topic--actually one already exists somewhere in the archives--on that subject. All of us should try to remember that if we cannot rationally debate the issues themselves we should avoid posting. Too many comments in threads like this end up being ad-hominem instead of about the topical issue(s). Posting that kind of content is a violation of board policy. That kind of divisive miserableness leads to serious problems and a severe degradation of the decorum in this online community of Buell enthusiasts. We'd really like to avoid that. Thank you and everyone for helping us in that effort. |

2 things I found interesting in the State of the Union speech. ( I read the script, while I watched a re-run of Eureka, watching the power games played during the speech irritate me, & I can read it in a fraction of the time. ) Both, I admit, were pointed out by a radio/tv talking head. 1 Congress was asked to double the size of the Strategic petroleum reserve. This reserve was used by previous admin's, to smooth out short term hikes in gas prices, for short term political kudo's, and was drawn down & cut back a lot during the 90's. It's been getting filled back up since late 2001. 2 Iran was mentioned as being responsible for killing Americans. Leading me to believe a new front may open in the war. Also Saudi Arabia is working to lower oil prices, a move that looks to be to screw both Iran & Russia, who play power games with oil. So? I dunno. Also... Most State of the Union (Sotu) speeches are full of "we must fix X" with X being education, Social security, etc. Seldom is anything done. Our govt. is made of many committees, which slows change. ( thank goodness, sometimes, for that. ) The last Sotu promise that was kept, was made by William Jefferson Clinton in 1999. He called for Saddam to be kicked out to prevent him from aiding terrorism & making WMD's. This took some few years & a different administration, but did happen. You go Bill. |
